While Istana may be a high class accommodation establishment , it is also a bona fide A-Grade restaurant . It has cold beer and hot food , with the ability to be able to catch up with sports events from back home . There is a mix of western and Indonesian dishes available , all individually cooked . One taste will tell you this . To the uninitiated the front entrance may look like a private home , but walk right on in , past the pool and you will be warmly greeted by staff and owners . The fish curry was .Yumm .

This eas an extremely lucky find because of many things. The moment you walk into the hotel you are greeted by an imaculatory clean swimming pool, tasteful architecture and most if all friendly professional staff. Nyoman our host is wonderful and everything is relaxed and no problem. Im staying in the garden rooms which are fantastic and attention has been paid to the traveler's needs. ... Airconditining, fan, big bathroom, the most comfortable bed in Bali etc..... I will stay here now every time i return to this part of bali. Did i mention the beautiful garden and great food.....

We are a family of 5 adults and stayed in the 2 storey villa, absolutely lovely, clean, super comfy beds and gorgeous views looking out to the surf and the trees. Staff and hosts Mike and Komang are great, nothing to much trouble. We arrived early and were lucky enough to get our keys upon arrival. We hired scooters through the villa and Mike gave us great advice on where to go adventuring, he and Komang even came with us for part of the way showing us the school they've started which their gorgeous children go to. Stop and eat at the start of the street at the markets, so cheap and good. Food at Istana is also good, serving a lovely breakfast which is included. They have a great pool to cool of in and lovely gardens. Istana is a short walk to the beach. Highly recommended Istana Balian. Neil and Sue

We enjoyed our stay at isatna with our young family of 5 and 2. The service was excellent right from the start with our checkin with komang. Meals were geeat value as well as the drinks. The 2 bedroom villa was excellent, especially the views and the day beds. Our kids loved the pool! Only a short walk to the beach and the bamboo bar. A lovely part of bali.

Great restaurant and obliging friendly hosts. Michael owner and Bagus waiter. Great food. Not the cheapest in town but quality assured. Good place to watch footy and have a few Bintangs. Very clean amenities. Possibly cleanest place ive come across in Bali. A credit to the owner and family

Now and again my wife and I come across an absolute gem of a hotel which we feel we need too share. It’s been sometime since we last stayed in Balian on the West coast of Bali. Back then there was only one place to stay known as Bob’s Place, with a second place under construction. The main reason for visiting was to surf, a secret spot back then, the only people you shared the waves with were the ones you went with. There are now many and varied places to stay when visiting Balian, few as appealing as Istana Hotel. Your hosts Michael and Komang could not be more friendly or welcoming, ready to please at all times. Add their wonderful friendly staff into the mix, who do everything possible to make sure your stay is one you will always remember. Our room was beautifully appointed, the bathroom likewise. A view of the ocean from our balcony finished off a perfect setting. Breakfast with many choices is amazing, which is included in your daily room rate. Lunch and dinner menus are extensive, the meals we had in house were excellent. Just three short minute walk to the surf capped off a perfect stay. If you are looking for a quite relaxing holiday in Bali, then Istana Hotel in Balian is the perfect choice for a place to stay and relax. PS: if you happen to be a sports tragic like myself, Istana also screen all the weekend footy, another wonderful touch to make your stay complete.

Michael and all staff were fantastic. We booked a night there just to get some surf over 2 mornings. Drove there in the morning at 8am and because the place wasn’t full, the staff was so kind as to let us check in early (8!) and not only that, they actually upgraded us to the 2 storey villa which is absolutely gorgeous. We would definitely return here again on our next surf outing to Balian. The food at the restaurant is great as well and we ended up not only taking breakfasts there, but dinner as well. All around it was a most quiet, comfortable and deeply relaxing experience. Michael came around in person to say hi n check that everything was going good. Highly recommend.

Istana Balian is a peaceful retreat away from the maddening crowds of southern Bali. Komag, Michael and all the staff at Istana go out of their way to make you feel welcome and relaxed. The rooms are spacious and clean with all the facilities you should require. The restaurants menu comprises of a variety of Indonesian and Western Cuisine at very reasonable prices. Balian is how I imagine Bali would have been many years ago, lets hope it remains this way.

The accommodation was comfortable, clean and the perfect amount of space. The bar is fun, the food is fantastic too - best around Balian. We never eat western food and yet we are a burger and it was fantastic! I've never enjoyed one as much.

At Istana Balian we first thought that the food was a little expensive... But when we got the food it was all worth it. The portions were very large and full of flavour!!! I got the chicken wings.. They had an amazing honey & soy sauce which is my favourite food of all. It came with chips and salad and with a vinegary sauce. Very homely has a grey vibe. I would totally recommend for people looking for a sports bar or a nice family restaurant 😁
