This room served its purpose. It was a place to stay for the night, but I could not wait to get out of there. The smell of Clorox in the room was so bad it burned my nose and eyes. The bed has plastic on the mattress and the sheets fall off. The toilet leaked and there was a bucket... More

This place was far from the Ritz. But after reading some of the reviews, I was scared to stay. However I was in New Orleans for Essence Festival and I was due to check out the Rite on the 4th, there wasn't another room in the city. I drove by the Empress Hotel. I went in to see if they... More

This hotel is great if your into prostitutes and drug addicts walking around. Along with holes in the walls and mold in the bathroom. The bathtub looked like it had duct tape on it. The mattress is wrapped in plastic. The room might be 10x10. While I was waiting on my refund another customer was wanting a refund cause she... More

My wife and I stay here for a night (we only had one night)!! on our way to visit my parents in Mobile. We've been to New Orleans many times, and of course, love it!! We thought the Empress Hotel was exactly as advertised!. The accomodations are basic (it's not the Royal Sonesta!!!), but the location was awesome, the price... More

The rooms are disgusting and this hotel should be torn down or at least gutted and renovated. The walls are badly damaged, the floors are so rotten in the bathroom that you can press down and see underneath, the towels are dirty, there are ant and roach traps, plastic mattress covers, windows that you cannot see out with broken blinds....You... I got there on a Saturday night the weekend of my Spring Break. There weren't any other rooms in town and this hotel had two. However, the room wasn't available until 8:00 and they wouldn't let me even pay for it until 7:30. The room was nothing fancy, I didn't expect it to me. It had a window unit in... More

I could not recommend staying at this hotel. I guess you get what you pay for, it was under $100 and walking distance to the French quarter. It was very run down, the bathroom had holes in the wall from water damage. The window was open and the air on and it still had a dirty smell.

Pro: Off street parking included IF you get there in time to find a parking spot. Pro: Cheap price. Pro: Friendly staff. Pro: Just a couple blocks outside of the French Quarter. Pro: Very close to Louis Armstrong Park/Mahalia Jackson Theater/Willie Mae's Scotch House Restaurant. Con: Maintenance is severely neglected: worn and torn linoleum flooring; crumbling plaster walls; leaking plumbing;... More

I booked 2 nights. Stayed 1 and got out. I was afraid to shower here. By far the worst place I have ever stayed. My window didn't close all the way. I use the term window loosely. It's basically a dorm room with a rickety door that doesn't close properly. The only redeeming quality is the staff. You leave a... More

Each year I attend the same scientific meeting with up to 10,000 attending. So, it's held in a major city with a convention center. The meeting is in March and I usually book my hotel well in advance, usually in August for the following year. I choose a mid-range hotel within a mile of the convention center. I neglected to... Staying in Treme

Neighborhood Profile
Treme
That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.
