It is like stepping into a time warp at The Hill Club - it's fascinating - more like a museum than a hotel. Upon arrival we were told we had been upgraded to a 'suite'. It was the most dreadful room, with no window other than a high one with frosted glass, a very strange room configuration and a terrible... More

We had an excellent couple of nights here at this old gentlemen's club from the colonial era. The hotel retains the traditional atmosphere and was very well priced. The hot water bottles in the rooms we also a nice touch. We particularly enjoyed dining in the restaurant. There is good set menu for $24 and we ate a la carte... More

The Hill Club. Where to start? A wonderful glimpse of the old colonial days in a building which, superficially at least, hasn't changed much in 100+ years. As a large family group we had four rooms and were therefore able to see the range. Most of which were very spacious and highly functional without detracting from the building ambiance. Very... We stayed here for one night on our week's tour of Sri Lanka. As you catch sight of the the Hill Club it is difficult not to be impressed. What is now a hotel was once a colonial country club and it really does feel as if you are stepping back in time - to Scotland or England. Some reviews... More

Outdated, slow service, awful food, pretentious (for no good reason). Worst hotel we've stayed in for years. Spend a bit extra and stay next door in the Grand Hotel. Could not have got out of there quick enough this morning, even skipped breakfast!

Such a shame we were accused of stealing two torches from our rooms as we left the Hill Club. It left us with a bad taste in our mouths after what otherwise was a wonderful stay in a charasmatic, colonial English hotel, full of character and style. Did they really think we'd need to steal 2 plastic torches after paying... More

We were interested in this hotel as it provides you with an experience of Sri Lanka's colonial past. Don't imagine this is a tourist trick however, as this hotel is very serious about what it is about. From the national anthem played at the raising of the flag at 9am in the morning, through to male diners being required to... More

The exterior of the hotel is beautiful and there's 2 adult cats and a kitten onsite. Its also around 5-10 mins' walk to town. The breakfast and dinner is not buffet style. For dinner, there's both formal and casual dinning option. The formal dinning is located at the same place as the breakfast room and gentlemen need to wear tie... More

Nuwara Eliya is locally referred to as Little England and when you arrive in town you can immediately see why, especially the area around The Hill Club. You could easily be fooled into thinking you are arriving at a country lodge in the Lake District. It is a lovely town and The Hill Club evokes a long-gone era. But that's... More

If you want to go back to the old colonial days this is the place to be. It really hasn't changed much since those day. Set in beautiful gardens close to town. It's worth having an evening meal there in the formal dining room
