Wow all the way around. This was a pretty magical place on our tour and considered the best in the area. Situated amongst many crater lakes with 360 views. We had our own cabin with lake views and an outdoor patio. This was a very special stop on our Uganda tour and the route up through the mountain villages was just super cool. The chef at this place should probably be famous because the food and the service was pretty impeccable (side note: chef was a woman which made my month!!!) I still want the recipe for the chocolate pudding! The beds are covered nightly with nets and they’re very beautiful.

Things to know to be prepared (don’t want to call these cons, just more so to know):
-no electric outlets in room. Place is run fully on solar (yay environment), but charging station is in lodge only.
-no internet in rooms. Lodge only.
-hot water only operates twice a day. It’s operated by fire heating individually for each hut.

Great intimate property sitting on top a hill overlooking a lake. The staff were very attentive and served us a great dinner and breakfast. We checked in late and had to leave very early in the morning for Chimpanzee tracking- so couldn't enjoy the sights from the property as well, nor use the pool. The need to charge phones at the main lobby, and the dimly lit rooms add a great charm and character to the property. Will want to go there someday for a longer stay and actually enjoy the place!

We were here as part of a Sun Africa (Luxury Escapes) tour to see the chimpanzees at Kibale forest. We were warmly welcomed and taken to our individual cabin with a balcony and wonderful view of the jungle and lake in the background. The 4 poster bed had a mosquito net which was set up every evening. When we arrived we had a ‘free afternoon’ so we did an optional tour via the hotel…. A guided walk to Mohona waterfall. It was a long hike but very worth it! We swam and then our guide organised two motor bikes to take us back up to the hotel for a mere 8000 Ugandan shillings (about $4 AUS). The trip to the chimpanzees was amazing !!!very close to them and a lot of them jumping around, playing in the trees and screeching! The meals were all delicious . The pool area looked nice but we didn’t have time to enjoy it as we ere only there 2 nights. It was a short drive to the chimps so a good place to park oneself. Would go back !

Dear Bob & Monday- David & I are back in NYC discussing what a wonderful experience Papaya was from our safari in Uganda. The warm service you provided made the trip and the food was fantastic-best food from the whole trip. I could use some banana pancakes right now. And you PROMISED me the recipe for the Caramel Chicken from the Chef!!
For anyone reading this, don't miss out on this charming property. It is not only beautiful, but unique and comfortable. We would absolutely recommend this as a must stay. But be warned there are plenty of steps so it will keep you in shape!

Stunning property overlooking a crater lake. Monday and the rest of the staff were gracious and accommodating at every turn. Meals were delicious, fresh and creative.

Our quarters were privately situated and overlooked the lake and forest. As mentioned by another reviewer, there is no wifi or usb outlets in the rooms. All charging and access done in the lodge, which actually served as a plus for the most part. Usb would be nice as so many items cameras etc require such charging.

The pool is located on a separate terrace above the lodge making for more spectacular views.

The lodge is close to all the crater lakes, village activity and chimp trekking. The area is absolutely gorgeous, clean and lush. We found the locals to be friendly and inviting.

Can't wait to go back!

Papaya Lake Lodge was a beautiful lodge with a wonderful, caring staff. It was set up in the mountains nestled among the trees and foliage providing a secluded atmosphere where we had our very own cabin with a spectacular view. Lots of unique places to relax, the bathroom was set up nicely, and the walk to the cabins was beautiful. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were all provided. They also provide a robe for each guest as well as a net for mosquitos and turn down services. We were there in the rainy season, and never had any issues with mosquitos, however.

If you have trouble with stairs, be aware. Due to the nature of the lodge, there are a few you must climb to get back to the lodge. We didn't mind because the views were spectacular. The food was delish. The staff was very attentive to our needs. You do have to charge your devices in the lodge instead of the cabins. But again, this was not a big issue for us because we were not there to be on devices but to enjoy the beauty around us. It was not far from where we did Chimp trekking, so it was a convenient choice for us as well.

As I said before, we went during the rainy season, and had the lodge all to ourselves. When I asked about the rainy season, it seems like it may be like Florida...it rains a couple hours a day and then clears to beautiful skies. We were so happy we chose to go during low season. We loved how remote it felt as well as being the only guests at the lodge during that time. I highly recommend staying here if you get a chance.

I thought I had taken pictures of our cabin, but I had not. It was very nice and well appointed, though.

Stayed there as a family with 2 kids. It was wonderful and relaxing. it was my birthday and what an awesome place to spend there. Got a wonderful massage and had a relaxing day at the pool. Kids loved wandering around. Went on some nearby hikes. Every morning we ordered a 6.30 coffee, then walked down the path to the water's edge. Saw and heard wonderful birdlife. Owls just waking...then looking out on the lake. Even with the noise of 10 year olds a backdrop, what a beautiful place!

Absolutely recommend it. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. Atmosphere was excellent. Company also was excellent....:-)

This lodge is tranquil and every bit as beautiful as their photos would suggest. We had a wonderful stay. The management and staff were gracious, helpful and professional. The food was delicious, and the views were incredible. We would definitely recommend Papaya Lake Lodge to anyone visiting the Kibale National Park and Crater Lakes area!

What a beautiful lodge! We stayed here for 2 nights whilst travelling around Uganda and we loved it.
The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food was absolutely gorgeous and there was a good selection of wines available.
The rooms was well sized with a beautiful view of the lake.
The swimming pool was lovely to use to refresh and the views were incredible, especially watching the sun set.

Unfortunately, I don’t know. This stop was part of a package arranged by a travel agent—and we were in low season at Christmas.

Their website (if Tripadvisor allows this to get through) is all one word: papaya lake lodge. There is contact information there.
