I wish I could post a terrible review just to try and keep this place for myself but that wouldn't be fair to Jill and Charles. We love the Chimes and will keep coming back for the friendliness (guests included), location, comfort and excellent breakfast and coffee.
My wife and I spent 3 lovely nights there this week with some friends. We've always stayed in or near the French Quarter where there are some great restaurants and constant street activity, which is not always enjoyable or safe. What a joy to discover another side of this great city! The Chimes is located in a quiet, beautiful, and safe residential neighborhood in the Touro District, just a few steps from St. Charles and Magazine streets. Some fantastic, small restaurants and boutiques are within easy and safe walking distance. Jill and Charles are quintessential hosts and the accommodations are perfect in every respect. If you just can't resist visiting The Quarter, hop on the St. Charles Street trolley (80 cents all day fare for seniors) and you're there. Uber was less than a 4 minute wait where ever we were. Try this "other side" of NOLA and you will not be disappointed! …
The Chimes is a lovely inn with lovely hosts in uptown New Orleans. Charles and Jill make sure the rooms are flawlessly cleaned with every amenity needed for a most comfortable stay. There is fresh drinking water provided in the rooms (such a simple thing but often overlooked), wifi works great, bathroom toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash) are nice and plentiful. Beds are so very comfortable with luxurious linens. Rooms have a microwave, small fridge (for delicious leftovers!) and a coffee maker, but the coffee bar on the outside porch is fantastic with that rich New Orleans coffee we love brewed up every morning. We also love the outdoor courtyard and pergola areas for sipping coffee or for an evening glass of wine. We ordered breakfast one morning which was fantastic!- fresh pastries, eggs, or avocado toast with fresh fruit, cheese, yogurt. The Chimes is in a residential area and safe area but close enough to walk to Magazine Street for restaurants and shopping or to St Charles for streetcar. Parking is on the street but easy to find a nearby spot. Highly recommend!…
The room was perfect. Great use of space. Beautiful. Immaculate. Gorgeous setting. Safe location. Parking even! Breakfast was delicious. You can't go wrong staying here. I stayed also at the Hotel Pontchartrain and the Audubon Suites. While they all had their charm, Chimes was a much better bang for your buck so to speak. If my son ends up going to Tulane I will be staying frequently!
My wife & I just spent a week at The Chimes; we couldn't have had a better stay. The location was great and the accommodations inside (the room) and outside (the courtyard) were perfect. We would recommend staying there to anyone who asked.
We have been visiting the Chimes since 2013. We spent a week there over Jazz Fest. Why do we keep coming back? Why can’t we imagine staying anywhere else? It’s in a safe neighbourhood. It’s a few blocks up from Magazine, one of the most vibrant streets in New Orleans, and only a short step away from the streetcar on St Charles. Oh, and because we always feel welcome. Simply Jill and Charles are wonderful hosts. We’ll be back next year.
I was lucky enough to spend 3 nights at The Chimes B&B and so happy I did. The accommodations were very comfortable, the room and the grounds were beautiful. The hosts were available when needed and never intruded. Jill’s eggs were delicious! I cannot recommend staying here more, absolutely perfect I can’t wait to go back.
The Chimes is located perfectly for exploring The Garden District, Magazine Street, and taking the St. Charles Ave street car to the French Quarter. The courtyard is a lovely setting for morning coffee, a good book, and an end-of-day glass of wine. Our room was very comfortable, spotless, and met our needs in every way. Numerous good restaurants along Magazine Street are within convenient walking distance. We enjoy longer walks and logged quite a few miles walking through the neighborhoods to see the many historic, beautiful homes the area is known for. Jill and Charles are friendly and helpful hosts who made our stay even more enjoyable. The Chimes will be the first place we check whenever we travel to New Orleans.
We were lucky to find this place while in town for the Final Four. The neighborhood was quiet but conveniently located. Walkable to nice restaurants and the streetcar. There was ample safe street parking near the B&B. The room was spacious and had all the necessities. The hosts were very hospitable and provided great recommendations. A great place to stay when visiting New Orleans.
We were in town for the Final Four and so glad we had a quiet and relaxing place to stay at the end of the day. Great hosts and food in a quiet and safe neighborhood. We will definitely stay here next time.
