French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.

I arrived on a weekend during an event of some kind called "Essence." That's probably why the room seemed overpriced. The facility is cramped to the point of seeming almost claustrophobic. Very small reception area with two overstuffed chairs that take up most of the space. A courtyard with a pool that takes up most of the courtyard. The pool has no shower to allow people to rinse off before entering, and several guests asked me when I used it whether I thought the water was clean. I didn't, but made sure to shower afterwards. If I were someone else, I'd certainly have wanted ME to rinse off the sweat and grit before entering. The pool is my major issue with the place. Everything else was adequate, but nothing to crow about. Complimentary breakfast is rather plain, though the coffee and juice are excellent. The location is nice, a block above Bourbon Street and four blocks in from Canal. There's a parking garage accessible from the elevator area. The front desk staff is polite and helpful. There's a bar adjacent to the courtyard and pool, and you get a complimentary drink on check-in. Overall not a bad place, but could be better. The location is its major strong point.

This hotel is well situated in the French Quarter. I’d highly recommend staying in one of the balcony rooms for the street view! The rooms were clean and the bed was quite comfortable. The staff was very helpful with directions and restaurant suggestions.

We went to NOLA on a family vacation. The Dauphine was a simple hotel that provided a place to sleep, and a pool. Our room did not have a refrigerator but other than that it had all the basics. The A/C unit did not work efficiently while we were there but they said maintenance was working on it. It is an easy walk to Jackson square, Burboun St and the Aquarium.
