Inn at the Old Jail is an award-collecting modern guesthouse built into a national historic landmark in Tremé, New Orleans. The city’s most elegant Queen Anne Victorian was originally home to an NOPD police jail & patrol station, then a library and community center, then abandoned ruins of Hurricane Katrina. Originally completed in 1902 as an overnight lockup for neighborhood offenders and juvenile delinquents, our jailhouse has been impeccably restored into a boutique guesthouse with nine unique rooms and beautifully appointed common spaces.
We had an amazing stay at the Old Jail. I lived in Midcity, Gentilly, the Westbank years ago so I know the city well and friends had told me about the old jail. First, the vibe is awesome and authentic to New Orleans. The space has historic photos, grand pianos and other New Orleans eclectic pieces but is clean and uncluttered in the rooms, which I personally like. The rooftop view is great for morning coffee, and the rooms we stayed was perfect for two people and we had a bathroom. Everything felt easy staying here - it's nice to be out of the city a bit. I love the Treme area and felt very safe the entire stay. Our rooms and the front door had codes for that added layer of privacy. The owner Todd couldn't be a better host! He had plenty of suggestions for food and live music and always greeted us with a smile - can't wait to stay here on our next NOLA visit.…

Our precious family time together was elevated because of this Inn! The jail history has been preserved & is fascinating but the conversion to an Inn was done so well with all the comforts we desired. We used 5 of the 9 rooms and enjoyed the public gatherings areas- family room, deck, kitchen with other travelers. A lovely surprise happened when an incredible piano player dropped in to play for a while on 1 of the 3 pianos! Can say enough about the super manager & housekeeping staff. They were so accomodating & gave lots of suggestions to maximize our experience in NOLA which they obviously love! I would highly recommend!!

Stayingat the Inn at the Old Jail is like staying at a museum. There is lots of very elegant antique furniture in the common areas and the rooms plus some historical artifacts in display cases.Everything is immaculately clean and , partly because of the relatively small number of rooms, almost always super quiet. There is a huge roof top deck with some great views of the quaint architecture and lush, tropical vegetatipn in the neighbourhood. My room was generously spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The neighbourhood is quiet and safe, with a Whole Foods Market only a few blocks away. But I cannot give a perfect score because the breakfast only consists of bananas ( which tended to be too green), apples, and sweetened cereals( popular- yes but healthy-no).Also, even though it was management's job to wash the dishes - a sink full of dirty dishes was left untouched for 3 days. These are not at all deal killers, simply areas with room for improvement.Overall, I would very highly recommend this place. One last thing, the manager, Todd, is very friendly, outgoing ,entusiastic and helpful.…

Great renovation of an old jail. Todd is a VERY good host and innkeeper. He pointed us toward nice walks and restaurants. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the rooftop deck. The walk to the French Quarter is just over one mile.

This place was great, the hosts were super friendly and had excellent restaurant recommendations close by. They helped with parking, and the history of the building is really interesting. The only downside is that it's a bit noisy, because of all the hard surfaces and high ceilings, but I had earplugs, so I slept just fine.

Amazing that a jail — even one that’s in the National Register of Historic Places — can be cozy and comfy and homey and charming, even with cement floors! But it’s all that, modestly priced in a quiet residential neighborhood — the Treme — not too far from anywhere you want to go but without the corporate, commercial atmosphere. Lots of local small places to grab a bowl of gumbo and not far to so many options. The owner, Todd, is gracious and helpful and charming. Great coffee and comfortable sofas for chatting with the handful of guests. Comfy beds, nice new bathrooms. Really an ideal spot!

Don’t be alarmed by the “Old Jail” concept, this inn is a fabulous place to stay in New Orleans for so many reasons: the unique vibe, location, amenities, comfortable accommodations, and delicious coffee. However, the most outstanding feature is the host, Todd. He was so friendly, fun to chat with, and provided the best recommendations. We can thank Todd and the Inn at the Old Jail for the reason why our time spent in New Orleans was so wonderful. We would stay again in a heartbeat! Highly recommend!

The Inn at the Old Jail offers a truly unique experience. The sensitive restoration that was 3 years in the making shows in every detail. Exposed brick. Police Station Lore. Antique Furnishings. Comfortable beds (we slept in every morning.) In a quiet, convenient location with personalized attention by the owner. What more could you ask for?

Thank you so much for this helpful review! I love to see guests take an interest in the history and renovation of the building. But the real bonus for us was to get to spend some time getting to know you during your stay here. Truly hope you'll become "repeat offenders" at the Old Jail regularly!

I seldom if ever write reviews but needed to let folks know how touched we were by the kindness extended to us by Liz when we were unable to make our reservation due to a series of cancelled flights. Liz stayed in touch with us throughout a harrowing 8 hours and was genuinely caring as we muddled through the frustration of seeing the trip we had planned for months to stay for 3 nights at the Inn disappointedly dissolve. To be the recipient of what I think of as true Southern Hospitality was a gift that not only warmed our frustrated, tired selves but furthered our resolve to rebook a trip to stay at their charming Inn where we can actually thank her in person.
