Had a small but sweet stay for a day. The place is a bit off from the lake and town. Nice and helpful hosts. Pros: Wonderfully helpful staff. Nicely maintained. Excellent cook. Had a wonderful breakfast. Cons: A little bit away from main area but cant have all at the price.

The owners are really nice and kind (especially the lovely old man!), rooms are well equipped and some of them offer an impressive view of Nuwara Eliya. Also, good and rich breakfast. Only con was that our room was quite humid at night.

Stayed here for 2 nights in off season. It is very close to The Grand Hotel and an easy walk into the city. The room is quite basic, the furniture is a little old, but everything is clean, and we had a nice view over the vegetable gardens. What makes this place is the staff.

Hi Chris, We faced the same problem as we wanted to head from Nuwara Eliya to Mirissa on the South Coast, perhaps with a very brief stop in Ella. There is a train from Nanu Oya about 14km from Nuwara Eliya to Ella and it's possible to get a bus South from Ella to Matara and then onwards from there by bus is easy as Matara is a transport hub. Matara buses can be crowded but you have a very good chance of a seat being at the start of the journey. The drawback for the overall journey was travel time. It would have taken us up to about 10 hours and could have taken longer depending on the buses used. From your point of view Unawatuna or Galle would be further still if you are heading straight there. Although we used public transport everywhere else, for this we chose to hire a car and driver. Our accommodation (Manudi Glenfallsedge Rest) offered one for 17,000 rupees at first but a local driver used by the Grand Hotel offered to take us by minibus for 15,000. We told the guesthouse owner and he then offered us an air conditioned car with driver for 16,000 and we went for that. We reckoned it was worth it, The drive to Mirissa took 3 hours going through Ella and with a short stop to see the waterfalls at Rawana Ella and a rest stop en route and was very very comfortable. The time saved in travelling was like giving us an extra day. A couple of other points in case they are useful: For Horton Plains you don't need a guide to make it to World's End, the track is easy to follow. Aim to get there early (opening was 6am) and following the path from the entrance it's best to head left at the fork (there's an information board there) to see World's End before too many people reach it. If you take a packed breakfast any plastic bottles or snacks in plastic wrapping will be dropped into a brown paper carrier (supplied free) along with the rest of your food. No plastic wrapping can be taken in. Items like drinks that are taken off you will be returned as you leave but they let us take bottled water. If your plans are to head up to Colombo from Galle by train I would recommend taking the time to reserve a seat or get your accommodation to do it ahead if you've booked to stay somewhere. That train gets BUSY. Hope that helps. I can't include an e-mail address as Trip Advisor blocks any HTML/website/e-mail links but please feel free to post further questions if needed.
