We recently stayed for the first time at the Lanaux Mansion and were extremely pleased with it. We had a suite on the second floor that was very attractive and comfortable. The owner and staff were very kind and helpful. The kitchen was stocked daily with breakfast croissants and muffins, cereal, milk, juice, and coffee. The suite was immaculately clean... More

INNKEEPER’S FAVORITE REVIEW

Miss Ruth, the owner of Lanaux Mansion, could not have been a more gracious hostess. She met us when we arrived and walked us to the Enchanted Cottage. The Cottage is a very comfortable and well appointed studio apartment, with a queen bed, stall shower, and a full kitchen, with a refrigerator/freezer and microwave. The Cottage has its own area... We booked a Bed & Breakfast accommodation instead of a hotel because of our good previous experiences but this time was a big disappointment. The breakfast is really poor and bad quality. We were looking forward like in previous Bead & Breakfast to enjoy the breakfast with the other guests in the a common area or similar but we just... More

The friendly owner lives in this historic house which has been the location for a number of movies. Upon request, she gives her guests tours of the grandest private rooms. I stayed alone in the large and lovely Johnson Suite located in the old slave quarters. As others have noted, there really is no breakfast except for a very modest... More

We spent 4 days in the Lanaux Mansion in The Enchanted Cottage. It was quiet and peaceful. The room was full of antiques and fresh linen , towels and its own private entrance into the most beautiful walking garden. Miss Ruth , the owner of the charming home located on the edge of the French Quarter was the highlight of... More

We stayed with Miss Ruth, southern hostess extraordinaire, at her Lanaux Mansion in the French Quarter. What a lovely historic home she has there filled with wonderful antiques, warm, comfortably appointed room and charming courtyard. We asked all over town for the best restaurant, and she was able to score a much-coveted reservation there for us - at her own... More

Beautiful place to stay, along with great walking distance to Frenchmen st. and French Quarter! I was very pleased with the service and cleanliness. The vintage house is well kept and makes for a relaxing weekend getaway. I will be returning again soon! Ruth and Karin were such a delight! Thank you for making my stay fabulous!

Wanted to stay close to the French Quarter, without the madness of Bourbon street. This location is excellent, 2 blocks off Bourban at the east end, and 2 blocks from Frenchman street. Service and amenities excellent. Nothing fancy for breakfast, but it fit the bill. Street noise a bit loud from the late night revelers walking by, but hey, you're... More

We stayed in the Enchanted cottage at the guest house/B&B. Although just a few blocks from both Bourbon street action, the french market and Frenchman street. It felt secluded and quiet with lush outdoor patios. Ruth is a wonderful host and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

My family gathers in New Orleans once a year and we have stayed at many hotels, usually nearer the stadium, over the years. This year we were a smaller group and decided we wanted to experience the Faubourg Marigny area but wanted to be near to the Quarter. We looked at several places before deciding on the Lanaux (which is... More

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighborhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
