I had made a mistake on reservation dates and had not canceled the room. I was able to get a room the day that I arrived, but when I questioned the staff about the nite of the missed reservation as to their level of occupancy that nite and if they had resold the room…I got a questionable response. The room I received the nite of checkin was in an adjacent bldg which required going thru a long tunnel that smelled like dead fish. Was told it was the last room available and cost was $$$$. Will never stay here again.
We highly recommend staying at the Edgewater when visiting UW Madison. An excellent location, close to campus, and an incredible view. The staff, room, and restaurant were all outstanding. We can not wait to visit again.
Avoid wedding season stays at all costs. A/C didn't work making for hot sleepless nights. Valet & shuttle services did not once meet the basic level of expectations. We had to Uber everywhere defeating the cost of valet. Servers at Boathouse restaurant tried to take our food while we were ACTIVELY eating.? Private dining experience in Statehouse for a wedding was our only saving grace. We could have stayed at a chain hotel or somewhere on the Square and paid 1/4 of the cost and received better customer service and amenities
Haven't stayed on property yet; however, the booking experience with Myron was absolutely enjoyable! He was nice to talk to and was very accommodating! I can't wait to go to this property! Sounds like the best location to be able to take in all that Madison has to offer! Thank you, Myron for the excellent service :)
We loved staying here, and were close to everything. We could walk anywhere. The views are amazing and all of the staff were so helpful and pleasant. We can't wait to come back. Loved being at the spa which was very relaxing.
Location on the lake can't be beat. Beautiful views from rooms and special event venues like the Sky Bar and Red Crown Room. Room was very comfortable and quiet. But make no mistake this is a pricey hotel. Even with the substantial discount that was applied for being part of a block of rooms associated with a wedding, it cost $733 for two nights, including self- parking (for $20 per night) at the hotel.
Nice hotel, but overrated. I have stayed in four- and five-star hotels in the past. For the price and the hype of the Edgewater, this is not one of them. The view of Lake Mendota was beautiful. The room was very clean and housekeeping was efficient and fast. The hotel simply did not provide the "extras" I would associate with a high-class hotel. The front-desk service was polite. The gave minimal information at check-in, no bellhop offered. The room was a standard hotel room. Coffee pot was small and provided two cups per day. No hotel guide (checkout time, locations of pool, etc), no safe, no minibar, paper cups instead of real glasses, no turndown service. Hotel has been renovated as it is an old property. However, I felt like the exercise room and spa pool was in a dungeon; they are located in the basement of one of the buildings with no windows. There was water damage and paint coming off the walls, ceilings here were concrete and damaged. If I were paying for a mid-grade, standard hotel room, this hotel would have been acceptable. For the price I paid, I expected much more.…
An otherwise nice hotel was spoiled by leftover room service food from another room left outside my door all night. This is health violation and a turn off. Room service should proactively collect trays. This never happens in Europe. This is Motel 6 quality.
Apparently if you can afford to stay at the Edgewater, you must also be clairvoyant. The signage to find the place was poor at best. The check in process left us with little to no information about the property. Check out was the same. During the entire stay I did not feel welcome.
This hotel needs to improve its level in food and breakfast and provide a room service. It is the only hotel which does not offer cereals for breafast in the USA! And no one tells you when you reserve that the hotel does not offer room service soit is not a four star hotel to say the least
