The Lotus Villa sits under shady coconut palm trees on a long stretch of beach directly by the Indian Ocean in the, In the town of Ahungalla, South West of Sri Lanka. It was founded by Mr. Peter Huber, an Austrian, in 1982 as a private holiday house and a guest house with two rooms. Later, towards the end of 1980s, Lotus Villa was transformed and was registered as a hotel with twelve rooms and a restaurant which exclusively offered Austrian cuisine with Vienna Schnitzel, Kaiserschmarn and more. In 1992, Mr. Huber “discovered” Ayurveda. He was so inspired by the possibilities that Ayurveda provides for many health problems and therefore Lotus Villa started offering Ayurveda. Since 1994 Lotus Villa has exclusively been an Ayurveda – health resort. In 1997 Mr. Huber suffered two strokes in a very short time span. It was with Ayurveda that he was successfully treated. As the Ayurveda practiced here at Lotus Villa is of the highest standard and quality, in 1998 we were able to obtain the honour of becoming an Ayurvedic Hospital as a result of the quality of Ayurveda offered at Lotus Villa. Lotus Villa consists of 19 ground floor rooms, a restaurant and treatment rooms under the friendly yet profound management of Mrs. Huber and Mr. Sushan Huber, the only son of Mr. & Mrs. Huber. The higher management always conceptualizes to indulge valuable clients in authentic Ayurveda experience. Over the past 25 years with a great deal of commitment, the effort of all our employees and by providing high-quality treatment and individual care for our guests and patients, the Lotus Villa has in the last eleven years become one of the top Ayurveda Centers in Sri Lanka. Ayurveda practiced at Lotus Villa always focuses to treat the root cause of the disease rather than suppressing the symptoms. The commitment and the personalised service of our employees ensure the maximum relaxation of our clients during their vacation.

For the 3rd time I spent two maximum relaxing weeks in the Lotus Villa.
The medical team is competent and friendly, the treatments are very good and the food is excellent. The location is wonderful. A long beach invites you to go for a walk, fantastic sunsets. The rooms are very simple but clean and are made 2x a day.
The Lotus Villa is not a luxury resort with an Ayurveda Spa, but a true "clinic under palm trees" where you can experience the true value of Ayurveda. I will be back!

I like my stay in Lotus Vila resort in January 2020, it was nice and calm to stay, perfect for relaxation, good sleep, nice beach and ocean, very good and healthy food, ayurveda treatements, medicaments, perfect yoga each morning and tai chi and always always smilling stuff. I had got all I was expected and more, I met many new people who became my new friends from many parts of the world and I saw very nice places in Srilanka on the trips. Now I still feel full of energy and I still like the smile in my soul! Thank you everyone from Lotus Vila! You made my days perfect! 😁😁😁

Came for insomnia treatment, and guess what? Got so much worse....maybe cause I got the worse room exist, mean all the rooms are facing garden or sea, I booked and paid for sea view, and got the only room facing massages rooms, to the south.no sea or garden. giving the fact no air conditioning, the room was boiling hot, couldn't sleep a second for 4 nights. Thin mattress, stone hard cushion, after 2 nights started to have horrible back pains, couldn't seat any more. Food was not bad, but contain mainly vegetables and rice. If serving fish or chicken, normally 3 pieces, one centimeter in size. Once they brought a box full of lovely fish to the kitchen, one of the guests was looking wishfully on them, but it was for the personal. Not for us. For dinner we got some more steamed vegetables ....drinks are only warm water or warm fruit juice or tea. the taste of ayuverdic medicine was horrible and so is the herbal juice you had to drink all the time. In short: this is an hospital in an exotic location. Do not expect any comfort or joy. If you speak German it's going to be easier since most guests are German speaking. It means also it will be boring too. Not fun people to be with. One thing more, run one night out to eat fish on the beach, about 500 meters to the north about 3 fish restaurants. someone recommended to take the one between directly on the beach near the fishing boats, was lovely view but fish simply not eatable. They haven't clean it, and was totaly uncooked inside. Probably they were thinking stupid tourists ,why to even try...so I hope that with this post I would save at least one tourist money, and teach a little lesson to the locals...
About me, after 4 nights I run away from lotus villa and felt like breaking out of jail. Sleeping in normal hotel near city of Galle, hotel Long Beach, first night with a/c, soft cushion and mattress......could sleep the first night in Sri lanka. Lost a lots of money because lotus villa refused any refund, but for me it was the right thing to do.

One of my friend recommend this place for me. I had 17 days treatments .After the treatment i felt a real different. Comparing to other Ayurveda resorts this is bit expensive. But now i feel that it is worth paying that price. They prepare meals for each and every guest. Theyhave organic vegetable garden also...

Had 15 days treatment with real Ayurvedic products, which is selfmade in the garden, and the relaxation what i had was amazing.. I would like to Thank Mr.Huber for providing a great service. I was having depression, but Shirodara(A treatment) helped a lot to heal the pain i had. The service and the friendliness was superb. Only thing which was not fine was, that we couldn't swim in the sea, because it was too rough.

I have been here twice beofore and this year I decided to visit Lotus Villa togethere with my wife.
We stayied 2 weeks and we had a very good experience: staff very expert and professional offered us a relaxing ayurveda treatments.
The Doctors ( ladies) very professional assisted us whenever we needed their help: very gentle and always available. Thank you!
We came here mainly for loosing some kilos and at the end we happy with the result.
Therefore we did not complain about the "dimension" of the food served for our meals!
Anyway it is corrcet to make evidence about few things that this time I did not like too much:
- the high percentage of german speaking persons ( 90%) made the duration of meals at table little bit boring... since we do not speak German
- this time I stayed in one room were the privacy was very very very limited...
- the sun loungers ( beds) definetly need to be replaced!!!!
- the wi-fi system is always very much weak , as it was before..
Beside that everything was fine.
We'll hope to be back again at Lotus Villa.

I have to start mentioning that it is not a holiday resort. Before you decide to go, educate yourself about Ayurveda. Lotus Villa is certified Ayurveda hospital, where you will receive treatments, and the food based on your individual needs, as prescribed by the local ayurvedic doctor.

What you may like:
- The location is right on the beach, so there are rooms from which you see the ocean directly, and it is about 20 meters far.
- The swimming pool has warm water cca 29C, and does not smell like chlorine bath
- Food in the resort involves lots of vegetables and fruit, for meet you get fish and chicken. It is very tasty for most people.
- Staff is very friendly, always trying to help and deal with your individual needs
- The treatments include mostly massages with oil prepared based on your individual needs as prescribed by the doctor.
- All the medications and oils used in are prepared in the resort, the same goes for many of the vegetables used in the kitchen, which grow in the local gardens
- The resort is guarded 24/7, so you feel safe at all times.

What you may not like, and be aware of:
- Most of the staff members have very limited command of English, there are only few main long-term employees who speak well. Many of the therapist do not speak English, and therefore there can be many misunderstandings. This applies to any of your requests, or specific needs. For example, having problems with your neck spine, and not wanting them to massage this part of your body, or not applying so much pressure, can be a big problem.

- Most of the therapists do not understand the human body, and are only taught by learning the massage movements. Needless to say, they do not know enough about Ayurveda, and your individual needs in this respect.

- The separation between the resort garden, and the beach is with wire fence. Behind the fence many of the so-called Beach Boys are operating. Coming to the fence, and trying to sell you just anything. At times this can be very annoying as you try to relax, and they purposely walk back and forth to grab your attention. They are not shy to yell at you to come closer to the fence to speak to them.

- The beautiful long and wide beach Infront of the resort is covered with plastic. I was there in September, when the ocean is still rough, and all the mess from the ocean is brought by the big waves on to the beaches. Honestly, you feel like crying seeing that. Even more so, when you visit the local Turtle saving station, which is about 500 meter walk on the beach from the resort, and see the turtles who cannot submerge anymore, because they have eaten so much plastic. Problem is, Sri Lanka does not have functional waste management system, so all the garbage ends up in the rivers which bring it in the Ocean.

It needs to be said for the sake of the resort staff that they are all very nice people trying to make their living. They want to help you, and they do anything to make you feel better. I want to thank them for all the great care they have provided me with during my stay. You are all in my heart.

Message for the management:

- Paying your therapist and staff in general 70-90 EUR per month is a disgrace to them, and to your customers as well who pay you around EUR 200/day. You count with your customers paying tips, so your employees can live. The right wage is not the minimum people are willing to work for, but rather the maximum the employer is able to pay…
- Teach your therapists English, and do not try the isolate them from your customers.
- Teach your therapist the human physiology
- Educate your therapists more about Ayurveda. I heard from high ranked official at the resort, when I came up with all the above that, you do not teach them, because they all would want to be doctors. That is frankly very stupid approach.
- Do all the above, and your resort will be constantly full, because your employees and your customers will be happy.

I write this review hoping that things can improve for the sake of the customers, employees and the owners. I would love to come back, and see things have got better, because the potential is huge!
