We arrived at the lodge in the evening around 7pm after visiting Tarangire National Park. We are two couples, made two reservations separately from two sites (Expedia and Hotel.com) and paid for our stay well in advance. We assumed the Check in was smooth as the manager/staff named Henry requested for us to fill in a form and showed us our rooms. We then proceeded with dinner and our stay. The next morning as we are ready to got it our safari game drive, Henry and another lady told us that they did not receive our reservations (made from both separate sites) and requested for us to make payments in cash. We then called Expedia and hotels.com respectively while Henry got her staff to call their office in Arusha. In the midst of this, I found out while searching through my email that someone from Roika tented lodge has indeed received my reservation as their staff named Frederick replied to one of the query which I’ve sent through Expedia app. I told Henry and they mentioned they will call the office but to no avail. Refused to let us leave until we settled the payment. This went on for about 1.5 hrs, depleting the time we have left for today as we r on a tight schedule. We ended up paying in cash as soon as we got a confirmation from the booking sites that they are going to refund our initial payments/ excess of what we are paying for in cash (as my initial payment rate is lower than rate quoted by hotel). I’m still sorting this out with Expedia. Their ability to resolve the issue was extremely slow and unprofessional. They tried to call their main office at 8:15am but no one was there to answer the phone when it was meant to be open already. Instead of sorting out the issue within their own company, they wanted me to speak with Frederick in their office but they could only text him and just kept on delaying insisting we pay cash (the rate of which was much higher than what we paid for already in Expedia). I gotta say, I’ve been booking with Expedia for many many years and this is the FIRST time I encountered such issue. So I really don’t believe it has anything to do with Expedia. Room wise, we would rate them 1 Star. The fan provided to us is faulty and it made a lot of noise when it’s running. The fan had duct tape on to hold it together but it was vibrating the wooden floor. The generator only runs til 10pm and the fan will not work beyond that. The air is rather still here so this is a big minus for us. The room is old and tired and some simple basic maintenance or upkeep could have made a significant difference. Overall a less than ideal experience due to the payment/reservations issue and I stumbled upon another review with the same issue!! What are the chances that 2 separate reservations from 2 booking sites not being received by Roika? Plus, someone from their office actually replied to my reservations in the first place?? I sensed that this is a repeated issues and either someone is pocketing monies from double payments or there’s some serious issues with their back office that handles reservation and payments. Will not recommend this lodge to anyone stopping by Tarangire National Park. Thank god it’s just a one night stay.

This property has NO fence, so the wild animals can and do visit the area. We had several elephants walk by our tent in the middle of the night. You need an escort between your tent and the bar and dining area if it is dark. Others in our group heard lions at night. Each tent has different decor. Ours had a large bathtub/shower in the shape of a pelican. Wifi only worked after 6 PM until 10 PM(?) and only near the bar. It is near Tarangire National Park. We were here 2 nights so we could do a day long game tour.

We had a terrible experience in that hotel. Someone broke into our room, while we were sleeping and stole our camera lens. They used a knife to cut the tent and got in. We were sleeping and woke up, probably, when they left. They took our bags and the camera bag, threw everything outside and took the camera lens. We were lucky as the camera was near our bed and they didn't take it. If anyone stays in that hotel, please keep your important things with you. The police informed us they arrested several guards from hotel staff since they suspected they cooperated, but we never got our lens back. Needless to say, it was a terrifying incident. We were with 3 kids and tried to keep it calm as much as we can.

We stayed here, unfortunately, only for 1 night in October. We were 13 motorbike riders and 6 crew members and we could`t have been more happy with a lodge. Everything was arranged upon arrival, logistic and information to the clients was perfect and we had a great dinner buffet with excellent food. The tents was amazing designed and good space. Some of us had a great morning with elephants and Zebras just outside the tent veranda. On group went on walking safari in the early morning. It was arranged by the camp and the local masasi guide gave us a great look into the wildlife in Tarangire. All in all, we will be back and I will recommend this camp to everyone that want some luxury and also stay close to the wild.

Stayed one night, whilst on a safari tour. The hotel had burned down earlier in the year and was still being rebuilt in parts. However, the main parts i.e. reception, dining room, bar and the lodges themselves were all in good order. The tented lodge (21) was excellent, a perfect night's sleep, followed by a hot shower. Dinner was tasty and offered from a fixed menu including vegetarian options. Due to its proximity to the park, there are Masai warriors on site to escort you back to your lodge after dark. It is not uncommon form lions, elephants, giraffes to wander through the grounds at night. My daughter even saw a leopard as she was escorted back in the evening. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Granted there is still some rebuilding to take place, but it is 100% operational and a very good place to visit when in the area. Recommended.
