We stayed two nights at the Tortilis Tarangire camp at the start of our trip and were the only guests staying there for both nights. I’ve never stayed in a tent quite like this before. It was very spacious. We had a very comfortable double bed, as well as a well sized bathroom with a proper toilet and shower. There’s also a porch area at the front of the tent. The tent looked clean well maintained. All the staff were very warm and accommodating, and danced for us on the last night to say goodbye. As well as a separate dining area, there’s also a communal tent where they have books and games, but we didn’t spend much time here as we were the only guests staying. Only downsides is that where the camp is located there are a lot of tsetse flies because of the surrounding vegetation, which can be a real irritant when walking around. Also, the shower pressure is a bit on the low side even taking into account the fact this is a remote camp. Separately, I wouldn’t advise staying in Tarangire for more than one day outside of dry season. The grass gets long here making it difficult to spot animals. Time is better spent in the Serengeti.

We spent two night in Tarangire Tortilis Camp with my family. The tents looked like luxiory aparatments, very comfortable and spacious. Vey nice lake view. The staff was extremely helpful. And food really good. This is a place worth recommending if you want to visit the Tarangire National Park, which is like paradise for animals, especially elephants.

We absolutely loved our two night stay at Tortilis in Tarangire! We booked our trip with Easy Travel and stayed in several different parks and lodgings,(see our other reviews) but the Tortilis camps were our favorite, hands down! STAFF: First, we cannot say how much we truly enjoyed the staff! They were attentive and friendly and really felt like part of our family. We were able to talk and joke with them, but they were also observant of giving you time on your own if you wanted it. They made an extra effort for a bush breakfast by the lake one morning, which was amazing. We knew that this trip would be great, but only excellent if the people we met were great...Tortilis staff made our time excellent! Our last night they all got together and sang a song for us, it was so much fun! LOCATION: We thought the location was lovely. It's situated in the center of the park, so on our arrival afternoon, we toured from the entrance to the center. What was really beautiful, though, is the fact that there's been enough rain that the swamp it is typically on is now a beautiful lake lined right up for sunset. Uh-mazing! LAYOUT: We loved that the Tortilis camps are all laid out the same, so you basically know what to expect. The main tent has the dining, bar, and lounge in it. The lounge is comfortable and has board games, which is always a nice touch. To each side of the main tent are several guest tents. I believe Tarangire had either 7 guest tents on each side of the main tent. We stayed in the two guest tents furthest from the main tent. The tent-to-tent spacing is good, and the views from the front 'porch' are of the lake (marsh when it's dry I suppose) GUEST TENTS: We stayed in the guest tents that accommodate 2-3 people. Every tent has a 'vestibule' that you zip open from the outside. There is enough seating for 3-4 people here, the front is entirely screened so you have a great view without any bugs (though we didn't encounter bugs here really, unlike some locations in the park with the tse tse flies!). You unzip the next zipper and enter the bedroom area, complete with a desk and chair, two twins (or one king) bed complete with netting. Night stands had outlets and lamps, there was a flashlight and bug killer in the room, and a walkie talkie to communicate with staff if you needed it. Walk up the side of the room into the next compartment that has a twin bed, then into the large bathroom with shower, dressing area, separate toilet, and sink in the open area. Plenty of places to lay/hang your things. The bedroom had a lock box that was perfect for putting your suitcase on top of. Plenty of space. Loved the tents...they unzip the outer covering over the windows during the day and zip them closed at night, making it the darkest sleep ever...we loved it! Zipping closed makes it warmer at night, too, and it gets pretty cold at night, so that was nice. We had plenty of hot water for showers at night, you do have to ask them to turn it on, but they're glad to do that when you ask. Linens and towels were nice, especially considering things are washed and line dried here. Toiletries were individual type of average quality. They fortunately had conditioner, which many places don't! refillable ones might be more eco-friendly. Using local-made soap would be a nice touch and could help the local economy! BTW the beds sleep really nicely, memory foam mattresses, delightful! FOOD: We found the cooked food here very good! BREAKFAST was a combo of buffet and made to order. It was only our family in camp, so we weren't sharing with anyone Always a nice selection of fresh tropical fruits, a cooked veggie of some type, bacon and sausage. Beverages and condiments were supermarket variety, Cadbury chocolate. Milk was often powdered (but this is the bush, fresh milk would be difficult, so roll with it!) but they always had butter with the bread. Local-made jellies/honey/coffee/hot chocolate would be a nice touch at breakfast. LUNCH was typically a picnic for us. We had both the hamper lunch and box lunch both were delicious! with pastas or rice, cooked meat, fruit, juice box, cake...no sandwiches here, these guys know how to make a great lunch, you won't be hungry! DINNER was table service, starting with fresh made warm bread and butter, a lovely pureed soup, then a main course and dessert. One night they even made local food (Ugale? with a gravies beef) upon our request, it was one of the best meals our whole trip! There was always a ton of food, we were never hungry, in fact, we had trouble getting them to bring us less food so we wouldn't waste...but they finally agreed :-) I think our only food suggestion would be to go a bit more local with dessert...though I think the locals don't really eat anything other than fruit for dessert. When you sit down to mousse, you can't think French texture...keep an open mind. The fruit cup was always our favorite dessert here, although their cake is good as well.

We had a lovely stay at Tarangire Tortillis camp. It was our first night after landing in Tanzania and it set up the mood for the rest of the trip. We witnessed an incredibly beautiful sunset surounded by a marvelous landspace. Staff is the sweetest, they will do anything they can to make your stay perfect. Special thanks to the chef for the great quality of the food. We highly recommend this place and would go there again if we happen to go back to Tanzania.

To give you context, we stayed at all of the 4 Tortilis Camp during our trip. As far as accommodation goes all the camps are about the same which is a good thing as they are well equipped. The tents itself are very spacious and everything is well tough out to make sure you will have everything you need(hot shower, comfy bed, “patio” area, etc.). All in all the accommodation were above expectation. One recommendation for a light sleeper is to bring ear plugs as you will ear some sound during the nights, you’re still in the park! As far as staff goes, they made sure to go above and beyond to make sure we had a good time at the camp and that we were pampered at every turn (making a fire, popcorn with a late afternoon beer, diner in the bush, and the list goes on). Finally, on the food side of things, the diners were always delicious, portions were always huge, breakfast and hamper lunch were also in huge quantity and always tasty. I can confirm that it’s almost impossible to run out of food! I would definitely recommend to friends or family to stay at any of the Tortilis Camp if they want the real “park” experience without sacrificing their comfort. Asante Sana Tortilis Camp
