We’ve stayed here multiple times and always love the location on campus, feeling like we could just return back to our glory days as students. Lots of food options during the day, and the bowling alley/pool tables are fun at night. Parking is very convenient. Our only complaint is that the rooms have not been upgraded since it was built. Some of the decor, particularly the bedding, is looking a bit tired. We were on the top floor and there was a funny banging noise in the morning coming from above us. It sounded like they kept dropping heavy items. We presume they were doing work but it started quite early and woke us up. We will request a lower floor next time.

The hotel had everything you would expect of a nice hotel. Clean rooms with modern amenities (including wall-mounted soap dispensers in the shower, which I always like to see rather than wasteful single-use mini shampoos). Keycards that worked properly with no fuss. Parking garage where all the barriers and readers worked with no fuss, and there was no trouble finding a spot. Fast WiFi. Beds not as comfortable as my own memory foam mattress, but for a hotel-issue innerspring, totally fine.
The real standout for me was the front desk staff, especially Ken. There was a snafu in communication with the university department that was having me up for a visit weekend, and they didn't book a room for me (not the hotel's fault). Ken and his team got me into the last available room in the building and handled the communication with the university department, doing everything they could to make my stay the pleasant and productive one it turned out to be. I really appreciate how they went the extra mile; they truly care that their guests have a great experience.
If you're looking to stay here, it's likely because you're affiliated with the university in some way, as a prospective student, parents of a student, visiting faculty etc. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of campus.

We had a king suite for an overnight when we drove up to Madison to snowshoe. I got an amazing package because I'm a lifetime member of the Wisconsin Union, but this would have been a good stay regardless. The hotel is comfortable and met all our needs, and free parking in an area where parking is pretty challenging makes it a great option. The food was good, too.

There are only 6 rooms at the Memorial Union and I have no idea how I got so lucky to snag one for SOAR orientation weekend! My daughter and I stayed together in a king suite (Room 3, I believe) and it was AWESOME! I do have to warn that it is not easy to check in or find. You must go to Union SOUTH to get your key then follow every direction to park and get up the room. It’s a bit tricky but the perfect room and view! I did not get any emails to confirm this stay… and don’t know why.

Professionals and Students working together. Room was clean and practical, with badger touches.
Parking arrangements are the best I've had as a frequent guest of the Madison area.
I was able to access a state of the art Recreational Facility at UW as well.
I would recommend this property to anyone

Very convenient for campus meetings. Rooms are modern and clean....walls z bit thing (or neighbours were noisy). Amenities on the main floor are lots of campus food...even a pub. Bed was comfy. Would likely stay here again if the opportunity arises.

I was visiting the University of Wisconsin with my daughter and selected this hotel because it is attached to the school. And I would say as far as location goes it can't be beat. However I had a few bad incidents. My sleep was disturbed in the middle of the night by a very loud noise in my room. I called the front desk and they were not very sympathetic. They did not want to come to the room to see what was wrong. I had too beg saying this noise is not normal. I cannot sleep with it. Someone eventually came. It turned out the refrigerator was making the noise. The serviceman made some adjusent and the noise stopped. Next my daughter took sick and I asked of due to the circumstances if the hotel could extend check out for a few hours. An emphatic NO! She is sleeping in the lobby as I write this. Not much hospitality here

Response from wishotel, Front Office Manager at Wisconsin Union Hotel
Responded Mar 21, 2013
Dear MarylandJan, Thank you for staying with us on your recent visit to Madison and for taking the time to write about your recent experience at our hotel. We strive to accommodate all of our guests and their needs and I’m disappointed that we did not meet your expectations. I apologize for the shortfalls during your recent stay with us. Concerning your refrigerator, I know our front-desk representative came up to your room and personally dealt with the noise at 3am. Regarding check-out, I know your check-out had already been extended to noon, and being that we were sold-out that night, I unfortunately could not extend your check-out until 2 or 3pm. If the circumstances had been different, you may have been able to stay in your room until your flight. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to our hotel and replace your bad experience with one that reflects our true standards. Eric

Our little family of four booked one of the extended stay suites and boy were we pleasantly suprised. We had a full galley kitchen with 3/4 size fridge, a nook with a desk, flat screens in both the bedroom and in the sitting room with sofabed, a great view of the Union south plaza/Camp Randall, parking in the basement (hassle-free), and all the amenities of the Union right downstairs. My kids loved the bowling and air-hockey, and they could run amok on the plaza all they wanted in the mornings before my coffee kicked in.
All this for $200. If you aren't a Union member it will be more. I am going to spread the rumor that it is prohibitively more so that I get to stay here again. As a matter of fact, forget you read this and stay at the Concourse, or the Edgewater and leave this place for me.
I can't imagine a better place on a football weekend, and when word gets out these rooms will probably have to go lottery, since the band performs on the plaza before the game, and they won't sell you enough beer not to make it back to the Union from Camp Randall across the street. The best hangover food in the world is mere blocks away at Mickie's Dairy Bar, to boot.
Sure, there's no room service, and yeah, it'd be nice to be closer to State Street (maybe - if you aren't keen on sleep), and ok, this is the 'wrong' Union and you can't fool us with the terrace furniture on the concrete patio with the fake stream. This is still the bargain of the century.
The real measure of the place will be taken in two years after a few seasons of football weekend revelry have dinged up the furniture and soiled the linens beyond bleach, but until then, you won't do better in a 100 mile radius.

I'm extremely grateful we were able to exceed your expectations and provide you an unforgettable experience here at the University of Wisconsin. As you had mentioned, football weekends are very popular and book quickly; Union members and students are allowed to book a year in advance for special event weekends such as these, however, all other guests of the University are required to wait 21 days prior to the weekend to book. I'm also happy you appreciated your room overlooking the terrace and stadium -- during football games guests are able to see all the action out on the terrace which includes spectacular performances from the UW band; these rooms only run $5 more than a standard room which is well worth the experience. We hope to see you back for the upcoming football season! Thank you, Tyler Dovenbarger

If you’re looking for a place to stay that’s in the middle of the action around Camp Randall Stadium, this is the place. The Union is completely new and very nice – I grew up going to Badger games and staying in the old Union South so this is definitely a different scene. Room was comfortable, clean and modern. Comfy bed. Several different eating options on the 1st floor of the Union so no shortage of convenience. There is underground parking for hotel guests – but you need to check in first to get your pass. There is a circle for temporary parking right off Dayton so you can park there while you run in and check in.
One thing to note is that there is quite a bit of noise generated at night from The Sett, which is located on levels B, 1 and 2. We stayed on a Friday night and the noise from the band playing was pouring out to the patio and therefore our 5th floor room which faced the patio. If you’re looking for a little more peace and quiet during your stay, you might be better served by requesting a room without a patio view, or an odd room number (evens face the patio/Camp Randall).
We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again. GO BIG RED!!!!!

Thank you very much for your feedback. Union South indeed is quite the busy place and we do our very best to keep the hotel as quiet as possible at all times. Typically on the weekends the Union does host various musical artists who perform on the first floor, however, we've performed sound checks and have taken various steps to prevent any noise on the first floor from disrupting our guests. Our round the clock staff is always here if there is ever any issue such as this that needs to be addressed. We greatly appreciate your feedback and do our best to address your concerns to ensure you have an excellent stay. We hope to have you back in the near future. Thank you! Tyler Dovenbarger

My son and I stayed here during a recent college visit. The hotel was the perfect place to stay in order to experience the campus first hand. My prospective student enjoyed the bowling alley and pool tables in the student union. The hotel is connected to the student union so there are plenty of places to eat. We were walking distance to the university and the state capital and the staff was alway willing to help plan bus routes if needed.

The Wisconsin Union Hotel is the perfect place to stay for a campus visit. The hotel, located on the 4th and 5th floors of Union South, one of two student unions on campus, provides the ultimate experience for both parents and perspective students. We hope you were able to experience everything the new Union South has to offer including a wide variety of dining options along with recreational activities such as bowling and rock climbing. Fun doesn't stop here at the Union, the hotel is just a short walk from Madison's historic State Street and Memorial Union located on Lake Mendota where you can unwind from a long day and grab a bite to eat on the Terrace overlooking the lake. We're extremely happy your stay here at the Wisconsin Union Hotel was a memorable one and hope to see you back again real soon! -Tyler Dovenbarger

I'm not 100% sure but I don't believe the rooms have access to HBO.
There are numerous computers on site. Our front desk associates would be happy to assist you with this.
I can not say for sure, but the general rule is that you must have a credit card.
