The Ayung Resort is a breathtaking, mystique and unique lifestyle hotel, perched high up on the bank of a mostly untouched tropical mountain rainforest gorge, in the traditional Balinese village of Payangan Ubud, surrounded by the gentle, spiritual tranquility and pace of Balinese life. Along this serene 8 hectares rain forest domain runs The Ayung, Bali’s most sacred mountain river. In the rocks of the hotels pathways and along it’s 600 meters long riverbank fronting the Ayung Resort, 250 of the finest Balinese Stone Carvers have painstakingly worked, for over a 2 year period,to carve the spectacular Hindu mythologies, Ramayana and Mahabharata amongst others. These stone carvings have become the most sought after photo opportunity of the hotel.

The location, about 30/40 minutes out of Ubud, is fairly isolated but has some truly outstanding views across the treetops from all areas. It is true feeling of staying high in the jungle.

As we’d stayed in Ubud for a few days before arriving we didn’t leave the hotel during our stay although regular shuttles were available. We enjoyed the isolation for a few days, took the walk down towards the river or chilled alongside the swimming pool. It was all very relaxing!

The hotel does customer service really well and we felt the restaurant food was of a particularly high standard. Breakfast was outstanding and very plentiful.

Little additional touches of customer service were gratefully received - the little wooden carved gifts left each evening on the bed a really pleasant surprise.

We did feel our room - we were in the block just behind reception - whilst spacious was in need of some updating and felt a little bland in its decoration. It was however clean and the room teams did a great job each day.

For a few days of relaxing following the busyness of Ubud this was an ideal getaway.

Stayed 3 nights at this resort with my daughter and wished we could have stayed longer. From the welcome and check-in the whole stay was amazing, with 5 star service from every member of staff, the people working there are so lovely and work very hard to ensure you have everything you need or want. The hotel/ accommodation was spotless, the food was of an extremely high standard and the restaurant views of the rainforest were just stunning.
You see amazing butterfly’s and birds, we had a monkey and her two small babies by the pool one day as well as seeing squirrel type animals in the trees.
The hotel offers a complimentary afternoon tea every day 3-5 ands it’s really worth making the effort to go to the restaurant as it’s a range of small bite cakes etc..
The resort is hilly but they offer a buggy pick up from rooms and back again to transfer you to hotel facilities, you just call the main service desk, we found this was an excellent service and they always responded immediately. There are no lifts in the buildings so not good for disable people or those who find stairs difficult.
They also offer free shuttle bus to Ubud centre approx 15 -30 mins ride , this goes approx 4 times a day . If you want to go in the evening they will arrange a taxi at extra cost . They also run morning yoga classes and have Spa services and gym. All in all I hope I get the opportunity to go back in the future as this is an away from it all resort and offers complete relaxation, a little piece of paradise.

We were at Agung Resort to celebrate my husband's birthday and it was a day to be remembered thanks to the staff of Agung resort. We had a floating breakfast and were offered a birthday cake, a guided walk to the rice fields (1 hour ; was very short). High tea in the afternoon followed by a spa treatment and in the evening the Romantic dinner at the villa. We asked for a flower arrangement in the pool and it was just awesome and perfect. We will never forget. This must have been the most romantic evening in our life. Many thanks for the professionalism !!
The pool villa was just magnificient with the carved walls and antiques. A good coffee machine with milk frother for cappucinos, a television that actually worked and also had the sports channels, a beautiful four poster bed etc etc. The complimentary high tea in the afternoon was also outstanding and the setting with the herbal potions was a refreshing idea.
And then the restaurant : what can I say .... top notch (Michelin star quality). Best food and attentive restaurant staff we had during our many Bali travels.
We will definately come again !
Overall the real 5 * experience and service.

My husband and I stayed at the Ayung Resort Ubud at the end of December 2019. Disappointing!
We were booked in for 9 nights but ended our trip early staying only 3 nights. Our room was immersed in the rainforest which had minimal view, mildew on the trees outside main windows and a view of weeds. No windows to open and very large monkeys everywhere so required a buggy to get around resort as advised not to walk as they weren't friendly. Our bathroom reeked on cigarette smoke and monkey urine in the main room. The bath leaked so could only bath for a few minutes before all the water leaked out. The couch was stained and the room unclean.
We are not allergy sufferers but this room made us both unwell.
The pools are in desperate need of renovation.
Service was fine, food was ok including the afternoon tea provided.
Jam was placed on the breakfast tables in the morning which attracted the bees and most guests were fighting to shoo them away.
We asked to change rooms after the first night but had to unfortunately wait out a second night before downgrading to a higher room to escape the mildew and mould.
This resort is 20-30 minutes from central Ubud and there is only 1 restaurant provided breakfast lunch and dinner.
We have stayed in Ubud and Payangan many times over 15 years and will not be back to Ayung.

Stayed for 3 nights in a 2 bedroom villa of the hotel. Great location of the villa itself just over the cliff and with great view over the small river and the jungle above.
Room itself is huge and well worth the money they charge. Private pool is also big enough.
Bedrooms are very spacious with nice beds and beddings and huge en suite bathrooms with separate shower.

Villa is located on the very edge of the resort, so its up and down hill walk to the reception, but the hotel buggy is available 24hrs to take you there and back.

The only thing we were a bit disappointed with was the food overall:

1. We arrived quite late and opted to have in room dinner on the first night. First of all the food that arrived was a bit cold and until set up and ready to eat even colder.
2. My mother had a birthday so there were 2 bottles of champagne brought as courtesy from hotel. They have opened one and poured in 3 glasses, but when the staff left, that bottle disappeared :)
3. Breakfast is ala carte even if included. The choice of main course was good and tasty, but cold cuts portions were ridiculously small. Literally a slice of salmon or 2 slices of salami on a very small plate.

The view from the restaurant is to die for though :)

We did not go out of the resort at all, but they do have a shuttle to Ubud Market several times a day.

Tried the spa as well, which is fairly priced and very nice experience.

That this was our fourth visit says it all. We stayed over the Christmas period and the experience was first class. Not only did the visit reaffirm our previous positive views, but strengthened the idea that this is one of Bali's gems. The attention to detail, the quality of the meals - especially the Christmas banquet - the catering to special requests and even to the surprise Christmas gifts at the bedside for the four nights we were there, made this a memorable occasion. The staff were obliging and friendly, the location and grounds spectacular as were the jungle views. For peace and tranquility there can be few places in Bali that can better the Ayung.
Appreciated the gymnasium which helped resolved some of the problems associated with good eating. Also appreciated the free shuttle service to and from Ubud, but would suggest that the last return to the Ayung from Ubud should be extended to say 7.00pm.

We absolutely adored this resort. One the best resorts/hotels I have visited. It had everything.

Set in a stunning valley with beautiful views, the resort is engulfed by a gorgeous forest. The sights from our villa and the restaurant are breathtaking; you could look into the greenery for hours and still feel it wasn’t enough! The sounds of the forest, the animals, the sun, it’s just beautiful.

The villa has beautiful carved wood panelling, lots of space, great bed, large bathroom and a long balcony with a beautiful little private pool. The seclusion and privacy of the villa was exactly what we needed. The villa is really quite wonderful, we really enjoyed its beauty, space, size and it’s location in the forest with a wonderful pool. So much fun seeing monkeys run and jump around the villa as well and they are perfectly safe.

The food was very good too. Breakfast was delightful. Not a buffet but rather order table service of the highest quality food. Stunning to look at and equally tasty. The pasta was also excellent for lunch. Dinner was nice as well albeit on the pricey side.

The staff were beyond excellent. Incredibly kind, caring, courteous, pleasant and incredibly helpful. Always smiling and very respectful. Every single one of them was just such a pleasure to know and speak to. They organised trips and tours for me and were always checking up on us and making sure we had what we needed. They work very hard and I was incredibly grateful to them all.

All in all, a truly lovely resort with brilliant staff, beautiful accommodation and breathtaking views that will make you fall in love with Ubud and Ayung Resort.

The transfer is too expensive more than in twice time and you have no possibilities to use a local one.
The breakfast was great and the food also. Tea time was excellent but small portions for two. Monkey is aggressive on territory.

Lovely hotel in ubud, it’s big, has plenty to see, friendly staff and good food.

This doesn’t get a 5 star as the slightly worn out (but it’s a jungle, maybe I’m being harsh). Also, the deco is weird outside but also grand. Some might like the style :)

The room is was in was big and very clean. And the mini bar is free (no alcohol) and there is a coffee machine :)

Breakfast is top notch and for dinner I recommend the lamb cutlets - it was so delicious!!!!!

The gym was fairly big and has good equipment - it’s good as any European hotel.

Theres free yoga and local tours. And Hhhh watch out for those bloody monkeys :)

Although I saw the private villas, I'm not sure how private the pools are. I suppose the fact that I couldn't see the pools, may mean that they are private?

Ubud is quite far from the coast and traffic is terrible. We started out on the coast (Nusa Dua, Seminyak) and it took us two hours by car to get to our Ubud hotel. I'd recommend staying on the coast if you want beach then heading to Ubud, or rent a car for the day and have driver take you around.
