Puri Ganesha's four very private one, two and three bedroom villas are situated on 400 mtrs of white sand & coral beach in the quiet, unspoiled fishing village of Pemuteran in the northwest corner of Bali. Near Bali's National Park, the village is a 3 1/2 hours scenic drive from the airport. As a member of Slow Food Bali, Diana's cuisine is prepared from organic, local ingredients wherever possible. No red meat, only chicken, seafood, salads and vegetable dishes are served. The food is simple, fresh and seasonal and the exciting dinner menu changes every evening. Meals can be served in the houses, the dining pavilions, in the little beachfront restaurant or by request on the beach by torchlight. Puri Ganesha is one of very a few resorts worldwide to offer an alternative purely 'rawfully good' menu and is a gourmet paradise for vegetarians and vegans who can experience totally different tastes and flavours! Diana's passion for unusual indigenous and locally grown ingredients has resulted in new and very unique 'living' and everyday menus!

If you want to relax by the sea, eat delicious food, sleep to the gentle sound of the waves, and do it all in one of the most beautiful villas around, this is the place for you.

There are only 4 villas on the resort, so there's never a crowd. Every villa is beautifully designed and decorated in the traditional Balinese style. The pools are huge and lovely, and the staff are kind and attentive without being intrusive in the least.

Diana herself (our fabulous hostess) is marvellous. Not only is she an amazing chef and culinary pioneer, she is an egyptologist and lifetime world traveller with a million stories to share. She can also organise outings suited to pretty much anything you're interested in, from yoga to cooking to snorkelling on the nearby coral reef preserve to trekking through the rest of Indonesia (and well beyond).

We were sorry to leave, and look forward to coming back next time we're in Bali.

Lovely!!!! My husband and I stayed at Puri Ganesha for several days at the end of March and it was a complete dream. The food was out of this world incredible. Our bellies were always full of the most delicious, nutritious cuisine imaginable. The staff assigned to our villa were so attentive and kind, always greeting us with a smile. The masseuse (who can be scheduled through Diana) had magical hands. The villa was so comfortable and private, with so many unique details. And of course the trio of furry creatures on site were a source of many conversations and laughs. We genuinely enjoyed our stay and the company of Diana and her team. Thank you!!!

We discovered an extraordinary place. One of our best experiences in Bali. The villas are magnificent, spacious, decorated and furnished with great taste.
Each with a swimming pool and a large garden.
The cuisine based on fish and vegetables is excellent. We ate all our meals there and each time we had creative and high quality menus.
Diana the owner (a fabulous person!) did everything to make our stay pleasant and easy by organizing excursions, transfers…
Many thanks for the snorkeling tour of the national park with Nono the best guide.
The staff at our house were attentive and responded to all our requests; a big thank you to Iliou.
A place where we could spend days and where we just want to come back.

Puri Ganesha has all the hallmarks of an amazing Villa experience in Pemuteran, when viewing the property online. However, the reality is somewhat different to the imagery on the website and booking services. Built in the 90s it is now in need of some serious maintenance to live up to the high daily rental rates. Yes, private and spacious with an old world charm, but a blocked toilet, dangerous electrical fittings and only a few minutes of dribbling hot water after running the shower for about 10 minutes is okay is in a cheap Homestay, but not acceptable at over $400 per night. The food was adequate but not one meal came as stated on the menu. A Salad Nicoise described as having fresh tuna and garlic roti landed on the table without both items. It's just tired and very expensive for what is offered and there are far better alternatives in Pemuteran for less than half the price. After cancelling early and moving to another, more comfortable, luxury Villa accomodation ( and at a third of the price) we were met with angry emails from the Owner who punctuated her letters with a plethora of passive aggressive exclamation marks, which I can only assume was her way of yelling her annoyance. Could have been great but sadly, was not.

Puri Ganesha is a hidden gem on the northwest coast of Bali. I spent four days in paradise, being served the most incredibly fresh food, made from local ingredients. The decor of the villas and common areas are impeccable, using Balinese art, fabrics, and antiques exploding with colors and stories. The pools are the perfect temperature for cooling off in the Bali sun, and a walk on the beach at sunset is an experience you'll never forget. The owner, Diana is delightful, and she teaches cooking classes in an open air pavilion where her spices and fresh ingredients are carefully laid out in gorgeous baskets and banana leaves. I learned so much about Balinese cooking and the numerous sambals used to flavor every dish. Diana's specialty is vegetarian and vegan, but we also cooked fish and chicken dishes that I've already started making at home. If you need direction for other things to do in Bali, Diana is an expert and can make your entire Balinese experience one you will never forget.

We loved everything from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The charm of the place, the Villa, the property owner, Diana, as extravagant as great, and its exceptional cuisine. His team, perfect. His encyclopedic knowledge of Bali, his helpfulness and availability. We spent a dream week there, relaxing by the pool or in the pavilion by the beach, Things to do with Diana, from snorkling, to a ceremony in a temple... Everything was perfect!

I was reluctant to write a review because Puri Ganesha is one of those places that you don't want anyone else to find out about. But then again, it really deserves to be enjoyed by as many people as possible.

There are only four or five villas along a stretch of beach along Bali's little-known north coast. All of them are huge and beautifully decorated, with about a third of an acre of garden each. That means complete privacy, your own stretch of beach, your own large stone swimming pool and various places to sit or eat where no-one will disturb you. Even when you're there, you can't quite believe how luxurious it is.

The owners are fantastic too. They picked us up in Legian for the two hour drive north and learnt more about Bali in that time. then any previous visits or guidebooks. And the atmosphere in the hotel is more like staying at someone's private estate.

Oh and the food: it's amazing and very good value. Plus you can eat whenever and wherever you like. There are two members of staff on hand just for you.

Enjoy!

Are you a bit fed up with the global "luxury" craze, and the artificiality and soulless splendour it engenders? I am.

Real luxury is comfort, ease, taste, style, charm, authenticity, care, service, gentility, affability, respect, understanding . . . and a lot of other things that can't be simply bought or manufactured. They can't be faked.

This is the kind of luxury that Puri Ganesha delivers in spades. I've stayed at Puri Ganesha four times, and each time the experience was even better than the one before. Far from being bored of the place, I am at risk of becoming addicted to it. Here are some little vignettes to help you understand:

SPACE
uxury is . . . Only four villas, right on the sea, each with its own vast lawn rolling out in front right to the water's edge. The villas are huge, with space for a convivial party, or for ambling around barefoot and idle like you do at home (if you've got a big home). I found myself choosing a different space, daybed, bed, or pavilion to loll in depending on the mood and time of day. And didn't even have a chance to loll in all of them. You can truly relax in these villas, plenty of room to breathe, stretch, hide out from your companion(s), or hang out with them.

CARE
The staff are really lovely, natural, no putting on airs. They know their stuff, but don't make a big deal about it. They anticipate what you might need. After snorkelling (fantastic) and walking on the beach, I came back and plopped on a lounger by my pool, pulled my book out of my bag, and as I looked up, there was I Luh (one of the two butlers for my villa), gliding across the lawn with a big hand-blown glass full of iced spring water with a slice of lime. How did she know? I hadn't even seen her! This is typical at Puri Ganesha. You feel like the staff are your own private retainers, who've known you for dogs ages.

CHARACTER
Speaking of dogs, they have three at Puri Ganesha, and they are lovely. These are diamond dogs, chic canines; a passle of purebred dalmatians, with excellent manners, clean as a fresh bedsheet, and full of character. Puri Ganesha is all about character. Good character. I hate places that get all "theme-y" and try to fake "character." You've got it or you don't. Puri Ganesha does. Like the character of a big old country house in Europe . . . it's in the woodwork, the history, the people, the place, the taste, the choices. Can't fake that!!!

WELL BEING
The food is fantastic. Diana, the owner, has just finished a cookbook, having been inundated with recipe requests. What comes from the kitchen is healthy, fresh (how can they do that when they are hours from the nearest supermarket?), innovative, delicious, plentiful, cleverly combines eastern and western palettes. I had a three-cheese ravioli to die for, with an indescribable sauce, rich but not overly so. I had grilled salmon salad, cleaned the plate. Lemon crumble cake. A chocolate dessert (moleaux?) that was divine. Amazing salads. A lot of choice, too. I enjoyed the food and had three meals a day, but left feeling lighter, healthier, energized. How do they do that?
On the well-being topic . . . massages here are excellent. A local masseuse named Mr Putu does the massages, in your villa, or a dreamy open-air pavilion beside the sea (nice sound of waves). He is a gifted therapist, has a natural intuition about how to customise the massage to provide just what you need. How did he know exactly which muscles of mine were tired from driving?
The level of relaxation and quiet is also a boon for well being. The whole place makes you settle down and irons out all the mental wrinkles and stress you arrive with. Amazing. Also there's a whole range of raw food (gourmet style) in case you want to do a few days of cleansing and clearing. Or just pig out on the ravioli and chocolate desserts . . . and good wine, which is hard to come by in Bali. Nice wine selection, and prices are fair. I found one nice bottle (Geoff Merrell Cab) that was cheaper that it is in the supermarket near Kuta (must be cases Puri Ganesha put down a few years ago). Generous pours on the cocktails, too, and they'll make them just like you want them. This is the most civilised hotel outside of Bali's tourist areas.

DIANA THE OWNER
She is wonderful, intelligent, educated (very), affable, broad minded, dignified, hilarious, generous, sensible, practical, whimsical, human. In the great traditions of Maisons d'Hote, hats off to this hostess. She's there, but she's never in the way, you get total privacy, don't even need to see her at all if you choose, but there she is for those who wish to know their hostess, having a coffee in her little atelier, or rattling the ice in her tropical cocktail in a shady corner of the restaurant.

LOCATION
This is a corner of Bali that must be experienced. The snorkelling and diving at Menjangan Island, nearby is world-class. The peace is perfect, I never slept better in my life (great sheets and pillows BTW). The weather is splendid. When it's raining cats and dogs in South Bali (half of the year, Nov-Apr) and steamy as a sauna, Puri Ganesha in Pemuteran is fresh and dry with sunshine sparkling on the sea. Of course there is nothing nothing nothing to do in the evenings. But Diana will point you in the right direction to go south to Seminyak and party. She knows exactly where, and will send you off to shake your booty down south if you need to. Me, I relish the silent nights in Puri Ganesha, as I live in a busy, urban, trendy area at home. There's a mysterious temple a few minutes' drive away. And the mysteries of East Java (rarely touristed) are not far, nice trips can be arranged (short ferry hop away, no need to risk domestic Indonesian air carriers!).

CLEANLINESS AND MAINTENANCE
I also want to mention how the place is kept so clean and well maintained. That's not easy, when it's so full of charming natural materials, old carvings, antiques, and details. Takes real care and discipline on the part of the staff and management. I hate "charming ethnic" places where the "charming ethnic" means "grubby dirty". Puri Ganesha is NOT like that at all. The rustic terracotta floors are smooth and squeak beneath your feet. Pillows and cushions (bajillions of them) are always puffed, fluffed, fresh . . . and a rarity in Bali . . . NOTHING anywhere smells of mildew. It's a miracle. Even the top top five star plus resorts have the mildew issue. Kitchen is also very clean and well-managed, no worries about raw or salads here (rare in Bali to be able to have such confidence). Bathrooms are full of charm . . . not full of scum (also rare in Bali).

Those are but a few little notes. I don't usually post things on websites or write reviews, but this is something special.

I read the review before me, and couldn't fault a single word they said, so I will repeat the sentiment, with my own - 'DITTO'.

I've travelled far and wide, and never have I experienced such tranquility.

Diana and Gusti are the perfect hosts, and ensure that everything you could possibly wish for is catered to.

It needs to be repeated, that the food here is THE BEST IN BALI. One of the hardest things about Bali, is that you are in beautiful surrounds, with food that isn't quite there. I enjoyed one of the best curries I've ever tasted, and Diana only sources the freshest, most delicious produce.

Please take the time to visit this divine piece of heaven. You will miss out on enjoying a truly beautiful experience if you don't.

We spent one week at Puri Ganesha Estate. We came across it as we wanted to relax away from the tourist masses. North Bali seemed perfect for that purpose, good scuba diving sites were also nearby. One has to be aware of the fact that a ride to Puri Ganesha is an adventurous one, because you will need at least 4 hours for ca. 150 km. The roads are fool of holes, people, animals, etc so the driver has to be skilled if you want to arrive in one peace  No worries, the driver was great even though we occasionally thought we won’t get to Puri Ganesha alive.

So now to Puri Ganesha – it is a small but beautiful estate, where you can really relax and enjoy. You get a Balinese couple, which is responsible for the villa at your disposal. They take care of your drinks, snacks, meals and other things. If you are not used to having staff at home, it may feel a bit awkward. But they make it possible to relax fully and forget errands, problems and other small annoying things. The villa itself was cute, nicely decorated. The big bed with sleeping net was always perfectly made.

The only thing that made us give a 4 instead of 5 star rating was the aircon in the bedroom. It was functional, but badly fixated onto a window front. For that reason it was impossible to have it running fully and have a quiet room, because the whole villa wall was chattering. We tried to insert paper to make it quieter, no way. In the end we slept at 28°C, which was not pleasant if you like it cool during the night. Not to mention a giant gecko hanging from the bedroom ceiling every night… (and your imagination of it falling down onto your bed). But geckos you have to accept in tropical regions.

Open bathrooms needed also some time to get used to. During the day no problem, but in the evening the “nature” including all the bugs and other little scary creatures crawled out… It is important to know always to put the light on before you stick your hand somewhere.

Food was great. The local cook made anything you wanted, from European to Thai and Indonesian food. And of course, nothing without a half liter Bintang beer. Cheers. Every time we took a drink before dinner at our villa, the animal world was watching us from above the lamps (lizards, geckos, giant crabs, millipedes)…

The pool was just perfect and also a little rice barn next to it, so that you do not really need a beach. If you want to swim in the ocean, you can always walk down the beach to find an entrance between the reefs. Most of our free time we spent diving, which we found absolutely stunning (look for Amanda & Adrian at Reef Seen Divers). Between dives we relaxed by the pool or were having a snack made of local ecological produce.

All in all great place. One week was more than enough. We would definitively like to come back and experience this wonderful “peace” again.

The villas are more like homes. They have several bedrooms and bathrooms. The one I stayed in had an large bedroom and bathroom with a lovely balcony upstairs. Perfect for you and your husband. Downstairs had another large bedroom and bathroom as well as a kitchen and dining area. Your friend would be equally pampered in this space. There are private full sized swimming pools with each home. Puri Ganesha is one of my all time favorite places to stay. The food is fresh and delicious. The homes are on the beach and have great views. You will have to contact Puri Ganesha for rates which were more than fair for such a special experience.
