Great place to stay, location was ideal for the City park and the Tram in the the French Quarter etc. The owner was great very helpful and friendly. Good breakfast every morning. Room was lovely, clean and spacious.
We came down for 5 days for museum and outdoor activities. The house is in a great location near city park and only 100 yards from the streetcar to downtown and the French Quarter. The house is a lovely historic home furnished with antiques, yet has modern bathrooms with great showers, which you don't always get in a B&B. Innkeeper was friendly and helpful with things like streetcar maps and local info. Breakfast was great the one morning we had it. We are hikers and birders and prefer to get up and out early, so the 9:00 breakfast time did not work for us. They did let us put our own food in the fridge so we could eat early and get out. The room was not serviced or cleaned during our 5 day stay (including rubbish cans not emptied), which didn't bother us but might be a problem for some. Overall we were happy with the stay and the place, but if you want daily service or flexibility in breakfast time, might choose another place.…

My boyfriend and I recently visited New Orleans for the Voodoo Fest in October. We originally were supposed to stay at the HI. But due to the Hard Rock Cafe collapsing our reservation got cancelled two days before going to New Orleans. My boyfriend were on a mission to find another place to stay and quickly! We searched and we searched, until my boyfriend came across the Oakview Bed and Breakfast. The location was perfect, with just a short walk we were at the entrance of City Park. We also love bed and breakfasts. We are so glad that we came across this bed and breakfast because it was one of the best times we have had. Russel’s hospitality was off the charts! He was so friendly, helpful and kind to everyone that was staying there. Oh... and did I mention what a great cook he is! The breakfasts we had were so wonderfully presented and delicious. I keep on thinking about his amazing biscuits he made!! Thank you Russel for being a wonderful host. I highly recommended this place if you decide to visit New Orleans. You will not be disappointed only blessed to be there. Enjoy your stay! …
Loved the quirky uniqueness of Oakview after the blandness of hotels. Our host, Russell, has been most accommodating. Breakfast has been fabulous home cooking. Set us up well for a day of sightseeing. The trolley bus to downtown is just over the road and runs frequently. The park area opposite gives a quiet calm contrast to the wonderful sounds and sights of downtown. Would certainly stay again if returning to NOLA. The free parking is a bonus!
This review has been a long time coming, and my deepest apologies to Russel, who runs this wonderful establishment. My wife and I stayed in the Magnolia room for the first weekend of JazzFest 2019. Russel bent over backwards to make sure we were taken care of and happy with our accommodations. He was willing to stay up until we arrived (we had really bad traffic) even if it was 1 am. We got there early and h was only too happy to move his car and have us park in the drive way. The house is charming and full of character, the furniture is beautiful and well cared for, and it is all very comfortable and welcoming. Russell serves breakfast and it is truly fantastic! His biscuits are the best we've had anywhere, and that includes our mothers and grandmothers. And he keeps plenty of alcohol and drinks available. The location was wonderful, there were several good restaurants in walking distance, and the park close by. JazzFest was in walking distance, and only a few miles to the quarter. We cannot wait to stay at Oakview again, as we had a great time and there was very little for us to worry about. This was the best experience we have had at a bed and breakfast. Tomaso and Valerie Pye…
We visited intending to be for 3 nights but unfortunately had to leave after 1 due to our timescales for travelling. Having visited before, we kind of knew what to expect. We liked being able to stay somewhere other than a big chain hotel as this b&b is a real taste of a New Orleans home. There’s always parking available and it’s facing the City Park which is great and has loads to see and do. The house is beautiful. The owner was accommodating like last time and the room was well presented. It has been a couple of years since we last stayed here and we understand it can be hard to keep on top of renovating and repairing a big old house alone as I believe Russell mostly does. There was a strange smell in the entrance hall and our bedroom which may be an issue with the air con and may need looking at, although we didn’t find it necessary to complain about. It’s a lovely house, just in need of some tlc. Russell offers a full cooked breakfast but as we struggle to eat much in the mornings, we asked to only have his homemade biscuits which are amazing. …
My husband stayed here during graduation weekend. Breakfast starts at 9 am, so if you have timed tours or events you should plan with breakfast time in mind. The room was spacious and clean. There were lots of shampoos and soaps and things in case travelers forgot them. The bathroom had a nice whirlpool tub, which was a nice touch. There is off-street parking as there is a driveway, but street parking is plentiful around the park area as well. Russel was very friendly and helpful. The bed and breakfast was a very “New Orleans” experience. The location inside the city is great. It’s right next to City Park and the Canal streetcar line is practically within site of the bed and breakfast.
We really enjoyed our time at Oakview! Russell was super accommodating and a great host! Everything was clean and breakfast was great! Unique experience just a few steps away from the trolley that takes you right into the French Quarter. And City Park is beautiful just across the street!
The location was perfect for us and our friends who came for French Quarter Fest. Being across from City Park provided calm walks with the huge oak trees that are so beautiful. The trolley is just a block away and took us to the French Quarter with ease. We had breakfast (even a to-go breakfast the morning we went back to the airport) made by Russell and his wife. Absolutely amazing food that made our days start off right. Free booze didn’t hurt either :)
