Travelers' Choice
Inspired by the early European settlers from the 1800s, architect Bill Bensley designed Capella Ubud, Bali as a tribute to their spirit of adventure. Our refined tents are more than a hotel. Constructed within the trees and hidden from afar, it captures the imagination of those who seek a unique experience at the heart of Bali’s untouched natural surroundings. Within the camp are twenty-two one-bedroom tents as well as one two-bedroom lodge, all with private salt water pools.

    Stunning
We chose Capella after lots of research and were not disappointed. The style of the whole resort is simply stunning and was a delight. However the stars of our stay were the staff who were wonderfully friendly and helpful without exception. At check in we were asked for any special requests, dietary or otherwise. My wife is a vegetarian and there are a few vegetables she does not like so she asked if these could be omitted from her dishes. We were told that this would be shared with all restaurant staff. We had all our meals at the hotel and no mistakes were made at all. We enjoyed all our meals at Mads Lange restaurant especially breakfast! A highlight of our stay was our dinner at Api Jiwa! This was extremely special and is very highly recommended . This involved a ten course tasting menu, and despite there being many dietary needs amongst the guests it was executed flawlessly! Anyone not staying at Capella should try and book this , compliments to Chef Russo and his super team! We also recommend the Scenic 70’s tour and the Keliki Village rice paddy walk. Great fun and very educational re the local culture. The ‘Unscripted’ massage at the spa was sublime. The staff don’t wear name badges and it is impossible to thank them all individually but they all deserve massive praise. I do have to mention Rusdi, our culturalist, who made our stay so smooth and Deno in Mads Lange who was great fun. A couple of things anyone who intends to stay should know, Capella is on a hillside and the paths are steep in places and not for people with balance issues and if it rains it can get slippy. Flat shoes are essential and casual clothing is the style, no need to overpack! Overall, Capella was everything we thought it would be and more!
Dear Jim & Colette, Warmest greetings from your Capella home in Ubud, Bali. Thank you very much for sharing your valued impressions from your recent stay at the camp. We're forever grateful to you for taking a leap of faith and entrusting us with your invaluable holiday aspirations knowing what an incredible array of resorts are available within Bali. As you have so aptly described, the Stars of the show are our colleagues, they truly bring the soul into our camp. We’re delighted you enjoyed their warm hospitality and were able to experience their genuine care towards your wellbeing and enjoyment. It’s our greatest ambition to provide a personalized guest experience and we’re extremely pleased the attention of your culinary preferences enhanced your enjoyment. “Food is the most important meal of the day” and we’re delighted our dining offerings nourished you with happiness. There’s no greater love than the love of food and we’re overjoyed your dinner at Api Jiwa was so special. Chef Nic and the Api Jiwa Culinary Maestros will be especially pleased to know you appreciated their efforts and attention. The best path towards discovery is to lose yourself in the service of others. Thank you so much for acknowledging Rusdi and Deno who truly appreciate your recognition and enjoyed connecting with you. Whether it’s home cooking, mountain adventure, spiritual balancing or meeting incredible craftspeople, our colleagues possess an incurable enthusiasm to guide your discovery. We’re truly delighted you embarked on the Scenic 70’s tour and our Keliki Village Rice Paddy Walk and found these journeys so enriching. Thank you very much for highlighting the hillside we’re located on and packing “camp comfortable” attire. For those guests with mobility challenges, it would be our pleasure to arrange accommodation closer to the public area facilities which very often is a welcomed solution. Jim & Colette, we hope your warm recollections of Capella Ubud, Bali will always be a lasting connection and we would cherish the opportunity to welcome you back to create new and meaningful memories someday soon. Romantic Atmosphere but need some improvements on mask wearing by staff.
If it is not of the pandemic, The resort is the best I have experience in Indonesia. The nature, atmosphere are very romantic and suitable for honeymooners or to release some stress from work in the city. I think the resort is not suitable for the kids as there are not much activities for the kids except swimming. During our stay, we found out that some of the staffs did not use the masks while cleaning our tent and one staff forgot to put the mask while serving on us during breakfast. Most of the staff members use their masks below nose level, only covering their mouths. These are the things that makes us very uncomfortable during our stay. Other than, the stay is very pleasant and wonderful. Maybe we will come back after the pandemic where masks are not required anymore.
Dear brata2017, Warmest greetings from your Capella home in Ubud, Bali. Thank you very much for your recent stay with us and the invaluable feedback you have kindly shared. First and foremost, we would all like to express our sincere regret for the careless wearing of masks you encountered, this is certainly not the standard we aspire to and for this we apologize. Our team recognizes the essential nature related to all pandemic protocols within the camp and we will certainly endeavor to ensure our certified standards are delivered consistently. Our camp has some wonderful children’s activities, however with the tourism slowdown many of our favorite “Little Star” adventures are not available due our partners being closed. Within the camp, we have a variety of different experiences we try to curate for our young campers depending on their age and interest. On a bright note we are highly grateful you found Capella Ubud, Bali to be “the best you have experienced in Indonesia” and we would cherish the opportunity to welcome you back to create new and lasting memories. A Sensory New Moon Spa experience followed by delicious Sushi & Chilli Sin Carne!
If you wish to experience the famous and unique Capella Ubud but it's above your budget or fully booked, then book a special re-treat for half a day with a treatment at the Auriga spa and a meal at the Mads Lounge restaurant. Ask to have a tour and a peak at one of the fabulous 'rooms'. We got to see the only two bedroom lodge called "The Lodge'' out of the 23 they have (designed by Bangkok- based American architect Bill Bensley). The spa treatment takes place in a tent but it's not far from your average tent. All tents are 19th century themed (designed to honour The Age of Exploration, a time when European explorers set out to conquer the seas), and no trees were harmed during their construction. In fact a jackfruit tree trunk grows through the tent and the treatment room is built around it. The treatment myself and my friend were booked in for is called the The New Moon Ritual, which takes two hours. The spa uses the Organic Pharmacy products which is a London based holistic retailer. They say that the new moon is the time for renewal and introspection and to meditate on who you are and would like to become, establish strategies to reach your higher potential and to set new intentions and bring harmony. The healing and body nourishing treatment begins with a foot massage, followed by a sea salt scrub & deeply stimulating body polish. The therapist then moves on to a full body massage using rosemary and eucalyptus oils. You can hear the soothing sounds of the rainforest which makes the connection to the surrounding nature really magical. Feeling super relaxed we then headed to Mads Lounge (named after a Danish explorer of the 19th century) for a delicious lunch around a huge wooden table. I was bedazzled by the ceiling’s impressive painting design. Whilst in Bali one must drink the Indonesian jamu tonics of course and I was pleasantly surprised to see a classic British vegan dish 'chilli sin carne' on the menu as it's one of my favourites.
Dear soulseedtravel, Warmest greetings from your Capella home in Ubud, Bali. Thank you very much for your recent visit and sharing your wonderful impressions. Everyone needs to be pampered, whether it be for half a day, a full day or several days we would welcome the opportunity to revive our visitors. We’re so thrilled your visit provided you with such lasting memories. Our family of Capella Culturists are always excited to showcase the camp for our guests, introducing them to the history, the design and our vision. We’re glad you had the time to see our unique two-bedroom tent, The Lodge with it’s colorful design. As you realized, if your time doesn’t allow for an overnight stay, having a spa treatment at Capella Ubud is a glimpse into the tent experience with our Auriga Wellness offerings being conducted within one of three tents. Our wellness concept focuses on lunar energy and we’re overjoyed you discovered the New Moon Ritual which we hope, benefitted you with renewed energy. It’s so rewarding to read your attention to detail and appreciation for the variety of aspects built into the treatments, thank you very much for this. All this spa indulging builds ones appetite, and we’re delighted you were able to enjoy Mads Lange, our camp’s split level dining room with views over the Wos River Valley. Continuing the wellness journey, Jamu is a fantastic accompaniment to your spa rejuvenation and it’s wonderful you enjoyed this in addition to the epic “Chili Non Carne”. Soulseedtravel, we believe the most cherished memories in life tend to originate from journeys unlike anything we have ever done. Thank you for entrusting us with your precious time and we would cherish the opportunity of welcoming you back someday soon. In Appreciation, Mark

I really can't say enough great things about this property! From the moment we stepped foot on the property we were warmly greeted by a staff member who gave us a traditional balinese blessing, welcome drink and even welcome neck/shoulder massage! Wow. I was so impressed by the level of care and detail. It set the tone for the entire stay, we were already blown away. Now, the greatness didn't stop there. Our Capella Culturist was Rusdi who gave us a tour of the immaculate property. Every detail is carefully thought out and manicured. From the design, art, functionality, and comfort! We stayed in the "Explorer" themed tent which was absolutely stunning. I loved all the unique decor, "wallpaper" design, handcarved doors/windows, furniture and outdoor pool. The hotel had some of the best in-room amenities a luxury hotel could offer. Complimentary minibar (some alcohol was extra), some snacks, espresso machine, tons of water, and the daily turn down included the best chamomile tea+cookies! They even remembered (I made them aware ahead of time) that i mentioned my husband was lactose intolerant so we had dairy-free cookies waiting for us in our room! Also, staying in the tent is a nature lover's dream... we were fortunate to even get some midnight rain which was music to my ears. I want to make a special appreciation for the wonderful staff at Capella Ubud. Everyone we met (I wish I could remember everyone's name) was not only professional but so sweet, attentive, and friendly. I really enjoyed meeting and conversing with all of them because they always had the biggest smiles and no request was too big. The level of service they give the guests here is above and beyond! We had the chance to book their 1970 VW scenic tour and I can't recommend it enough! The tours they offer onsite are truly one of a kind because they curate the tours in house. So, when we set off on our tour we were taken to the most beautiful off-the-beaten-path woodcarving gallery, local village (to see how palm sugar and balinese pancakes are made), and picnic lunch overlooking a peaceful valley. I probably would have NEVER been able to create such an experience myself online or though destination guides, so I am insanely grateful! We also ate at all the restaurants on site for nearly every meal except lunch. The daily breakfast and dinner at Mads Lounge was soooooooooooo delicious. We tried Api Jiwa the first night and we loved the omakase meal so much! I still dream about every bite! I'll likely be writing a separate review for these 2 restaurants but they deserve the credit! We tried the complimentary afternoon tea and snacks during tea time and it was so good!! Lastly, they offer a nice complimentary cocktail hour that we took advantage of a couple times before dinner and the drinks were delightful. To conclude, when we had to leave, I was genuinely sad! Because I knew, Capella Ubud is one in a million and I would love to return one day. Thank you to everyone at Capella Ubud for the best hotel stay I could have ever asked for.

During my recent visit to Capella Ubud, I was treated to an array of delightful experiences, from a rejuvenating spa session to a delectable lunch and afternoon tea. I even had the privilege of attending a private yoga class in the morning, which was a wonderful start to the day. The architectural design and ambience of the hotel stood out distinctly. It effortlessly marries intricate attention to detail with luxury and unparalleled hospitality, setting it apart from other establishments I've visited in Bali. It felt as though I was ensconced in a lavish tent, right in the heart of Ubud's lush jungle, yet without compromising an iota on comfort and opulence. The culinary offerings were exceptional, but what truly stole the show was their Coconut Yogurt. It was a taste sensation, easily the best I've ever had. As for the spa, I indulged in a two-hour session that left me feeling revitalized in both body and spirit. The therapist's expertise was evident, and the premium products used rendered my skin velvety smooth and deeply hydrated. I eagerly anticipate my next visit to Capella Ubud! Stella

Beautifully nestled into the lush mountains of Ubud, Bali, the Capella is a really special property. The tents feel from another era (while having every modern amenity, and luxurious furnishings), the staff were like family with how kind and generous and helpful they were, and the whole experience was a perfect introduction to Bali - and specifically Ubud. There's a magic in the air - and on top of that, the food was extraordinary!!! Can't wait to go back!!

Capella Ubud is one of the most incredible hotels I've ever visited. It's a luxury hotel with all the amenities you would look for but with a most wonderful twist: it's unexpectedly beautiful, sustainable and it clearly cares about the community where it lives. The rooms are stand-alone luxury tents that remind you of a villa, with plenty of privacy, and no detail is overlooked. The service is attentive, friendly and helpful and the scenery around the hotel is unmatched. If you are thinking about it stay here, you will not leave disappointed.

Once you cross the threshold, you're propelled into a parallel universe where you're treated to a feast for all your senses. Won't divulge more lest I spoil the experience for you... But what I could say is that service is impeccable, food is scrumptious, and the massage is to die for... The main event was of course Dr. Lawrence Blair who enchanted us with his tails of this ever intriguing country... Then we were off to Labuan Baja where we boarded Kudanil, and what ensued was just a prefect narrative to the fairytale start! I had my doubts before joining this expedition... however, by the end of it, I was glad that I did... and hugged my way out of it... Highly recommend it ... only if you have zest for an adventure, with style!

Dear Momo O, Warmest greetings from your Capella home in Ubud, Bali. Thank you very much for pursuing your adventurous spirit and joining our first “Jungle to Sea Expedition” in partnership with the Kudanil Explorer. The archipelago of Indonesia has arguably one of the richest cultural and natural diversities found anywhere on planet earth and we’re thrilled you enjoyed the discovery. Your comfort and enjoyment are paramount, therefore we’re delighted you enjoyed our warm Balinese hospitality, scrumptious culinary offerings enhanced by the caring touch of our Auriga Wellness colleagues. To further elevate such a wonderful journey, Dr. Blair shares his extraordinary wealth of knowledge through animated storytelling which only he is capable of offering. We’re delighted you enjoyed engaging directly with him and recognizing his incredible ability. Capella Ubud and Bali is unique to the world on their own, however the Kudanil Explorer expands the horizon sailing the waters towards unimaginable experiences to destinations unknown. We’re thrilled to read your initial trepidation succumbed to hugs of joy! We’re forever grateful your zest for adventure guided you wisely and the souvenirs along the way will be lasting memories of a remarkable journey. Momo O, thank you for entrusting us with your precious holiday time and it would be our greatest hope to welcome you back someday soon. In Appreciation, Mark Swinton General Manager
