Many a childhood would have been spent playing in the world of ‘make-believe’. Within this imaginary existence many of us will have climbed and played high up in the bows and branches and, for the lucky few, built a ‘palace’ in the sky. It is this nostalgic sparkle that is all too visible in the eyes of the ‘grown-ups’ who gaze upon Tarangire Treetops for the first time. Tarangire Treetops sits serenely on the border of the Tarangire National Park, Tanzania. As you arrive at the Lodge, you are immediately greeted by a blaze of colour and a host of smiles all of which belong to the local Maasai tribesmen who have become part of the enchanting story that is Tarangire Treetops.

We visited the Tarangire Treetops Lodge for the first time in March 2019 for one night as part of a tour with Chamäleon Reisen. The lodge is located just outside the Tarangire National Park, but it is simply amazing. The "rooms" are all located IN a baobab tree. All of the staff, starting with the Maasai, the guides on the game drives, the entire service staff - all incredibly friendly, helpful, willing to provide information and always on hand. The food was excellent, and I was also impressed by the packed lunch that we were given, as no disposable dishes were used and we produced no rubbish at all. The evening drink with all the scents and sounds of a real African night with a view of a waterhole, or the short thirsty visit from elephants at the pool, or a delayed breakfast because a group of elephants urgently needed to eat under the baobab trees - all of this made our stay there unforgettable. The proximity to Tarangire National Park is great and the location allows game drives to almost every corner of the national park. The NP is fantastic and an ideal addition to the Serengeti. We also found the little five.
We will be there again on February 24, but then we can stay there for 3 nights because we booked a very individual safari through our travel agency in which all of our wishes will be fulfilled.

Our stay at Treetops was one of the highlights of our trip to Tanzania - staying here is highly recommended, and we will definitely come back on our next safari. In particular, following aspects stood out to us:

Game Drives
Upon our arrival, our guide Lenga picked us up from the airstrip and welcomed us with some refreshments. Then we were immediately confronted with the beauty of Tarangire as we drove through it to the lodge. On the way we saw many animals including lions and elephants. Over the next days, Lenga took us on multiple game drives, night safaris and a walking safari through Tarangire. On the walking safari we were also joined by the Masai Warrior Mr. T who protected us and also did a great job explaining and showing us the smaller wildlife that might go unnoticed from the car.
We really appreciated Lengas competence in explaining all the intricacies of the life of the animals and plants in the area. He was able to answer all of the many biology questions we asked. As Tarangire has some shrubs and hills and animals can easily hide, especially in the slightly more rainy season, Lengas ability to spot the animals even when they were so well hidden was invaluable.

Service
Everyone at the lodge was incredibly kind and welcoming to us. Upon arrival on the first day, we were warmly welcomed by manager Charles and all the staff. Peter took care of us around the clock and anticipated all our needs. Every day, Denis prepared us to the cocktail of the day and on one evening even took more than 1h of time to explain us the history and culture of Tanzania. Even though we were on the other side of the world they made us feel at home.

Lodge & Room
The lodge is nestled between the trees and in the main area there is a nice pool and a watering hole which is used by the animals so one can observe them while having a drink or dinner. In the evening they set up a small fire where guests can have smores.
The rooms are built so one can see over the canopy. Ours was even built around a massive baobab tree. Our room was always very clean and well taken care of by Gift. She also took our washing every morning and returned it clean in the evening which allowed us to pack much less clothes. Every morning and evening we were escorted to our rooms by some Maasai guards to protect us from any animals.

Food & Entertainment
The food was really delicious. Both the packed breakfasts and lunches we had on the game drives as well as the hot meals at the lodge. When conditions are good they serve dinner under the stars which was very romantic.
For New Year's Eve, Treetops organized a festive dinner outside, which was accompanied by an impressive cultural display of Maasai singing and dancing, which definitely gave us a great start into the new year!

We had a fantastic stay at Tarangire Treetops!

Even before we arrived, the Elewana team had been very helpful in the planning process.

The place is beautiful and the staff makes sure you enjoy every corner of it by setting up your dinner table in a different spot every evening. The food was as delicious as the setting and our butler Peter made sure we always had everything we needed and was rather funny! We were travelling with three young children and we really appreciated the flexibility and the help we were offered. The rooms were great and we enjoyed the view very much.

Our guide Justice made our game drives really special and shared a lot about the Maasai culture, which we found fascinating. Our favourite moments were the sundowners, which were impeccably organised in stunning locations!

We hope to be able to return!

We arrived via bush plane after a quick overnight in Arusha. We were met at the landing strip location by Stan who was our personal driver for the next 4 days (3 nights). Stan was extremely knowledgeable about all the animals and is an expert guide. We did game drives, walking safari (must do) and sundowner (must do). The setting is wonderful and there is a double shower with hot water (just need to asked them via the radio to fire up the wood boiler and there is nice hot water with strong pressure. The food is very good (not top end NYC but amazing considering the location). The picnic lunches are set out on table clothes with dishes and glassware (no box lunch). All of the staff was wonderful and they made every effort to make personal connections.

I know that being awaken by animals cries cannot be the best experience. But when you leave, you realize that this was a great memory. Even located in the trees, the room are spacious, very comfortable and open on the savannah. We stayed only two nights, but I am sure you can see animals from your room terrace if you stay longer. We see buffalos from the dining room. I would like to thank especially the management, that not only gave us a close room to the main area, but allow my wife to use the golf cart anytime she needs to commute from and to the room. A special thanks to Mister T, the Masai that drove the golf cart at any time in the morning or late at night, i do not know when this guy sleeps. The lodge organized events every night, so we had the second day a Masai diner with dances... Great moment. As it was the low season, we were only three couples at the lodge but staff, management and everyone were so kind and ready to help. Our travel agency has proposed to do a night safari, organized by the lodge, do not hesitate to ask for it, it is an amazing experience. we really loved the place.

From the moment you are picked up at the airport you experience Elewana warmth, kindness and service. Josefat accompanied us for 4 days, taking care of every detail so that we were enjoying the safaris with comfort, accurate information, delicious food and familiarity. The wonderful staff, Mr Clay always willing to suggest and organize every detail of the day, Anthony attended to us with total warmth and excellence in every meal both in the hotel and in every meal outside the hotel. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, taking care of every detail and need and with wonderful views of the elephants, buffaloes, and zebras. The visit to the Maasai tribe, the walking safari and the sunset in the mountains are unmissable!! An unbeatable experience! Totally recommended.

Our family of five (3 20 something 'kids') started our Tanzanian trip-of-a-lifetime at Tarangire Treetops and were wowed from the moment our private guide drove our 4X4 into the parking lot. From that moment on, we received a very high level of service from our butler Benjamin and the rest of the team at Treetops. The location, while about 45 minutes outside of the Boundary Hill gate, was beautiful and the accommodations in elevated tents were luxurious. We heard animals overnight but never felt unsafe.

The Boma dinner and the dinner under the stars on the deck were both delicious. We had an absolute blast on a walking safari with Justice which then proceeded to a breathtaking location for sundowners and on to a fun night game drive.

The staff anticipated everyone of our needs and even paid close attention to our morning plans so that the guards to walk us from our tents to the breakfast area were waiting outside our tents when we were ready to go.

Manager Clay is warm and leads a great team. Special thanks to Benjamin, Imelda and Witness for making our stay special.

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Tarangire Treetops. From the moment our guide picked us up at the airstrip to the moment he dropped us off everything we absolutely perfect! Using a travel agent stateside we booked through SkySafari. The attention to detail was magnificent. Upon arrival at the airstrip our guide Stan had a spread of snacks and drinks as a welcome. We piled into our vehicle and made our way through the National Park. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor (he put up with my dad’s jokes). He made sure to give us the best opportunities to see the wildlife on our list. On our first drive we saw elephants, giraffe, zebra, lionesses, ostriches, and many more! When we pulled up to the Treetops the staff, including the manager Clay, were outside to greet us. We were given a brief overview and introduced to our butler Joshua. Again, I can not say enough about the attention to detail. The lodging was amazing, the care for our safety was top notch, and their flexible and accommodating nature was exceptional! The food was delicious and once they figured out your preferred beverage at meal time, it was always waiting, you never had to ask. Our treehouse was stunning! The bathroom was amazing (so cool to shower where it drains through the floor). The beds were beyond comfortable. Nothing beats falling asleep to the sounds of hyenas and insects in the wild with your window flaps zipped open. All vehicles were equipped with beverages and fly swatters for the pesky tsi tsi flies! Three highlights of our time there was the sundowners on the private remote hill in the middle of the conservation area, the visit to the Maasai village, and the watering hole with a herd of elephants to eat our meals with throughout the day. The bush walk was also a very cool experience. Walking amongst the elephants and knowing there were other animals nearby because of the different poop was so cool. We even got to hold a chameleon! These were our first 2 nights in the African Bush and our favorite two nights of the trip!

We stayed here for two nights and it is a truly stunning place. The rooms in the treetop lodges are very spacious with huge, comfortable beds looking out over the treetops. The showers are to die for ! The main lodge is full of comfortable seating with understated luxury and the staff are in a class of their own. We were looked after by our ambassador Patrick and he was so friendly and attentive with the utmost high standard of customer care. But everyone who looked after us could not have done more. One of the many special things about Treetops is the watering pool as most days you’ll have a visit from wildlife - day or night. This place is magic and the wildlife you will see on your game drives would recommend Tarangire and essential stop if you’re planning a safari in Tanzania. Thankyou Treetops for once in a lifetime memories

The Tarangire Treetops Lodge may have been the best overall lodging lodging experience we have ever had. The lodge, the people and the surroundings were all exceptional. I wish we could have rated this place higher than a 5.
The lodge is situated just outside Tarangire National Park and creates an atmosphere of peaceful relaxation amongst the incredible natural beauty. Each "room" is set apart from the main lodge and offer incredible views. The main lodge is very welcoming and we really enjoyed spending time there after our game drives.
The people working at the Treetops were exceptional in friendliness and service. An example was the evening we did the night game drive. We had had a large late lunch and skipped dinner. We got back from the game drive and were met with smiles and hot chocolate (my wife is lactose intolerant and they made regular hot chocolate for me and used soy milk for my wife's hot chocolate). Even though we got back at 10:30pm, they asked if they could still make dinner for us. We declined, but really appreciated the offer.
Even when we departed, we were walked out by several workers. I let one know that they did not need to do that but was told that it is a Swahili tradition. If you do not walk out with your guests, they may not return!
We very highly recommend Tarangire Treetops for anyone who will be visiting Tarangire national Park.

Having just recently stayed here and me being travel consultant, I feel I provide very unbiased reviews. The Treetops as with any Elewana camps is deluxe glamping. Huge bathrooms, great pressure, toilets like home, solar powered, great electrical outlets....can't say enough. Water bottles to heat your bed when you come back to your room after dinner. A parade of elephants waking you in the morning walking past your very safe accommodation. Do yourself a favor....stay at any of the Elewana camps. #elewana.

Greetings from Elewana and thank you for your question. To my knowledge we have never had any guests stranded at our lodge because of heavy rains - at least not guests who travel with our vehicles and our driver guides. The property is located on an escarpment with great views, and it is true that there is a river between us and the entry road to the property. However we have not as yet had issues with the river height even during the rainy season. I personally travel to the lodges by car (small Land Rover) during this period and have not as yet been stranded, and I am not as proficient a driver as our esteemed drivers. It is true that the river does get quite high (sometimes two or three feet) but this makes for a great river crossing. It's a relatively small river with the crossing being less than 10 - 12 metres wide. We do keep a careful eye on the weather during the rainy season for obvious reasons, but it is still my favourite time of year to visit the bush. Why? Less dust, still warm, less cars, and therefore more - for me at least - enjoyable. Our Elewana teams are always vigilant when it comes to the guest experience and I can assure you that should there be any indication at all that your stay with us would be impacted, we would take immediate action to ensure that this doesn't happen. I would strongly suggest - if not booking directly with Elewana - that you contact your ground handler and/or agent to ask them to open a line of communication that can keep you up to date with any issues. Things of course can happen, outside of our control, and that is why it is important for you to feel comfortable in coming to us as we are the ones that will take the onus of ensuring you and your family have the best safari experience possible. We sincerely look forward to you visiting us. Best regards Jason Barry Group Director of Elewana.
