Swala was the second property we visited (of five during our safari) and our very favorite! It is NOT easy to get to if driving - the roads are bumpy and rough. But, the effort is 100% worth it. Nestled within Tarangire - a park not as busy or visited as some of the others- it is among the most... More

Upon arrival we were met at the airstrip by our guide. It was around 2pm and hadn't had lunch before, our guide brougt pic nic basket so we thought that just great!! Very good detail. The whole camp is beautiful, tents are super clean, big, comfortable. Everything great. Food on camp was good, although food on safaris wasn't that good.... More

We stayed at Swala the first night of our 8 day safari, and it was absolutely incredible! After a long day of incredible game driving, we arrived tired and dusty, and were greeted with towels to clean up with and something to drink. After a briefing, we were shown to our tents, which were of luxury hotel standard, very large,... More

We stayed 2 nights during the dry season in October. It's a phenomenal experience. The epitome of "glamping" - extremely helpful and attentive staff, immaculate tents, and an immersive safari experience. We were really glad that we fit Tarangire Park into our itinerary as it's a very different environment to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. A special thanks to the Swala... More

This place is spectacular. Swala was one of 4 camps/lodges we stayed at on our honeymoon and it was by far and away our favorite. Everything about swala is 5 star. The accommodations, the property, the food, the service, and most importantly, the game viewing. We stayed in tent 12 which is right at the entrance of the camp where... More

We arrived Mid March (beginning of rainy season, some days before the camp close for the full rainy season) and we found this astonishing luxury tented camp just for ourselves. This place is already amazing but having all that for just the 2 of us, at the end of our safari was a dream. After a day of game drive... More

Of all the camps we visited in Tanzania Swala was out favorite. Babs and John were excellent hosts and managers. They were genuinely interested in getting to know their guests and making them feel welcome, while not intruding on their alone time. All of the other staff were fantastic. The food was also the best we experienced at any of... More

The setting is amazing right in the heart of all of the wildlife, impala and walker buck could be seen to walk passed your tent all hours of the day. We could not fault a single mouthful of food including the pack lunches which were brilliant. The staff were very helpful and catered for my awkward dietary needs. The tents... More

The permanent tents are amazing. the staff is wonderful, attentive and extremely freindly. the food was outstanding. My first breakfast was eaten about 40 yards away from 4 Cheetahs who had just killed an impala, that is how all safari's should start. The outside shower was used everynight, under the stars taking a shower, in the bush.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The main area is situated right under a big baobab tree, a common sight in these parts of Tanzania. The dining area, lounge, deck and small library all feature a chic, contemporary African design with a traditional thatched roof. This main area is lifted on stilts allowing a wide view of the grasslands of the Tarangire right in front of the camp. The stunning infinity pool overlooks the nearby waterhole often visited by elephants as well as the big cats that are often seen. The relaxing pool area also provides the perfect place to sip a cocktail and cool down after a day of game viewing. Sanctuary Swala has been renovated to the highest eco- friendly standards and has a particularly low carbon footprint. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the main area and in guests' tents. Each of the twelve canvas pavilions is shaded by tall acacia trees and all are within sight of the well frequented water hole. They are unashamedly luxurious and exquisitely furnished but still close enough to nature to permit an exciting night under canvas. The tents feature a spacious open plan arrangement with comfortable king or twin beds, campaign chairs and plush sofas and boasts an ensuite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor shower for that extra bit of luxury. Sip cocktails or enjoy scrumptious dinners on your own private veranda and watch the waterhole which regularly draws lions, leopards and resident bull elephants while your own personal attendant caters for your every need. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in guests' tents. ... more   less
