Beware the Bali Bintan Bogans - shameful.
Chose this hotel as it was new and in the area we like to stay in. Normally stay at The Haven. Went for a cheaper price this time and was sucked in by the images on both the wholesale travel & hotel websites which mis-represent the Deluxe Pool Access Room as having a timber deck with the pool right outside your door - not so. None of these rooms have the decking leading from your sliding door into the pool. Some of the rooms on this level have some concrete and then the decking into the pool. I flagged this on arrival and was met with politely "All the rooms on this level are Deluxe Pool Access Rooms madam." Other guests parade up and down here day and night. Guests with these rooms are led to believe that the 2 sun beds outside their room are perhaps for their exclusive use. This is not accurate. If I list the good and bad points you can see which ones matter to you and make your decision accordingly. Good: value for money, good location, great sandwich bar just outside called Swich, proximity to a variety of dining options and the beach, friendly, helpful staff, clean, clean, clean, aesthetic appearance and pool, fab rooftop terrace for sunset drinks, good telly, unbelievably comfy bed & pillows, good housekeeping and turndown service. Bad: Breakfast. Bali coffee even when you request a machine coffee. NOISY hotel. Perhaps the walls are made of cardboard? You can hear someone drop an earring on the floor in the room above. Furniture is moved all night. Guests with their wheelie bags trawl up and down the corridors outside your room each night from 1900 (departures) - 0200 (arrivals). The rooms don't have any storage space. I have attached some pics. The furniture is there but if they had just put in some drawers in the bedside table and the luggage rack and the cupboard, you could unpack. Wet towels and clothing were hung outside on the trellis which wasn't the best look. Bogans: I guess due to the price this place was colonised at certain times during the week with the dreaded 'Bali Bintang Bogan' who can be recognised by their (male) Bintang singlet, boardies, stubbie cooler, tattoos, piercings, wraparound sunnies (worn day and night) bald head with a goatie for the older version, huge guts, smoking rollies. During their 9 hour drinking sessions in the pool and after consuming all that Bintang they don't leave the pool to go to the toilet. They were accompanied by the similarly proportioned female version (braided hair) who used the same amount of foul language as their fellas. Of course, they shout all day and night, come home hammered and while we were there at 0400 a window was smashed out on the 3rd floor and shattered right into the pool which closed the pool for half the next day. In addition to this clientele, the hotel is primarliy designed for the Asian market, hence the small room size. The roooms aren't small if you are used to living in Asia and are small in stature. Although there is an egg chef, the breakfast choices are skewed towards Asian choices (dim sums, dumplings, cabbage rolls, noodles, rice) and there is no Level 4 or room numbers that end in 4 - as that is an unlucky number in Chinese culture. Their big groups arrive by bus late at night and shout and laugh and take flash photography right outside all the guest rooms. I got fed up one night and went out and told them to shut-up. It is such a shame for this resort as the staff try really hard to work with what they have at Ananta and it is our fellow guests who tarnished our holiday experience meaning that we wont return. It's Villa time...................

good value for money, excellent staff
I stayed at the Ananta Legian for 6 nights with 3 girlfriends. We all had our own rooms, 2 of us had the deluxe rooms (no balcony) and the other 2 had pool access - opens to the pool so you can get some fresh air into the room as the other rooms have locked windows. The rooms are nice, beds are very comfortable - we did need to request thinner pillows as the ones on the bed are really thick - but this was no problem. The concierge was very helpful booking us restaurants every night - highly recommend restaurants: La Luciola, Sarong, Mama San, Ku De Ta and Potato Head beach club to hang out during the day. The pool bar staff: Kembar, Bogha and Putra are fantastic and a lot of fun, and the breakfast staff especially Julie and another guy whose name starts with 'Wir...' I just can't remember but they were so friendly. Breakfast was really quite good - I stayed on a few extra nights at another hotel and their breakfast was not half as good. At Ananta every morning there were different selections on the buffet and the omelettes were great. Location is very good - 5 minutes from the beach and very close to shopping. We did find that we were taking a taxi every night to Seminyak where all the 'cool' restaurants are but this only costs $2 or 3 AUD and takes 15 mins, so it wasn't a hassle - and we saved a lot of money staying at Ananta. The pool is ok, we had no problem getting deck chairs, it doesn't get a lot of sun. Overall I was very impressed. I did not find the hotel to be noisy - the roof top bar wasn't open, and to be honest there are so many lovely beach bars like Ku De Ta or Potato Head that I wouldn't waste my time staying at the hotel bar. Thank you to all the staff at Ananta Legian I really enjoyed my stay and would love to return to your hotel.

A value for money hotel which makes the most of its limited space
The rooms are impeccably clean, as are all the facilities, although given the aforementioned space issues don't expect to be hosting any parties in your room. The breakfast was satisfactory and varied, if not exceptional and we didn't eat in the restaurant outside of breakfast which is probably telling. The service was first class, with a warm and friendly staff, and a lovely rooftop terrace bar which no-one else in the hotel seemed to use. The downsides were a frustratingly temperamental wi-fi connection, a pool which only saw the sun for half the day and the location a little too far from Seminyak (a frustrating taxi journey necessary each night) - although this is a churlish complaint given the very reasonable price.

We booked here as a start to our Bali family holiday because it was within our budget and it had a rooftop bar. The website shows this bar online in its pictures, some trip advisor reviews mentioned it and when you drive up to the front of the hotel there are big posters promoting happy hour at the rooftop bar. Only thing is there isn’t a roof top bar, not anymore the space isn’t even under renovation there is no bar just a padlocked area of nothing this bar has been closed for sometime. To mislead people by promoting and taking your money and your booking without mentioning that the roof top bar is no more, is damn right misleading and DISHONEST! That’s why I give Ananta one star along with the fact that the Doof Doof music around the pool can be heard from the 6th floor. Now NO ONE was ever around the pool and on numerous occasions I requested the bar staff turn down the music. I’m on holidays I’m not at a RAVE Party. They would turn it down and within half an hour slowly turn it up again. I would ask them please turn it DOWN. I was either the only guest at the pool or I had my daughter with me. This loud pool music is probably the reason why the pool is always so deserted. This is a 2 and a half maybe a 3 star hotel it’s definitely not a four star. The hotel is clean, rooms are dated but clean and the air con works well. Wifi is intermittent pretty tragic and very slow. Our Toilets broke down every other day but were fixed quickly and the shower water does smell bad like rotten eggs awful and is a bit salty tasting. Key cards for both of us stopped working but were quickly replaced. The beds are king size and comfortable with good big pillows. All very clean. Breakfast was included in the Tarif it was okay however the staff, all of the staff were amazing. Pool area was average with a swim up bar. However we would of spent all day drinking cocktails and relaxing there if it wasn’t for the loud music and the fact the drinks we wanted could NOT be made because they had no rum, no Bacardi, all we wanted was a Bacardi and coke they had no Bacardi, so we went somewhere else to spend our money. The fine dining mentioned on the web site is joke we ate dinner there once, we were the only people in the place the food was well below par. Very disappointing to be ripped off in this way, no compensation was offered all staff said on the occasions we brought it up was that the rooftop bar was closed and would not be opening. I was expecting to start our family once a year holiday watching the sunset on ananta’s rooftop bar sipping cocktails, that’s why we booked it. We were all so disappointed. Instead we had Doof Doof music around a concrete pool area. As I write this from the 6th floor I can here the pool music pumping out loudly looking out my window and guess what there is NO ONE at the damn pool. I give Ananta one star we would never ever ever come back! Even though the staff are lovely and the hotel is clean, tired but pretty but NOTHING like the beauty of its web site photos and reasonably priced! Never again!

I have tried to email the Ananta directly to the address on their website but keep getting a ‘mail undeliverable’ message, so I will put my review here. For the past few years I have travelled to Bali twice a year, and I have stayed at the Ananta at least five times. I have also recommended the Ananta to many of my friends who have travelled to Bali. I have just returned to Australia after a six night stay, and I am writing to express my disappointment with my stay this time. On check in, we were told to keep our room key away from our phones and any other credit cards, as putting them near these things could cause the room key to stop working. I have never encountered this as a problem at any other hotel and, despite following these instructions, my room key stopped working three times throughout my stay. The lift on my side of the hotel was not working when I checked in, and it was out of order for the duration of my stay. This was extremely inconvenient. I understand that things do need maintenance, but I felt it should have been resolved, and it was not. When we checked in we were told that the pool area and the fish pond were undergoing maintenance, we had not been informed of this at the time of booking or at all in advance of our stay. We did not find out until we had checked in. These works proved to be extremely disruptive and impacted significantly on the quality of our stay. Half of the area around the pool was closed off, which meant there was a shortage of lounge chairs. The noise from the work was constant, with hammering and banging going on all day every day of our stay. This made it unpleasant to sit around the pool, and we were not even able to rest and relax in our rooms during the day, as the sound resonated through the entire hotel. The fish pond was drained, which led to an unpleasant smell in the restaurant area. I understand that maintenance has to be performed, but we paid significantly more for this stay than we have in the past ($120 a night, compared with previous stays, which have cost us between $70 and $80/night), and felt that the pool was almost unusable. I noticed that the quality of the rooms was significantly lower than in previous stays; more than once I was provided with a bath mat with brown stains on it; the towels were threadbare and there was mould in the shower. The grout in the tiles in the bathroom area was also dirty and mouldy. I have attached photos for your information. Additionally, twice during my stay, the hot water was not working in my room and I was forced to have a cold shower. The air-conditioning in my room also stopped working and had to be repaired at one point during my stay. This is certainly not what I expect of a four star hotel. One morning I noticed a room service tray left at the end of the corridor; there was a significant amount of food left on the tray. This tray sat in the corridor for more than 24 hours; eventually I told the concierge about this and it was removed, however, again, this is not what I expect of a four star hotel. Overall I was extremely disappointed with my recent stay and feel that I can no longer recommend the Ananta as a great place to stay to my friends. As much as I have loved this hotel in the past, I now feel that I was significantly overcharged for my recent stay, given all of the above, and I could have enjoyed a more pleasant stay elsewhere for less. Having said that the staff were, as always, welcoming and accommodating, and this complaint in no way reflects on the staff.

me and my friend came from Philippines and stayed at the Ananta Legian Hotel. and I asked the hotel staff for help with the simple birthday decoration in our room for birthday of my best friend, and I realized that it could not be last minute order. and I ask for help for simple decoration, but the response from the Hotel staff was AGUNG as Duty Manager. rude and snapped at me as if I didn't have good attitude not describing a hotelier . and I explained that the hotel should know that one of guests who was staying at a hotel was having a birthday, so actually every single hotel they realize for the guest staying have a birthday date, I really don't recommend this hotel, with service from staff who are not attitude

This is a nice, clean hotel, tucked away on a small street in Legian. Although not directly on the beach, the rooftop bar affords a great spot to see the sun setting over the sea. I loved the tranquility of the hotel, away from all the loud beachfront bars and parties. And yet, it’s a five-minute walk to the beach: great for a morning stroll. I had a small problem with my shower drain, which was fixed immediately. The staff’s responsiveness is reflected in how maintenance and constant cleaning are going on during the day. The breakfast offers a nice variety of foods, and again, staff at the buffet are warm and genuinely friendly.

Nice hotel, friendly staff, excellent area. Had a lower ground pool room, had everything we needed, with a super large bed. Breakfast was nice, bit predictable. Found the pool prices slightly high, with the 21% gov tax, but i expext its the same everywhere. Would definitely stay again due to the location

Upon arrival the toilet was filthy, this place needs some TLC ASAP! The wall was patchy, a lamp water damaged, really dimly lit room when all lights on, the shower.... well when you turn on the water it smelt like rotten farts (apparently due to the rain and beach being close...not that management spoke to us as requested), shower wasn’t clean, nothing in mini bar (although advertised as stocked), over-priced drinks at the pool (they also charge corkage if you byo), pool towels old and to get to pool need to walk on broken planks around lounge seats right past other guests back doors. Frosted window to shower (meaning you can see silhouette of person bathing, ok if partner but weird if mates) and staff information was inconsistent (different check out times, different rooftop times, different breakfast type... overall very confusing)

I stayed in Ananta Legian Hotel couple of days including New Years Eve. The staff of the hotel organized party on the roof top and it was nice to be able to see all the fireworks in the city and on the beach. I like very much the swimming pool and the breakfast. The staff was very helpful and nice. They even offered us a vouchers for free massage on 1st of January.

We stayed here for one night as a transit hotel - it was ok for this purpose but I wouldn't want to stay more than one night here. I gave the hotel an overall rating of "Average" but really it is on the low side of average. The hotel is very tired and lacking in cleanliness, especially the bathroom, the shower had a lot of mildew and the showerhead was calcified and not very effective. Walking around, there were many aspects of the hotel that looked like they required a bit of maintenance. The bed was comfortable enough and linen was fine but the bath towels were very tired. The WiFi was strong and reliable and the TV had a good selection of English stations. Most staff were ok to deal with but the overall vibe was subdued. I've had a look at the most recent reviews and I noticed that Management have only responded to reviews that put Ananta in a positive light. To my mind, this speaks volumes about the overall intention of hotel management to take on board negative feedback and to use it to make changes areas that very obviously need improvement. Unfortunately this approach will ultimately impact the business in a negative way.

We stayed for 1 week over the New year after reading most of the reviews on trip advisor it sounded like a great hotel to stay Upon arrival we checked out the hotel and it is nothing like the photos the hotel has aged and is in urgent need of a renovation, very dirty and rough around the edges Not the best location not really central to anything and a lot of traffic This is our 5th time going to Bali and we love getting cocktails at the pool bar the drinks at this hotel were terrible almost un drinkable I’m not sure if they use arak instead of the genuine alcohol, most of the drinks were sold out and they couldn’t make them anyway for all 7 days the glasses had cracks in them and should of been thrown out years before, the pool towers were very old also, No events were planned for NYE which was pretty disappointing Some of the staff weren’t very friendly and looked like they didn’t wanna be working which killed the vibe quite a bit The rooms weren’t very clean I found hats and clothes under the bed that didn’t belong to myself, The hotel plays a big part in anyone’s trip and can make or break a holiday I do believe this hotel ruined our experience especially because we were travelling with first timers to Bali I would hope the hotel would spend some money on renovations and cleaning the place up and maybe train the staff at the bar to make proper drinks Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend staying here

From the moment we arrived, we knew that what was on the website did not reflect the same. Once we were given our room key there were ants, bed bugs and sewage (rotten egg) smell coming from the shower and also dirty linen. No amenities in the bathroom, fridge is hot and the aircon is noisy. When we went to reception they told us they could not change our rooms but would only “clean it”. After an hour when we went back into the room, everything was exactly the same so we approached reception again and asked for a full refund or move us to another room. They refused a refund and told us that they will move us to another room on another level, however the room was exactly the same as to what we originally had. We tried to approach management but apparently there was no manager on site. We demanded a refund again but they advised again that it’s their company’s policy to not refund. We then got told we will be moved to another room at midday. So, 7-8 hours after check in we moved into a new room with the exact same issues we started with. Overall, the entire experience has been disappointing and I would not recommend this place to anybody especially if it’s your first time to Bali. It’s meant to be four star but this is definitely not. The hotel has potential & is in a great spot but it appears management are not keen to keep their customers happy. Very disappointing experience not just for us but other guests who had the same issues with this hotel.
