My granddaughter and I have camped at Smokey Bear from anywhere from a 1 week to 2 months stay over the last 4-5 years. We tried one other campground in the area before finding Smoky Bear that boasted many activities for children. Those activities were provided at an additional expense...one being an arcade with faulty games that took our money but did not work. I was a bit concerned when I booked Smoky Bear for our second camping trip because I feared that my granddaughter would expect the same activities for children. She LOVED it immediately! Smoky Bear is basically one big rectangle with the playground, pool, shower and laundry facilities in the middle. I can see my granddaughter playing on the playground from any space we've reserved. Also, the owners work hard to meet requests of the campers like reserving a spot near the playground.

If you're a hard drinker and looking for a place to party all night, this is NOT the campground for you! Alcoholic beverages are certainly allowed as long as you're not the type of drinker who turns into a loud, obnoxious drunk. Quiet time is 10:00 but it doesn't mean that having quiet fun has to stop. It simply means that it's time to lower your voices and keep your children quiet in order to respect the other campers.

Pets are welcome which is a plus. Non-stop barking dogs are not allowed but all dogs tend to bark a little until they adjust to the daytime activity of seeing many other dogs and in the case with my dog...PEOPLE. It usually takes my dog a few hours to adjust to the change in scenery from home and he's fine. During the years I've camped at Smoky Bear for extended periods of time, I've never heard a dog bark past quiet time or when they are inside the campers.

Smoky Bear Campground is about a 15 minute drive to Gatlinburg and maybe a 25 minute drive to Pigeon Forge so if you want in the middle of the action at all times, this is not the campground for you. I love that we're close enough to the action to pick and choose our times for it and return to a nice peaceful campground. It's a very convenient location in my opinion. There's a couple of great markets and a Dollar General just a mile or so from the campground.

Smoky Bear seems to put kids first so if you have children and want your kids to have a great camping experience, this is the place for you. My granddaughter absolutely loves Klaire and Patrick and they are exceptionally good to her. I love they that don't hesitate to call her out if they see her stepping out of line when I'm trying to manage other things as it is a bit difficult at times since it's just the two of us. They aren't harsh but they enforce the rules which is a GOOD thing.

The wifi and cable has greatly improved over the years. Storms might knock it out for bit but it isn't long before it's back up and running.

Klaire and Patrick...Ava and I love you and appreciate your kindness SO very much!

We love Smoky Bear, the owners and all of the employees and will continue to camp there.

My sister and I and our significant others spent a week here. Management accommodated our requests to have adjoining sites. The campground and facilities were clean. I was really impressed with the bathrooms/showers. They had plenty of hot water, soap and paper towels by the sinks, and a seat in the ante-room next to the shower so you could sit to change, or pull it into the shower if you were disabled. I had forgotten to pack an electrical cord, and they loaned me one for the week. We borrowed DVDs; they had an impressive variety. They have wi-fi, though it occasionally dropped out and was not fast enough for streaming. We spent several hours in the pool, and relaxed in their spa. I would definitely camp here again.

My family of six, including two teenagers and two small children stayed the week. Beautifully maintained sites and amenities. It’s a smaller campground, but we really enjoyed that. Hardly any traffic through and it’s all paved, so kids can easily ride bikes around. The pool and playground were both well maintained and our younger kids enjoyed playing the corn hole games they had out for everyone’s use. They also had board games and a good assortment of dvds to play and watch. The bathrooms we’re probably the cleanest I’ve used at a campground. No shortage of hot water either. The staff were all polite and very knowledgeable about the area and places to see. We took their advice and saw several beautiful areas of the national park. If you have kids and want to avoid the hustle and bustle of gatlinburg and pigeon forge, but still be a close driving distance, this is your campground. We enjoyed it so much, we are coming back in November. I would highly recommend it!

Although the campsites are located near one another, they did not feel crowded. The setting is on a slight hill, providing a bit of a terraced feel to individual campsites, adding to a sense of privacy. The facilities, including the pool, showers, and restrooms, were spotless. The staff was helpful and friendly. All utilities were well presented; WiFi was strong.

We traveled with our grandkids to the Smokies, and used this campground as our base. It could not have been better. Our site was located close to the bathhouse and pool which was not crowded and very refreshing after long hikes. It was spacious enough to put up the extra tent next to our A-frame pop up and privet enough for our needs. The restrooms were kept nice, and laundry room also, and this was especially great to know during the times we are enduring now. The staff was friendly and they even will give curbside garbage pick up.
It was an hour drive to the Biltmore, which had started opening up again and we spent the whole day. The other days we spent in Gatlinburg or hiking on the waterfall hikes the staff suggested. As usual, we went to Cades Cove where we were able to take pictures of a momma bear and cub eating in the woods, and that was the grandkids hope. We all enjoyed the whirlpool after our trips. When we come back to the Smokies, we will camp here.

This small family run campground was a welcome respite from the crowds and hustle of Gatlinburg. Located east of town, the campground is close enough to the attractions if that's what you're looking for and far enough away to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. It's small but provides nice amenities such as a pool, playground with basketball court and lawn games. The sites are ample and generalyl well shaded. Cable TV and internet access were excellent making night time entertaiinment with two grandsons, 8 and 10 years old, a breeze.
All of the staff we encontered were friendly and helpful. All the guests we spoke to seemed to be enjoying their stay whether they were in one of the fully furnished cabins or in their RV
There is no shortage of choices of places to stay or camp in this area but we're glad we chose this one and will be back in the future.

Highly recommend! Great campground, well maintained, flowers and landscaping made it very welcoming, and the shade trees were great for a summertime visit. Management was hospitable, courteous and efficient. It was located the perfect distance from Gatlinburg so that we could easily drive into town, but enjoy some nature too. Will definitely stay here again!

We just checked into our sites which happen to back up to 321. Extremely noisy due to the traffic even at night when you would think it would be quieter. We can't even enjoy a campfire because the traffic noise is so loud. Also, website states "pet friendly". Your pets are welcome into the park however, be aware that there is no enclosed area to let your dog off leash. Furthermore, there is very little grass for the dogs to go potty, with the exception of one small patch of grass at the front entrance. So if you are looking for a place that provides peace and quiet and an area for your dog to play off leash, this is not the park for you. I will not be visiting or recommending this campground to anyone looking for those particular accommodations. Very disappointing and overpriced.

Response from Patrick O'Leary, Owner at Smoky Bear Campground & RV Park

Thank you for your review. We do not claim to have an enclosed pet area and yes, our campground is located on 321 ( a two lane road 13 miles from downtown Gatlinburg). I want our other customers reading this to know that most campers have no problems walking their dogs around the park and having campfires at night.

This campground had the most well-kept and cleanest campground bathrooms of anywhere we have EVER stayed. Showers were HOT ! Often in State campgrounds, they are warm at best.

The staff was very helpful, as were other campers who make this a yearly destination. All our "neighbors" introduced themselves, and one even alerted the owners when we were late arriving back from a hike. All were concerned due to the presence of bears where we were hiking.

This made our trip warm, personal and memorable. We will DEFINTELY return !
