Property's Favorite Review
My time at Great Mountain Views and Sidemen was absolutely magical and incredible. Being a solo traveller, I will admit that, at first, travelling out to the resort was quite intimidating and overwhelming with the closeness of Mt Agung and the remote area. However, within half an hour of being there, the ambience hit, and I knew I was in for the once-in-a-lifetime experience I had hoped for.
The resort is genuinely beautiful. You can tell a lot of detail, thought, care, and respect has gone into making it. The staff are so friendly and kind, and I felt so cared for, especially by Nyoman and Wayan, who made me feel like I was being welcomed into a luxurious home. I booked in for two experiences at the resort through Clare in reservations, who was incredibly accommodating, attentive and kind through the whole organising and booking experience, which added to such a wonderful experience.
One was Wayan's Canang Sari class, which was truly special. Wayan was so patient and had a brilliant way of teaching. Learning the process and being taken to the temple was one of my favourite parts. I also did a Ricefield walk, which incorporated much more than I expected. My guide, Made was terrific, and his knowledge of culture, traditions, history, and customs was outstanding. I had a wonderful time talking, walking and learning from him. Clare also helped organise a visit and activities at Samsara Living Museum, which I highly recommend.
The tranquillity of GMV, makes it a must-visit for those wanting to connect and learn about the natural and authentic Bali. Thank you to Clare, Nyoman, Wayan, Made and all the staff who made it an exceptional stay. I can't wait to return soon and bring my family back.

Unreal location with a lovely view of Mount Agung. My wife and I stayed here as a staging area for climbing the mountain. Our experience was delightful. The entire staff treated us like family and our room was beautiful. The room had an outdoor shower and bathroom that was unique and wonderful (hot shower felt good after trekking in the rain). This is a must stay!!

A beautiful spot to stay and connect with nature. Discovering Bali is all about staying in the small hamlets and this little village of Duda is a beauty. Make sure you get up at 6:00 am for the most stunning sunrise ever. The organic garden serves the needs of the restaurant - such beautiful food! The staff are so kind and we called beforehand and they let us bring our little dog. She loved it and we love to take her away. Ask about the waterfall 30 mins away. You can really fall in love with Bali here. Make sure you have 1 or 2 nights or longer- take a walk through the friendly local village too. Hello, this is the real Bali. Only 1 hr from Ubud (or 45 mins early morning). Easy to get there by self-drive following waze or google maps.

First of all the location is magical with Mount Agung as a backdrop. In amongst working rice fields further add to this. I realize that out in the villages they would have been hit harder during the pandemic, but there were a few things that I was not too happy about.
The resort is rustic by nature and I accept, the sounds and the creepy crawlies and everything that comes with such a place. We have stayed in many over the years. The bedsheets were a little musty and the green towels were definitely past their use by date, one having a big hole in it. The main globe in the room didn't work so we only had the light from a bedside lamp. I brought it up with the team the next morning but nothing changed for our second night Also, the room only locked from the inside with a key but that same key wouldn't lock it from the outside. So we couldn't lock it when we went out for the day.
The footpath and stepping stones need a pressure wash as they are mossy and slippery. My friend saw a lady face plant when she slipped on one. So a couple of things here, that were non-negotiable in my opinion.
We did have one evening meal here which was very nice - Soto Ayam and Nasi goreng and the pandan pancakes for dessert. Breakfast also was not too bad - once again positioned nicely for that amazing volcano view.

If this place were a dish, I would describe it as a “delicious” one. Really, absolutely everything here has made tastefully, starting from the choice of location ending with dishes in the restaurant (we’ve had a soft spot for local Soto Ayam, in particular), and an incredible hospitality from the staff and owners’s side had become the cherry on the cake. And despite we had hardly seen a majestic Mt.Agung in all its glory during our two-days stay, we were really enjoying the time we spent here, at this fantastic place.

What a lovely find this place is! Amazing views of Mt Agung - make sure you get up early for sunrise - comfy villa-style rooms in a stunning setting surrounded by rice fields; friendly staff.
Plenty of activities nearby including white water rafting, trekking Mt Agung or Batur or even visiting the local spiritual man.
Or you can just chill by the pool and wonder at the scenery.
We visited the stunning Bali Asli for lunch, which is pretty close by. Incredible food Ave decor.
Our rooms were $60 and $70 each including breakfast. Great value.

Great and quiet environment, far from the excessively crowded other areas of Bali.
But not deserving 5 stars because of the limited staff service quality.
- Not willing to help us find a taxi (except their own over-expensive driver service)
- Scooters location expensive and with unfair conditions
- hôtel restaurant service Veeeery long....

Elegant and clean cottage rooms, breathtaking views of Mt. Agung and rice terraces from the restaurant and lovely staff make the resort an absolute choice to stay when in Sideman.
Just sit back in the restaurant in the evening, order a pot of Honey Ginger tea and dupe your self in the beauty the surroundings have to offer. It’s an experience you cannot afford to miss.
Breakfast spread at the restaurant is decent.
All I can recommend is addition of new variety of food options in the restaurant menu for the guests.

This was a truly wonderful overnight stay. The view was incredible. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was great and reasonably priced for Bali. We could onky hear sounds of nature. The pool was in good condition and considering that Bali has been virtually closed off, the rooms were in good condition. The hot water was a bit old and limited but it worked. We will stay here for longer on our next visit as it a wonderful discovery.

Room is big and spacious, have a spacious outdoor bathroom. The view from the resort is super!! With the paddy field and mount Agung view. Staff was welcoming and very helpful. There is no air con in the room but it’s ok due to cold weather in that area. Overall, good experience staying here!

Hi Kerry,
Yes, it's available.
It's IDR 1,000,000/night (app USD 75) incl taxes and breakfast, so for 3 nights would be IDR 3,000,000
If you'd like me to book you in, please drop me an email so I can take your details.
Thank you!
Clare
Hi Kerry,
Thanks for your question.
Yes, the pool will probably be ready next week, so it will be fully operational in April.
We have a family room, which is basically two rooms connected by a double door, one with two single beds, one with a double bed. We also have one room with two double beds, one small double and one large. This is our Frangipani, which has the best views of the mountain. We normally say this Frangipani room is best for a couple and two children, and less suitable for 4 adult travellers, because one of the beds is smaller and there only is one bathroom...
Hope this helps.
If you have any more queries please contact me via Tripadvisor or our own site.
Kind regards,
Clare Anderson
booking manager & co-owner GMV BALI
Hi Annika
Thank you for your message. Well, normally we are a base for tours to Mt Agung but as you may be aware, at the moment tourists are not yet permitted to climb the mountain due to the situation with the volcano. Even though the security level is now Level 3, it is still not deemed safe to climb Mt Agung. I don't know how the situation will be in October - it is not possible for me to predict this. However, if you like climbing mountains, we could offer you different packages, for instance climbs of Mt Batur, a Local Hills Trek etc.
Hope this helps Annika, and let me know if you want to book a room or have more questions.
All best
Clare
