An original mid 19th-century planter’s bungalow situated high in the hills midst the lush tea fields of Labookellie, Nuwara Eliya. Perched on a natural ridge at elevation 5500 ft, Highgrove offers sweeping lawns, English gardens and magnificent views of tea fields, valleys and distant waterfalls. Prince Charles visited in 2013 on a royal visit to Sri Lanka and it was restored in 2018 back to its original form and features 3 luxury bedroom suites, 3 open fireplaces, floor carpets, sitting areas, wooden writing desks and period furniture. One can also enjoy a selection of music, a library of old books, prints and maps of the nearby Estates. The homestead sits under the shadows of ‘Kondagala’ rock offering spring mountain water; fresh clean air, lovely days and cooler nights kept warm by fireplaces, hot tubs, and cozy beds with soft quilts. Beautiful estate with great view and equally great staff. It's located on the hill top with an almost 360-degree view . The garden is well maintained with cute places to sit n enjoy your tea. Absolutely peaceful and with great view and greenery. It's decorated beautifully, especially the living room n master bedrooms. The interior and furnishing are well suited to the place. Staff is great and friendly. They are well managed by Mr Johnson.The food was delicious and all our needs were arranged smoothly. I would love to come back again.

My Grand parents owned this estate before it changed hands. Was so happy to see how well they have developed this property to a 5 star boutique hotel with exceptional service by it’s dedicated team headed by Johnson. The service here was more than exceptional .The manager Johnson personally supervised the staff to ensure that we got a 5 star hotel service .The food was exceptional.we had the Sri Lankan breakfast and western dinners which were both excellent The place was very clean and well maintained.This place is definitely worth a visit.Will definitely come back

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Highgrove. The ambience and serenity was amazing. The staff and especially Johnston could not do enough for us. I would highly recommend this place. The house/villa has been tastefully decorated.

This villa is worthy of a separate novel! First of all, it's a house with a century of history. Furnishings, style, every detail of the interior - everything is perfectly selected! Secondly, the villa stands on the mountain, which means that from any point there is a stunning view: plantations, snake roads, green slopes, and there is always a huge sky above your head. You can talk about sunsets for a long time and colourfully, but it will not describe all the delight of impressions! In the morning you can have breakfast right on the lawn, enjoying not only delicious food and excellent serving, but also the singing of birds, the aroma of various trees and flowers, as well as the murmur of a deliciously made small waterfall. And thirdly, any villa is represented by the owner! It is he who creates the atmosphere and fills the place with energy. And although Johnson is only the manager of this house, he takes care of him as his own. And if this villa is paradise, then Johnson is an angel! He is responsible for everything, helps in any trifle, he is always there at the same time, but never bothers. He can grow a vegetable garden, cook dinner, and solve any problem at the highest level. He cares about the comfort and cosiness for guests as if you were old acquaintances he had been waiting for for many years. You will not want to leave this place, you will want to come back here. fka Hilltops, my grandparent's home for almost 20 years, Highgrove opened their doors to my mum, uncle, aunt & I as if we were family. Johnson & team are excellent, the place is cosy and comfy and the food absolutely delicious. This brought back many precious memories and we will be back.

We were lucky to find this place in early Janury 2023 right on the day we decided to move on from Nuwara eliya. I noticed it on Google maps and decided to at least have a glance. When you see the bungalow you have no other way rather than stay at least for a night. The view is fantastic, the property is superb, the staff is experienced kind and helpful, the food is yummy! Mr. Johnson managing the property takes care of your unforgetable Sri Lanka experince.

We had originally planned one night at Highgrove Estate in the month of April (late April, 2022). We enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to stay another night there as we had the entire place to ourselves. It was very relaxing, quiet and comfortable. The food was great and the Manager Johnson was so obliging and together with his team made our stay very comfortable and most of all a memorable one. We were so glad we had made the time to visit and stay at Highgrove Estate. We will definitely visit when we are in Sri Lanka on our next trip and will bring our family along with us. Stayed two nights at the Highgrove Estate and absolutely loved it. Fortunately my husband and I had the entire place to ourselves, which made our experience even better. Service was on point - both by Johnson and Augustine. 10/10 for food!

We had a two night stay at this place in Mid April 2022. It was a family trip including six adults and three kids. There were no difficulties with the reservation and the manager Mr. Johnson was very accommodating and courteous in providing us with the necessary clarifications even from the time of the reservation and there was a call from him on the day before our arrival, regarding the meals . The price, considering it was in the height of the season was reasonable and breakfast was included in the price. We reached the bungalow around 11 a.m. and the staff was ready to welcome us. As people who have travelled a lot in Sr Lanka, we can safely say that the food was excellent and so was the service and cleanliness. It was quite clear that the entire staff really did work as a very efficient team under the management of Mr. Johnson and all of them were more than happy to accommodate our requests, however small the were and they especially took care of preparing meals for our smaller kid. Though it might not really be necessary , air-conditioning was available in two rooms out of the three and those rooms were large enough to accommodate an additional bed. Therefore eight adults can comfortably be accommodated in the bungalow. The bungalow is located about 15km from Nuwaraeliya town in a relatively quiet but quite a picturesque surrounding. There is quite a lot of birdlife around as well. The location is quite close to the Labukele tea factory and there are hiking opportunities as well. There is a slight problem with the access road however, which has some rain erosion but still would be passable even for the average motorcar. All in al its a very good place to stay which is close to Nuwaraeliya but away from the crowded city, with good meals and comfortable beds with the most attentive staff you would aver want.…
