Elsa’s Kopje is almost invisible to the eye as you approach its home on Mughwango Hill. It blends into the rocky crags of the "kopje" (small hill), built above the site of George Adamson's original campsite. Every cottage is the ultimate 'room-with-a-view,' uniquely designed and crafted, incorporating the natural features of the rocky hillside. There is also an open bar, lounge and dining room with an exceptionally inviting infinity pool overlooking the Meru plains.

We stayed at Elsa's Kopje in Meru National Park from the 18th Sept to 20th Sept 2019. On arrival at the Airstrip we were greeted by our Guide & Driver Wilson ,with his Trainee Benson, the Dynamic Duo I called them, they greeted us with a Cold Beverage & some light snacks...never been greeted like this on ANY safari ( And I have been on Many )...not at the Airport ...Class act. We drove to our Camp through the Park seeing many animals on the way, on Arrival we were greeted & Briefed by Zarek, the Manager , a very fine & knowledgeable young Man , who actually camped in this Park in his earlier days, & knew lots about the Wildlife there. The place has 8 cottages that have been built on this Rocky Hill ,& all the rooms have been incorporated into the rock ,No two rooms are alike. we had a beautiful room facing the Park & got to see the Glorious Sunrise from our Bed each Morning. The Food & Game Drives were just amazing saw all but the Leopard here...the food was all 3 course Meals & all Gourmet Food, it also has an Infinity Pool overlooking the Plains Of Meru. We also got to see some Fantastic Sunsets on our Sundowner Evening Drives, they would ask what we would like for our Sundowner's each day.A special thanks to my Bar Buddies Morris & Ephantus ,who always made sure my Glass was Full. Thanks to the Chef ,forget his name & all the staff there , truly a great Bunch & Zarek sure runs the place like a well oiled Machine...It was difficult saying Bye to all these wonderful people,,,,thanks again

We make an effort to provide small touches to set your experience here apart from other safari properties around Africa, so it’s great to hear that you appreciated them. I’ll be passing your regards to Wilson and Benson, Morris, Ephantus, Phillip, the Chef, and to the rest of the staff, who’ll all really appreciate this. We just hope we can see you back here one day! The experience at Elsa's Kopje was great! We were fortunate enough to fly into the dirt landing strip right next to the camp where our guide, Moses picked us up. Moses was a wonderful, friendly and very informative guide. He catered to everything we wanted to do and see. We had room 4, which was very close to the main lobby. The room was two stories, with the sleeping area upstairs and the bathroom downstairs. Its built into the side of the mountain, so the natural elements are very cool. One thing I wish I knew prior is that it is very hot in Meru. There isn't much relief at night as the wind doesn't blow through the tent as you might expect. So, plan for this. The dining and bar area was also very nice, where Joel and Morris took excellent care of us. The food here was excellent. Additionally, I had a massage. The massage room is open over the side of the mountain and there were monkeys hanging around and a bush buck walked by during my massage. The nature element was so unique and cool! The climate and scenery here was so different than the other places I stayed during the trip. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd recommend staying here if you'd like to experience different climates, animals and terrain than some of the other areas in Kenya.

Hi Ginny and Kelly Thank you so much for your review! We’re all so happy we were able to be part of making your time at Elsa’s such a special experience, and we hope it’s not the last time we get that opportunity! It was great to meet you both. I’ll be showing this to Morris, Joel, and Moses, and I know they’ll all really appreciate it. They, and the rest of the team here, work hard to ensure your time is memorable for all the right reasons, and they enjoyed connecting with you and showing you this beautiful part of the world. We love our little patch of paradise here in Meru, with all the hyraxes, bushbucks, and monkeys to keep us entertained. The lodge was built specifically to minimise its impact on those animals and the rest of the environment, blending in with the rocky hillside. You’ll be happy to know that it has rained here a little since you left, and the trees and bushes around the lodge all have leaves on them now! Thanks again, and we hope to see you here again before too long. Warmest regards Zarek and the whole Elewana Elsa’s Kopje Meru Team

We had a fantastic three days at Elsa Kopje. It is every bit as beautiful as the photos suggest. The Meru National Park is quiet and you see few people other than the hotel staff, guests and the park rangers. From the moment you arrive you are well treated with towels and a welcome drink. All of the staff were great and we had excellent service. The manager Zak came round at every meal time to check everything was ok and discuss our experiences. I was lucky enough to have a birthday while we stayed. The manager, chef and about ten staff came and danced round the table singing happy birthday and presented a lion birthday cake. My most memorable birthday. The rooms are all unique, private, spotlessly clean and well appointed with great views over the plains and of the morning sunrise. The food was of an excellent restaurant standard and there were always choices for each course. We don’t know how they managed this considering the location. Dining is at individual tables rather as a group, which we particularly liked. The safari drives were exceptional and we loved our guide George, who was knowledgable and respectful of the animals and environment. The drives were great value. The morning starts with coffee to the room at 6.00, out on the drive at 06.30 stopping for a bush breakfast at 09.00. Then carrying on until 11.30 or so. The afternoon drive from 3.45 always ended with a sundowner in the bush. The temperature was always warm enough to go out in shirt sleeves and shorts. We were lucky as it was quiet and we had the jeep just for the two of us. Saw plenty of animals. As our first safari, it exceeded all of our expectations and made subsequent lodges seem much less special. We went to another lodge after and were very disappointed in it following Elsa Kopje. The attention to detail and customer service were exceptional. We would thoroughly recommend.

Dear Ken and Caroline, We love to hear back from guests who have stayed with us, so thanks for leaving this beautiful review! We’re thrilled we were able to set the bar high at the beginning of your safari, and it wouldn’t be possible without the amazing team of staff here at Elsa’s who all put in such great effort to ensure your stay here is memorable. George, as you know, is a fantastic guide, and has been here since the very beginning, when the lodge was first opened in 1999, so he knows the park and its history like the back of his hand. He’s got a great sense of humour and is just a joy to be around. He’ll be so pleased to read your kind words about him, so thank you for that. Certainly one of the best things about Elsa’s is the location, with such great views out across the park from all the rooms, the pool, and the dining area. We love this place and we’re so glad you’ve been able to enjoy it here and hopefully take some of these memories with you for years to come. We do hope you’ll be back soon. Warmest regards, Zarek, George, and the rest of the Elewana Elsa’s Kopje Meru Team

This is one of the most incredible lodges I have ever stayed at on safari. First the design of the cabins and lodges are built into the hillside. You have rocks and trees inside your rooms which adds to the ambience. It sits on top of the Kopje (hill) and you can overlook the Meru National Park. The pool and dining area has the best view. The food is exquisite- fine dining with incredible wine. The service staff is some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. They are friendly, accomodating. The staff have been working at this lodge a long time and they work as an amazing team and family. The camp managers, George and Theresa are fantastic hosts. They have incredible experience and it shows. They are personable, friendly, accomodating and have fanastic stories to share. Then, the best part are the game drives around the lodge, you are not competing with any other lodge. The experience is very personal with the animals. This lodge is worth its cost and I would highly recommend it for anyone traveling to Kenya.

Dear KJ, Debbie and Amy Great to hear from you; we so enjoyed having the three of you with us, and hope that the rest of your safari went well. Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words and commendation of Elsa’s Kopje. The lodge design on the side of the rocky Mughwango Hill is definitely special and great care was taken to ensure the lodge, quite literally, blends in to its environment, using the natural topography as part of the rooms’ design. We’re also continuously working to become more eco-friendly, reducing our negative impact on the local environment. Elewana is very proud of our staff, and feel they play the largest part in making your stay special. We have such a hard-working, dedicated team here, from our guides, everyone in the dining area, and reception that you would have met to the myriad staff members in the background who keep things running smoothly on a daily basis. Each of them takes pride in making this lodge, and the experiences our guests have here, so memorable. We’re blessed to have Meru National Park mostly to ourselves; off the beaten tourist trail, a true wilderness completely bereft of mass tourism, and our guides have a passion for this area and the wildlife that lives here. We hope you’ll be back to visit us again before too long. With very best wishes from us all George & Theresa and all of the Elewana Elsa's Kopje Meru Team

This was our first safari and what a way to start. This is a truly awe-inspiring place and we absolutely loved it. The cottage we stayed in was absolutely fantastic. It had everything we needed, and stunning views over the Meru which I could see from my bed! The food was exceptional. What astounded me was how they managed this seeing as how remote we were. We were there 5 nights and never once was there a repeat of anything. This is truly unbelievable. The warmth from everyone we met at Elsa’s was so genuine and heartfelt it’s hard to put into words. From our hosts George and Theresa, to all the staff who went out their way to make us feel so welcome. Alex our head waiter was an amazing guy. He’s such a character. From his cheery “jambo” in the morning to the excellent service he gave us for the rest our meals. He’s a massive part of Elsa’, he’s been there from the very start! We had a massage from the wonderful phanice. She was absolutely lovely and I loved chatting to her about life. Such a fantastic lady. We were in no way ready to leave Elsa’s. My review can in way do justice to the feeling you get when you’re here. It’s a place that touches your heart.

Dear Ewart and Pamela WOW... the reviews submitted by you both are amazing, and so much appreciated! From our part; and I know I speak on behalf of everybody at Elsa's; we loved meeting you both and having you stay with us, and we thank you for choosing to spend time on your first safari in such a special place—Elsa's Kopje! Great that you were able to pick up a few Swahili words, we all love it when visitors do make the effort, as you both certainly did. Africa is indeed hopelessly addictive, as you have now discovered and unfortunately (or fortunately!) the only "cure" is to keep coming back to feed the addiction! Please keep in touch, especially as you plan your next trip to Kenya and we look forward to saying "karibuni tena!!" (welcome back!). With warmest wishes from all of the Elsa's Team
