This hostel is located a few kilometres outside the city centre. If you want to be close and at the same time far away from the centre, then this hostel is a good option for you. I strongly recommend to rent a bicycle or a motorbike. It is necessary because: - Tuk tuk drivers wait in the city centre for their clients. It depends on your luck to find one outside the centre. - Renting means of transport is much cheaper than using tuk tuk for moving around. - Some wrote here they rented a bicycle for 5 USD per day. Be careful this price is not correct. I rented a bicycle for 2 USD per day by a travelling and bicycle rental office in the centre. - Check your bicycle or motorbike first. Be sure it has enough strong front and back light. There are NO streetlights in some parts of the way between the city and the hostel.

We got a private room with a fan and mosquito net and shared bathroom for 6$ usd for two of us. We had to use earplugs cause it was a Friday night and the bar next door was in full swing. You can smoke as much pot as you want in the common chill out/by the water/restaurant/bar area and it seems like that’s the main clientele-artisans and hippies. The food is off the hook and some of the best we’ve had during our journey. They played a variety of good underground music in the afternoon and evening and music goes off around 9pm. The pretty river is dirty around this area and I hope that all the fishermen, restaurants, hotels and residents work together to figure out how to keep it clean. One small step that Bungalow Kampot River can do is switch from using plastic straws to bamboo or paper.

When i arrived to the hostel for the first time i was kind a shocked, because the bungalos were widely open. At the end i stayed there for the entire week. The place has a great resturant with great food in low prices, best service in kampot. The bungalos are basic, with a small fan and a gila and in a good season you can get the best sleep. The showers are pretty dirty and some of the bungalos are sharing them. Reccomended for backpackers only!

Well, it's a lovely looking place but ever so disappointing. Let me start with the PLUSES: -the staff are very nice and helpful -the location is good, it is by the river so you have a nice view and an option to jump straight into the water. It is a little bit far from the city centre though -the bungalows looks absolutely stunning from the outside MINUSES: -it's is one of the dirtiest places I've been in south east Asia. I didn't even dare to take a shower there it was horrendous. Both the room and bathroom looks like it had never been cleaned, the sheets on the bed had blood, and mosquito net was just covered with dirt and had so many holes that it was not much point using it anyway -bathroom - first of all it was as I said absolutely dirty. Second of all it did not have a sink so no way really of washing hands or teeth . It had no bin(neither did the room) so that did not help at all. No place to put a shower gel or anything and I don't know how could you even consider getting in without shoes to shower. -the entrance to the bungalow is on the ladder not stairs so putting your luggage in is a challenge and locking the door is praying not to fall as you need to pull the door hard to place the lock. Also, bathroom is downstairs not in a room so you have to use this ladder every time you wanna go to the loo. I think it is extremely dangerous if you had too much to drink -whole place is just covered with flies -location being far from the city centre - you just have to buy a tuktuk coming back in the dark as there is absolutely no lights on the street and it is full of barking dogs and generally quite creepy to walk even with a torch All in all, great potential, was very excited to come here but unless they clean it and improve the bathrooms it is more of a survival destination as oppose to a relaxing spot.

Nice little place right on the river, bar area is lovely right over the water, draft beer is $0.75 , food is cheap and tasty with a huge menu. Fan bungalow without bathroom costs $6 a night, a walk to town takes about 25 minutes, or it's a quick tuktuk or Moto ride. Recommended.
