We stayed for our anniversary and it was so much better than we expected! The hosts were very friendly and our room had the softest sheets I’ve ever slept on! The breakfast was delicious and made with local ingredients! We will definitely be back! Highly recommend!!
My husband and I came to Speckled Hen for a anniversary get away. Bonus point for being so close to our own house! It's near everything you need but far enough away that it feels like you are miles away! We were going to go to dinner, but decided to not leave our room at all! It was so relaxing and inviting! We ordered in food from Arods and enjoyed the fire and movie! The breakfast was phenomenal! Local home grown food. I can't say enough great things about Speckled Hen Inn and the owners. We will definitely be back!
The Speckled Hen Inn is wonderful! Our room was great, the land surrounding the inn was a winter wonderland, and the food was delicious! Heather and Tom were amazing hosts, and they were even able to accommodate our dietary restrictions and make us the most delicious gluten free breakfast. Staying at the Speckled Hen Inn was the best decision, and it made our weekend in Madison perfect.
Heather and Tom were delightful hosts. Our stay was relaxing and peaceful. Two best friends and overworked moms looking for a weekend escape from busy lives, kids/family, work and responsibility - looking for a weekend of peace and reflection. The room was luxurious and I've never had softer sheets in my life. There was a wonderful gathering space with movies, games and a little kitchenette with a woodburning stove that kept us warm as we sat next to it to read. We appreciated the breakfast choices to accommodate different diet preferences, and we ate up the featured dishes made from eggs from their own chickens. Saying hello to the animals and walking the trails was a lovely quiet break from the city and Tom was so interesting and taught us a lot about llamas and sheep that he bottle fed as a baby. Lots to do in the area. Highly recommend staying here and I hope to come back someday!…
I cant say enough great things about Heather and Tom! Our stay was absouletly perfect. Comfy bed, clean rooms, amazing food (bonus gluten free options I was so excited!), quiet and so relaxing! The fireplace in the room was amazing and it was just so cozy! I HIGHLY recommend a stay here you will not be dissapointed!
This place is by far the best place I've ever stayed at hands down. I love soaking with bath bombs while listening to podcasts, and my rooms private claw foot tub was large and the water gets very hot. Talking with the hosts at breakfast and during the barn tour made me feel like I was visiting old friends. I have never felt so welcome so quickly anywhere else, and I travel a fair amount for work and sports competitions. The breakfast was very fresh, and they were easily able to accommodate for multiple allergies. I also really enjoyed being able to sit in front of a real fireplace, drinking really good coffee while getting some reading and work done every morning :)
Recently, my spouse and I had the pleasure of a stay at The Speckled Hen Inn just outside of Madison, WI. This was our third visit, and we both agreed that the Speckled Hen was now settled securely in our travel plans as a “must do” annual event. Our most recent visit was in December. Innkeepers Heather and Tom greeted us in their spacious inn that was decked out in all its holiday glory, including an enormous Christmas village (with train) and a crackling fire. We had made a request for the Haywood Hardy suite, and it just as we remembered: A plush king-sized bed, jacuzzi, gas fireplace, spacious modern bathroom, and a very roomy and comfy TV sitting room which allowed one of us to rise early and have coffee (delivered by Heather) while the other slept in. The Speckled Hen is well-known for its breakfast and for good reason. Tom and Heather raise their own egg-laying chickens and grow a wide variety of veggies. They then turn their bounty into tasty creations that any fine restaurant would be proud to serve. A recent change now allowed us to pick the time of the morning that we wanted to eat breakfast and choose from a variety of offerings. It was delicious! We were fortunate enough to get a snowfall our first night, and we woke up to what can only be described as a “winter wonderland!” To a couple of city-dwellers, it was breathtaking. After breakfast, we put our boots on and walked down to the little barn to say hello to the sheep and Lily the llama before returning to go museum-hopping in nearby downtown Madison. All in all, it was a relaxing, very enjoyable few days, and we are already planning our return for next year.…
We enjoyed the Wonderful Christmas decorations. Heather is a great cook so breakfast was very yummy. It was very relaxing doing a puzzle in the gathering room and getting a tour of the farm from Tom.
We stayed for a weekend in early December for our anniversary and had a wonderful time. The Inn is lovely, and it was decorated nicely for the holidays. The main area was cozy, the rooms were comfy and clean, the food was delicious and the hosts, Heather and Tom, were very friendly. The property that the Inn is located on is rustic and you feel like you are up north, but the location is conveniently located on the outskirts of Madison, making it easy to get to activities in the city. We highly recommend the Speckled Hen Inn and would stay there again. Bill and Jackie
The property, room and common areas were absolutely beautiful. The breakfast was delicious with so many options and the staff were warm and welcoming. Not a single detail was missed. My husband and I found it difficult to leave!
