It Is a restored 19th century bungalow in the heart of Nuwara Eliya, overlooking the racecourse and Gregory lake. This magnificently designed bungalow with only two suites stands testament to passionately collected art, treasures and memorabilia. It is opulently decorated, from the two suites each with hand painted wallpaper to the impressive living room that holds two billiard tables and a fireplace every item has been handpicked and placed with care. The theme is immersion and relaxation, the willingness to explore the five rooms that make up the living spaces to enjoy art, to read a book, take time to converse with one another or just be in the cool crisp air of the hills. Guest are invited to experience SinhaGiri and the living spaces, to be left undisturbed to eat, drink and sleep according their wishes. Discreet service and privacy being the keywords here. The house can be booked as a whole or the two suites individually It is ideal as the ultimate private getaway in the hills.

We had read that staying in a historic bungalow was a great option for accommodation in Nuwara Eliya. But there are "bungalows" and then there is SinhaGiri... The spacious bungalow has been entirely remodeled into a fascinating "cabinet of curiosities" villa. Located above town, there are only two guest rooms. This means you truly feel like guest and not a hotel customer. Only two guest rooms... however an array of other rooms. From the swank lounge to the smoking room and from the seductive dining room to the huge great room, where I could image the coolest "Great Gatsby-esque" party being held! Each room has a stylish and eclectic decor, coupled with excellent luxury amenities. We were cooped up inside due to the rain, but didn't mind at all since it's such an incredible place. Tea in the lounge, then after the refined dinner you can retire the Great Room, next to the cozy fire or have a game or two of billiards. SinhaGiri is worth a trip to Sri Lanka in itself. Thank you for the incredible stay and we hope to be back soon!

The bungalow is located very conveniently on Haddon Hill, right opposite the Race Course. One the gates opens directly on to the main road, so it's not hard to find. It is quite unassuming from the outside. The lions outside the porch justify its name. The minute we stepped inside however, we were blown away! This is one of those houses where people will either love or hate the decor; no in between! The verandah has an almost life-sized statue of a black horse looking towards the race course. The decor got wilder (in a good way) as we went further inside. The corridors are painted in fire engine red and so was the sitting room and ceiling in the grand dining room. This choice of colour made more sense at night as it exudes warmth. The dining room is covered with paintings done in a pseudo-renaissance style, which strangely didn't look bad at all! The 2 bedrooms, Peony and Parrot have walls aptly decorated with peonies and parrots. The bedrooms are pretty big and comfortable with large beds. The bathrooms are tucked away discreetly in the back of the rooms and are quite spacious too. The large living room, made to feel larger by the ceiling-to-floor mirrors on one side, is a room with character! It's filled with many sofas and arm chairs. It was big enough to have a billiards and a pool table. The antique furniture, vases and stuffed animal heads made it feel quite colonial. There are also many statues of horses throughout the house, possibly to remind visitors that they are not too far from the race course. The amazing staff is led by the very able and charming Mr. Anuruddha, supported by the chef and other members. They were all extremely friendly, accommodating and efficient. The best person there was a lovely doggo called Blackie, who is a VERY GOOD BOY! We enjoyed having tea in the front sitting room with a fire roaring (it was cold and rainy during our stay). This room was very cosy and was adorned with paintings of flowers and photos. The morning room next to it facing the garden was more minimally decorated and was a great place to sit and read. The music room with the kimonos was also interesting. The large dining table made dinners feel very grand and it was very nice breakfasting outside on the porch, watching horses on the race tracks below. The food was overall good but it could be better. This being very close to the town and Gregory's lake fit in perfectly with our holiday plans. We absolutely loved staying here and felt slightly whimsical and eccentric ourselves during our stay. Highly recommend staying here, it's such a fun house!

If you are interested in something off the beaten path, this is it!!!! Incredible colonial style villa next to the horse race, beautiful views from garden and veranda. BUT the best is inside, library, music room, huge salon with 2 big billiard tables. Not to forget the fantastic dining room. And all this for only 2 majestic bed rooms. All rooms are decorated in a splendid way with art work, hunting trophies...... We enjoyed delicious sri lanka food, wonderful attentive service and couldn’t get enough from relaxing in front of one of the chimneys while always discovering more special objects, like the original kimono collection. Don’t miss this place

A friendly welcome in a small mediocre yellow bungalow. Sitting on 2 wornout chairs in a dark small entree, gave us an uncomfortable feeling at arriving,, But then we entered the rest of the house, which is amazing colourful, with endless art objects, enormous spacious rooms, decorated in amazing taste. Incredable good and attentive service, choice of home made cooking and cocktails every night. , and feels like your private house, where one relaxes after dinner in front of the fireplace, admiring the 99 interesting paintings and pictures , which are crowding the deep red painted walls . Breakfast on the terrace with far vieuws , connecting a large sitting room with 2 pool, and biljard tables. All in all a special place to enjoy. Royal feeling in grand bedroom with pleasant high bed and 7x7 feet large

Conveniently located in the heart of Nuwereliya made it easy to locate. My 4 course lunch was presented beautifully and tasted lovely too. SinhaGiri is fantastically decorated, and my evening there after was very pleasant. Staff were great as well. Shall be returning in September !
