Do not stay here, especially if you have asthma or any other respiratory conditions. When we arrived, we were greeted with a very damp, musty stench in the room. From there we came to find the room was barely cleaned, if at all. There were crumbs and garbage seemingly swept under furniture and bed skirts. The room was very poorly lit and I think the housekeeping was using that to their advantage. The air conditioner until was disgusting and dusty, which caused my wife's asthma to flair up. The bathroom had mold in the tub and around the window. Sheets on the beds were stained and yellow in color, pillows were also stained. To top it all off, when we went to tell the front desk about it, the worker simply took my card and refunded my money, leaving us without a place to stay. Honestly, she probably did us a favor. I understand you get what you pay for, but this wasn't just cheap or outdated, it was outright gross and hazardous.…
Easy walking to where the actions are. dated motel but clean and comfortable. reasonable price has queen beds (which is a plus). small restroom with low toilet (plush slow) but is OK. minimum amenities to use (I think not every day room cleaning. I stayed 2 days and the 2nd day not cleaning, however if you asked for, the towels will be replaced with fresh one). I ma OK with that because I do not want the room access any way. very decent place. will come back again.
It's a wonderful location - easy to walk to everything Gatlinburg without being right on the strip. Beyond that, it doesn't have much going for it. The staff made me feel like a burden, the room wasn't very clean, the hot water ran out, and the beds weren't the best. If you're looking for a "home base" for Gatlinburg, I'd keep looking. But if you want an inexpensive place to simply rest your head - then you've found what you need!
We spent a girls weekend in gatlinburg, and Mountain House Inn has a good location, with good pricing. The room was very dated and dark but clean. The shower was awful - it was boiling hot - to the point of burning yourself. And the slightest touch to move it changed it to freezing. There was no in between. Either so hot it made your skin red, or frigid cold. You absolutely could not adjust it. The fan in the bathroom did not work - and we called the front desk for more coffee but no one answered. The vent in the bathroom looked like it had never been cleaned. But being that this is one of the less expensive motels in the area, I guess you get what you pay for. I was just glad that it was close to everything and reasonably clean. The front desk rarely answers the phone. I called for hours when we tried to book, and finally was only able to book through Expedia, because no one ever picked up the phone at the hotel. The day we left, I realized I’d left something behind. I called a dozen times, and it would just ring and ring. When I finally got an answer, the front desk clerk was very rude and said I would have to call back in the morning. I said I’m sorry I left something and this is the first time I’ve been able to get an answer. He said - well, you will have to call when we are not so busy. I am sure by the time I actually get through again my item will be long gone.…
Hubby and I went to Gatlinburg for our anniversary in June. I hadn't written any reviews of our trip this time (we've been going for years), but decided I needed to put my two cents worth in after reading some reviews. We love Mtn House and don't stay anywhere else. Room was clean-and ready a little before 1:00 check in unlike last 2 visits-and always meets our needs. People who complain about the place being dated and a little worn would also complain about the rate increase that would be necessary to update the motel. People who complain about the outside noise are the same people who love how convenient it is to everything! When you stay in the middle of an always crowded tourist destination you're going to get some noise. If you don't like it, pay for one of the 100's of overpriced rooms available in Gatlinburg and then you can gripe about the price and distance from most attractions (and finding parking). For me this place is perfect and the price and location can't be beat!…
So sad to be leaving this bad review. We have stayed here 5 times. The first time was about 12 years ago. We found it by chance and loved the quiet area, the convenient location, and the spacious room, and the affordability. We haven't been to Gatlinburg in about 8 years and we were sad to see that Mountain House is going downhill. The property needs so much TLC. What used to be a quiet area is no longer quiet. Loud engine sounds come through at all hours - the trolley, the Anakeesta bus, delivery trucks, random vehicles. Everything is dated. Our room, and my in-laws' room, smelled very musty. My daughter picked up a plug-in air freshener at the grocery store otherwise it would have been unbearable. The microwave appears to be from the early 80s. It works fine though. The refrigerator worked fine; however, the door handle is on the same side - and fit very snugly against - the wall and you have to be careful not to scratch your knuckles on the wall when opening it. was fine, If you're tall, the water in the shower will hit you about mid-chest, but at least that's less of your body that will get frozen or scalded by the inconsistent water temperature. The bathroom itself is so teeny tiny that it's difficult to shut the door when you sit on the toilet. There was no cover on the overhead light (gross - see photo) and no fan in the bathroom. We couldn't even open the windows in there b/c the screen had been ripped out (see photo). My in-laws' room had several missing tiles in their shower along with mildew in the grout. It was almost comical that the space under the sink which holds the tissue box didn't even have a cover on it. Every time you grabbed a tissue, the whole box would fall down (see photo). I can't imagine that this would be hard or expensive to fix, which makes me wonder why "little" things like this aren't being tended to? Speaking of the sink, the faucet sprayed water everywhere. There is almost no room on the vanity as it is to put things (makeup bag/toiletries, etc) and even less room to put things where they won't get soaked with water. (see photo) In our room, the A/C was a window unit that displayed the degrees in Celsius, which isn't hard to operate once you figure that out. However, if you're standing at the sink or at the fridge/microwave while the A/C is on, you'll both freeze to death and be completely unable to hear anything going on in the main room. Speaking of the main room, it is very dark, even with the bedside lamp and the lamp over the table near the window. In our room, the lamp switch was broken off so we had to plug/unplug the lamp to turn it on/off. So many things need attention in this hotel. Maybe an easy thing to start with would be to replace the painting over one of the beds so there's not just an empty space bordered by screws on the wall. I packed light expecting to do laundry halfway through our trip as I always have on our previous stays at Mountain House. However I walked down to the laundry room only to find it locked. I could see through the window and it looked like someone was getting ready for a garage sale. The washer and dryer were piled high with random junk. Luckily I found a very nice laundromat a short drive away. The wifi was HORRIBLE. Completely unreliable, no matter what time of day we tried. I would love to see some improvements made to this hotel to match the friendly owners and great location.…
My friend & I stayed here during Halloween. We had a good stay. The room was comfortable & spacious. It was cold that weekend in the Smokies; the heat worked ok but not great. One thing I think that this the cause of this is that the door leading to the balcony was not properly insulated enough, so cold air was coming into the room. But overall not a bad stay; just need to update the rooms somewhat & do some maintenance in the rooms.
We stay here every August for our anniversary. Awesome people, they are very friendly. I also brought my daughters here and we stayed last month to go Aquarium. They enjoyed their stay also, 2 pools.!
Located close to Downtown Gatlinburg. Clean Room. WiFi is not secure and very limited TV Channels. (ESPN did not work). Very noisy on 2 of three nights spent there. No night security at this Inn. Caused 2 nights to very little sleep.
When we checked in the lady at the desk told us she up graded our room to a big room but we couldn’t use the jet tub in the room because it leaks to the next floor. Which suck but we thought that’s ok. Well then we get in the room and there’s dirty towels still hanging on the hooks and the room looked dirty. We also found out that the refrigerator didn’t work so when I told the man at the front desk about it he got and attitude with me and said I guess I’ll have to call someone. Which he never did. So we pretty much figured out we got up graded to a crappy room that they wouldn’t be able to rent out. Never again will we stay at this dump.
