This is a copy of the email l sent to the owner/ manager of Marinos Place after returning home from Bali. I have yet to receive a reply. My friend and l had booked Marinos Place 2th till 9th June. It was booked through Island Villa Club and or Dluxe Villas. Please see receipt attached. We had both stayed at Marinos once before which was 4 years ago. Upon checking in and going into our room we were very upset and horrified at the conditions of the room. It was very dirty. The sheets were grey and stained the bed head was stained the shower and toilet area were dirty. The air conditioner wasn’t working very well. There were many reasons we were not at all happy with the state of the room. We were both not prepared to stay in such conditions. As it was too late to go elsewhere that day we stayed the night. Left the lights on and slept on our sarongs and beach towels. The room also smelt. Because of the conditions we were scared. The next morning we moved to another hotel. As we had only stayed one night we asked to be refunded for 6 nights , it was because of the poorly maintained conditions. The next day your workers spent most of the day cleaning the room. Which confirmed that the conditions weren’t acceptable. The people that were moving into the room 9th June were contacted and told it was available for them when they arrived in Bali. That was 6th June. On Monday 4th June we were told we would get 50% refund. We didn’t think that was reasonable but were prepared to accept it as we couldn’t stay there. Then Tuesday 5th we were told no refund. As people were moving in 6th June we should have been refunded 3nights. We paid for the nights and so did the people that moved in. Therefore you received double payment for three nights. This is not the way to do business when you rely on the tourist trade and with social media news can travel very quickly all over the world. A reasonable outcome would be 50% refund which is the same amount that you double booked. We had done the right thing by all concerned and paid our entire booking fees upfront in February. A person who booked another room who also moved out because of the conditions only paid for one night as a deposit and didn’t lose any money at all. How is this right. All hotels in Bali and everywhere in the world need to be maintained and kept in an acceptable standard. This is common practice in the tourism industry. It seemed to us nothing had been done in the 4 years since our previous visit. Looking forward to a response in the near future

Dingy place. Room very dark & obviously had some sort of problem as full of damp. Funny smell and terrible humid feel to it. All my items smelled and were damp after staying here. Even my book pages started curling!! Had not slept at all as aircon is not powerful at all and had to request extra fan. Was glad to checkout after 2 nights.. If we hadn’t had our flight same day I would have had to find laundry service to clean all clothes! Would not recommend. Towels look worn and everything you touch is damp & sticky.

If you need to stay in such a long period, need to cook your own food, need large and functional space in your room but the location also be a main consideration then Marinos might be the answer. This place located near to the famous Legian main street, it only takes few minutes to reach the street and you can find several place to eat nearby with a very affordable price or even to put your laundry bag. The service also enough for you to do the things you need such as a clean towel, room cleaning etc, as long as you ask ;-) Don't expect a very clean space or tools in your room or swimming pool, for me it's all just enough and nothing more. My room was at the corner right in front of the pool, and it needed so much effort for me to lock or open the sliding door and the part of ceiling at the front door almost fell out and need to be repaired. The Air conditioner didn't function well and I had to open my door even at the night time to get the fresh air because the door is the only air circulation we had. So, if you spend lots of time outside then this place might be the one you can choose in a long period. But, my suggestion is before you stay there just make sure that everything you need will be functioned well otherwise you will be regret staying there.

This is the second time we have stayed at Marinos Place. Last time our room was on the second floor but this time we stayed downstairs in a room with a kitchen. The room is large with a couch area to watch TV. large comfortable double bed, small dining area with separate kitchenette and bathroom. The property is elderly and could do with some minor maintenance however the room was spotlessly clean and kept in that condition by the wonderful staff. The manager, Yuti, is on site Mon-Sat and is extremely helpful with any problems. It is a good idea to email him with your ETA so he can turn on the frig and air con. We will definately be back- much better than being stuck in a bedroom at twice the price

How long ago were the previous reviews? My room looked NOTHING like the photos. The 1st room (room #2) was completely filthy, the one person that was there to check me in agreed and placed me in another room (room #3). Both rooms smelled like someone's moldy wet basement. I was in shock. I have pictures of the moldy walls and peeling paint. If someone had told me there was a flood recently I would believe it. Okay so I dealt with the room because thankfully I was only staying one night. The AC worked well and there was good wi-fi and good TV. Next morning. There was no mention of breakfast when I checked in. So I stepped outside to ask about breakfast. The staff that was there spoke little to no english. I tried as hard as I could to communicate with them because I also needed transport to the airport and reservations made. No such luck. I am a resourceful person, so I figured it all out on my own. Although breakfast was supposed to be included....I paid for breakfast at a nearby hotel and was on my way for the day. I would not recommend this place. They really need to fix rooms #2 & #3. The photos are very old. Even most of the reviews are old, which I didn't notice until after I booked. Also, I forgot to add they were supposed to pick me up from the airport, after waiting over an hour, I just hopped a taxi.
