Stay was wonderful. Fascinating tour of the house and history on the life of Edgar Degas ( a little too long approx. 2 hrs.). Service and the breakfast was A+. Stayed four nights for my wife's birthday and they really made her feel special, thanks again Sharon. Had a bottle of sherry in the room that was delicious. Only a... More

Thank you for choosing Degas House to celebrate your wife's birthday. We try to treat all our guests to an amazing experience, and when we learn of a guest having a special event such as a birthday, we do what we can to make it memorable. Sherry is just one of the many amenities we provide in all our rooms.... More

Great room. Great Service. Great breakfast. My travel companion and I had a great experience with the management of the Degas House. After dealing with terrible and rude management with the Rathborne Bed and Breakfast the Degas House welcomed up with open arms. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Very interesting for those art lovers who follow the impressionists. Though Degas only resided here for a brief time, it was extremely formative for his later ventures into Impressionism. Worth the trip and the reproductions of his paintings are remarkable. Tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable.

We were there for a wedding. From the event viewpoint, it was fabulous. The staff & especially wedding coordinator Flora were great. They were helpful, attentive, and accommodating. They staged a beautiful wedding. From the lodging standpoint, it left a lot to be desired. Though the building is historic and charming, it is sorely in need of repairs and maintenance.... More

My out of town friends were interested in Degas so we booked the brunch and tour. Unfortunately, we canceled the brunch because when we arrived, there were dead flowers for the centerpiece and a roach ran across the sideboard with the coffee. We returned for the tour which was two hours. The tour guide was very informative but repetitive. There... More

Thank you for your review and for choosing to attend the Edgar Degas House Creole Impressionist Tour. We apologize that you were disappointed in what you found in the house prior to the brunch. Unfortunately, New Orleans and the Deep South has bugs due to the heat and humidity. Our exterminator comes on a regular basis, but sometimes they slip... More

The history of this house is very interesting. I highly recommend doing the tour if you stay here. The house and rooms are very nice. We stayed for two nights and there were weddings both nights. The breakfast was tasty. The only negative thing I can say is we were kind of on our own the 2 days we were... More

These people are great owners. .very accommodating. Incredible old world rooms filled with antiques, and art. Some Degas. Brandy in room! Scrumptious breakfast before your stroll to the New Orleans museums..it down to the market. Street parking difficult, but use a cab! Nice parlor with old grand piano. A lovely historic house with lots of character in a great location convenient to everything. Esplanade has overarching oaks and fabulous architectural variety, and it's easy to get to City Park and the New Orleans Museum of Art, or the Vieux Carre.

Staying in Treme

Neighborhood Profile
Treme
That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.
