We stayed at this hotel for a week while visiting friends in Abidjan and Grand Bassam. It was very comfortable, with spacious rooms, good AC, hot water, and a large firm bed. But what really stood out was the friendliness of the staff, always ready to help us. The breakfast buffet was good with a wide variety of options. Various croissants, French bread, 3 cold cereals, 2 hot cereals, 4 kinds of dried fruit, 3-4 fruit juices, fresh fruit, coffee and tea. There were also several hot dishes available, such as eggs, a meat dish, legumes, etc. and cold vegetables. We have stayed at hotels around the world and would be happy to stay here if we come to Côte d’Ivoire in the future. Merci beaucoup!

I was picked up from the airport in Abidjan by a driver from Afrikland. However, I was driven past Afrikland to a different hotel and was told that Afrikland did not have a reservation for me. I insisted on being taken to Afrikland where the reservation issues continued, but I was eventually given a room. The front desk staff did not speak English any better than I speak French. The second night, while I was washing, another guest was able to open my door with a keycard she obtained from the front desk, stating that she had just been assigned the room by the front desk. The room was small, but had a comfortable bed. The AC was not very strong. The wi fi was slow in the room during the day when the hotel holds conferences, which are apparently the most important part of its business. My deadbolt was broken. The only visible plug was for the mini fridge. The shower was open so the floor of the rest of the bathroom does get wet. At the restaurant, I found the selection for the included breakfast buffet to be small. At dinner, service was slow and the restaurant was out of bread for sandwiches. If I return to Grand Bassam, I would research other properties as I had higher expectations for this property in light of other reviews and the cost of the hotel.

The Afrikland is a no frills, basically furnished hotel. Good internet, clean sheets, air on and good shower. The building is need of some TLC with many cracks and fixtures needing attention but nevertheless it covers all the basics and the staff are very helpful. Well located a short distance from the beach and numerous restaurants.

I have stayed at this hotel twice in the last month for extensive business negotiations. It is very well suited for business: service is good, it is clean and comfortable and the food is good. The layout of the rooms, where the view out the window is just a little corridor of green to let light in, and then another row of rooms, isn't something that I would consider luxury and I wouldn't come back for a family or personal vacation. Also, it is a bit of a hike, on foot, to the beach. It was far enough that I never made it to the beach during breaks in the business meetings. Lunch buffet is nice, with a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. The catering for the business meetings was very nicely set up. The breakfast buffet is weak from my western perspective: a lot of local options, but I don't tend to be very adventurous for breakfast. Outside of local food, it was kind of simple: pastries, cereal and fruit. All in all, nothing particularly appealing for a 4-star hotel.

I have not stayed in a room here! It is considered the best hotel in Bassam. It is located across from the big market and near to the beach, so you can see some local culture just by walking out of the building. However, I know people who use the gym, and I have eaten in the restaurant. I'm told the gym is well-equipped, and even has a sauna and massage room. The lobby is clean and everything is always well-kept. The restaurant is EXCELLENT. Prices (as of April 2018) run between 10-15,000 CFA, which is comparable to the beach hotels, but the food is much better than the beach hotels. My workplace takes VIPs there for lunch. We went at 5 PM on a Friday. The restaurant was empty, but they have some tables set for whoever might come. We chose a seat by the window to watch people walk past. I ordered the recommended sole roulade, and my friend ordered the rabbit. The roulade consisted of three pieces of sole, each wrapped around shrimp, with copious amounts of very well-seasoned salsa-like topping. The rabbit was covered with a mustard sauce which was also delicious. Both were cooked well. There was a lot of local flavor in those dishes, but yet with herbs and spices not normally used (the sole had a nice taste of rosemary). It was a wonderful fusion. The alloco and rice are similar to alloco you get anywhere. Attieke is probably also the same, since it's never made on premises anyway. At the end, my friend ordered American-style coffee, but it was too strong for her taste. That was really the only complaint. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, and the staff was courteous but friendly. I will definitely come back for dinner! They say the kedjenou (a stew with fish or chicken) is also popular.
