In the beautiful waterways and backwaters of the Kuttanad region of Central Kerala lies Emerald Isle, an exotic haven of tranquility, seemingly remote from city life, yet barely 10 kilometers from Alleppey Town. Tucked away on this delightful island lies the Emerald Isle Heritage Villa, an ancestral Country House set in 9 acres of secluded grounds – your Retreat into a Paradise of Peace. Emerald Isle Heritage Home is situated in an island resplendent with exotic flora, breathtaking flowers, myriad birds and butterflies to make for a memorable holiday, affordable and unforgettable. A truly wonderful way to spend your time on the banks of the backwaters of Kerala! Our house, dating back 150 years, retains its original architectural features, mostly in teak, with splendid wood carvings. There is also a fine Ara, the timber storeroom used in former times for the golden harvest of rice – golden because the island’s lush green paddy fields turn gold at the time of the harvest. Our property stretches across 9 acres including lush green paddy fields and fish ponds. All meals are served in dining room. Please ask us if you want to have any special facilities like Ayurvedic treatments or houseboat rides. Emerald Isle is ideal for those wanting to relax, sun themselves or getting away from it all. The tranquil air here is salve to frayed nerves and everyday tensions. Read a book or taste the locally harvested ’toddy’ fresh from the coconut trees ! When you tire of lazing in a hammock, or sunbathing in the courtyard garden, you can take a walk around the island, go fishing or have a swim. Emerald Isle Heritage Villa offers peace, privacy and pure relaxation. There are only 5 rooms (All Air-conditioned) for guests and each has its own en-suite Open-Shower bathroom with all modern facilities. The en-suite bathrooms have been tastefully done and open to the sky above to give you a feel of being truly closer to nature at Emerald Isle!

Amazing staff, amazing setting, tasty food! We loved it! The staff was so nice: provided us with two bikes to cycle around during the afternoon; in the evening, there was the dinner with all these tasty food and romantic setting ^.^ The breakfast was also so good (loved the Appam rice pancakes) and then, the trip around the beautiful spice garden. Vijo, thank you so much for the hospitality!

This place came highly recommended by an acquaintance so my husband and I included it in our tour of Kerala. An off-the-beaten-path location, the ever-changing activity on the river, canal boat tours easily accessed just across from the front gate, and melodic singing wafting through the night air from a Hindu festival nearby made for an enchanting experience. The accommodating owner let us stay in two different types of rooms during our visit – a cabin with hammock off the open-air shower area, and a room which had an outdoor and an indoor shower. But what made Emerald Island a standout for us was the genuinely friendly people. We were shown how tari/toddy juice was collected and we very much enjoyed our conversations with the boatman and cook. I was a little sad to leave.

We spent two blissful nights at this lovely homestay. We arrived on the island on a small boat and were immediately welcomed by the charming owner and shown around. After checking in lunch was provided - delicious local dishes were provided for lunch as well as for breakfast and evening meal. All eaten in the shady tropical garden. It’s a totally peaceful location surrounded by rivers, paddy fields and with large grounds with lovely gardens. Bikes were available to borrow and explore the island. The second evening we chose to do a trip on the smaller canals guided gently by one of the very helpful staff. This was a fantastic experience and seemed the best way to experience the village, waterways and have a flavour of the way of life here. All the villagers were very friendly and greeted us as we sailed past. I highly recommend this homestay for a unique and memorable experience!

Sadly we only stayed one night at Emerald Isle. We would loved to have stayed longer. Arriving by canoe is very special. The house is delightful and surrounded by gardens and paddy fields. It is tranquil and very hospitable. The food was very well served and extremely tasty. Our villa was delightful and the outdoor bathroom and shower fantastic. It was just so wonderful to be collected from just outside the Villa by the Houseboat that we then spent the next day on. The whole experience was very romantic and special.

Our taxi stopped at the waters edge and we waited for the "ferry" when it arived it was a motorised canoe, this was the start of a lovely relaxing visit to the Emerald Isle.We were allocated the Coconut store which was really lovely, it had an outside bathroom and a private garden. the whole homestay is set in lovely well tended gardens with numerous varieties of plants and trees within a cocunt grove. As we had been travelling for the previous part of our holiday it was good to just take it easy. A short walk from the homestay is a small temple and we were lucky enough to walk by when a group of devotees were chanting a prayer lit by candle light. It was a lovely experience to witness. The homestay provides dinner which is eaten outside, there is plenty of food but it is a little plain. Overall our stay was most enjoyable.
