My husband and I stayed here for three nights in March 2016. The family were so welcoming and we were extremely well looked after by the caretaker and cook. The homestay is set in a small village with little other tourism in the immediate area. The local people were so friendly - we were invited to take part in the... More

Having read a Guardian review of this accommodation, we booked ahead, something I recommend you do prior to your arrival in India/Kerela. Having been dropped at the riverside by a taxi driver, we were greeted by a man in longboat, who took us to Chacko’s home via the backwaters. As you make the journey to Nelpura, you get a taste... Arriving at Nelpura is like stepping into a fairy tale. A boat along a flower filled canal, a garden full of birdsong and the tranquillity of the backwaters all around. This is a hreat base to explore Kerala's backwaters. Comfortable, great food and a warm welcome from the family.

Professor Chacko and his wife are warm and charming hosts and the staff and helpful and efficient and gracious. They Professor and his wife are experts in their field but wear their knowledge lightly and have retained their home's family atmosphere. There is one room available in the house itself and three in the adjacent converted grain store. There is... More

My husband and I stayed in this nice home during our recent trip in Kerala . We were greeted with pleasure by the owner, Mr . Chacko. The building showcases the fine features of traditional Kerala architecture and woodcarving. The atmosphere is relaxing and the landscape which surroundes the small hotel is beautiful! The rooms, made by traditional wood, are... More

If you want to get away from the traffic of Mumbai or Delhi, this is the place. A lovely home stay in a sweet little village, walking and boating around, eating some of the best food ever made by the homestay family. We also indulged in some lovely massages too. Our time there was grand, Chacko & his wife &... More

Due to the strike, I was delayed by12 hrs so I really didn't get enough time to enjoy my stay with the family. I was greeted warmly by Mr Chacko on the river bank in darkness and discovered that we had to cross the river in a motorised canoe which was exciting. MrsChacko had a meal waiting for me which... We were taken across the main river and down a side stream to the property by boat. We were warmly welcomed by the family and had interesting conversations during our 2 day stay. There are 3 rooms in 'the Granary' which is to the side of the property with a wide shaded veranda. The rooms share a lobby with good... More

We stayed at Nelpura for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the utter relaxation it provided. The room was beautiful and well air conditioned. The surrounding area was very pretty and offered a lovely extension on the backwaters to the houseboat we had stayed on for two nights. The hosts spoke perfect English and gave us a fascinating insight to Kerala.
