Just returned from a week in cottage 409. If you want cozy and comfortable with everything you need, you will love this cabin. Sitting on the balcony over the stream will soothe all your cares away. It is not uber modern but I love simplicity with a touch of home. The furniture is somewhat dated but this added to the charm. We were close to everything we loved. Many good eateries and near Greenbrier . My golden rule on reviewing something is "Would I do this again?" My answer is yes!

Our family had trouble checking in due to the fact the person who made the reservations was in a different car that didn't arrive the first day...Okay, our bad, but the owners were extremely rude and uncooperative...very unlike the Carr's we remember...I guess 20 years of repeat business means nothing to the new owners. Our cabin #505 smelled terrible...we were there for four days and were unable to rid the place of the stench. The hide-a-way bed for the kids had absolutely no bedding (lucky we brought extra). No extra garbage bags for cleanup. We rented a family unit with three bedrooms and were informed we had ONE parking spot!!! The rest of the family vehicles had to be parked in other spots by the office. Carr's was never the most 'up-to-date' place to stay but the prices reflected that and the family atmosphere was unbeatable. The current situation is terrible...unbelievable prices for what you are getting, unfriendly service, etc. As a previous reviewer said "4 star pricing at a 2 star motel". Unfortunately, after two decades of family vacations, this year's late summer break will be our last at Carr's...

Upon entering the property, there was a residential house just as you turn the corner and boy oh boy was that an unpleasant sight to see with all their crap outside everywhere. Even their family cat ran across the road in front of us, trying to get to the cottage office. The motel section on the water did NOT look like the photos. Of course it was rather run down inside the actual unit. The person at the front desk was not upbeat or cheerful or anything, they were questioning whether or not it was me checking in for my own reservation, as my DL and my current address do not match. He looked like he didn't believe me but he carried on, asking me how I was to pay for the rest of my stay. Not how's your day or anything casual while checking me in. So yeah, getting into the room, it smelled like that old gross mop smell, like one that's been sitting and the floor, was NOT clean. I happened to drop a baby wipe on it, and as I dragged it with my shoe, it was FULL of dirt. I have 2 small children who needed to rest and relax and I was so skewed out after reviewing the area that housed the mini fridge and bathroom area due to its outdatedness, I stripped the beds to be sure there weren't nasty stains or something. That's the type of feeling I got when I arrived. I had to leave and come back to be sure it wasn't urine or something gross that I was smelling. So there was tons of garbage down by the waterside, and there was no mention of how to use the fire pits, or any of the amenities when I arrived so I basically just gave up. If you want a place to crash sure, stay there. Also, the house next-door to the motel area, has a dog and it would not stop barking the first night we were there. Beware. Oh, and the 1980's recliner chair should just be removed. It smelled so badly of musty odor and I had to cover it so my kids didn't climb on it. GROSS. Sadly, this place, as run down as it was, was only a little cheaper than a NICE hotel down the street. I was trying to support local, but there's a reason why my reward points in the chain hotels are what they are. I wish I spent the extra 40 dollars a night to not DREAD going back to this motel at the cottages.

I work in Gatlinburg but live out of county and have a long drive to work. Some times I stay Overnight in town to cut down on driving. Sevier county is suffering from a staffing shortage due to covid laziness and free government checks and needing every worker we can get to be at work. I stayed here last night and was going to stay for a second night. There are still three rooms showing available so I was going to book for another night. I called the front desk and was told to call back at 9am and they would bill me. Five minutes later I received a phone call letting me know that I was a local and that because of this they would not be renting me the room. I don’t understand why my money isn’t as good as someone from out of state. The guy was also very rude last night when I was checking in. I guess he isn’t as grateful as I would be if I had moved here from India and been given a free hotel by the U.S. Government!

Carr’s family no longer owned ! Prices are much higher. The hot tub was always cold and never smelled of choline, same with the pool. The owners and workers were rude, all except the only American lady working there. They would barely acknowledge you! The rooms could be cleaner. Ceiling fans caked with dust. Water in the cottage was burning hot! We stayed for a week in July, paying roughly $2000; for curiosity, I placed a week in September to see the rates- they want to charge me $3,000 for it! These are when rates are supposed to be down. So be aware rates are higher, pool not as clean ( I never seen them add chemicals), hot tub always cold and dirty, workers not friendly or welcoming. Thusly, we will not be returning. This is sad, seeing a came here as a child. Hoping they sell out and someone else takes over, and Carr’s becomes what it used to be. 💔
