An unplanned stay became a memorable experience. As a walk-in customer at a small motel in a very small town, I did not have high expectations. Starting with the pleasant check-in experience (thank you for being Covid safe!), and the surprising minimart (filled with organic and sustainable snacks!), charming patio area, my expectations rose. Then I opened the door to a comfortable room with quality bedding and towels, dog-friendly flooring, many obvious updates and a few good-old roadside motel signs of the long history of the place. A dark and quiet night's sleep in a pristinely clean room - definitely worth more than we paid as off-season tourists. We'll have to make a trip back in season - the attached restaurant looks like it's worth a visit and it was closed for the winter. …
LOVE THE STARGAZER INN at BAKER, NV. The owners name is Jake and he is an exceptional human being. I left my purse at the motel and he mailed it to me the next day. They don’t make people like Jake anymore. The motel is clean and is in very close proximity to the Great Basin National Forest.
Stayed 3 nights while visiting Great Basin Park. Very close to entrance. Room 1 Need to grade this place on the curve. It is in a very small town with few other options. Pluses; clean, quiet, comfy bed, close to park. Nice restaurant for evening dining next door (on the 4 days a week it is open) So so; hot water takes several minutes to warm up, shower needed repairs, very slow WiFi, cooling is adequate on hot days but is controlled centrally, not at each room. Just set expectations that this is an older place and not something modern. If you do, then you will be satisfied.
I stayed in the family room which had 2 double beds and a twin. It was very clean and comfortable. No way to control the a/c and it was a bit stuffy but they provided a big fan which made sleeping very comfortable. The attached restaurant served delicious food! I had the burger and brussel sprouts. I can't forget to mention the fantastic peach mule! More, please!! There are 2 resident hairless cats who come by to say hi if you are eating in the little patio near the rooms. A couple next to us were going to view the Milky Way at Mather overlook that evening. Maybe next time before I have a cocktail!
Motel was clean with a comfortable bed. Room #1 was small, but adequate for a couple for one night. Laminate flooring was clean and well cared for. Shower had an old tile job and paint looked like it had several coats on it. But it was clean. Toiletries were really nice. Evaporative cooler didn't cool as well as we would have liked, but once nightfall came, the room cooled down. Restaurant next door not open the night we came so can't comment on it. All in all, a clean comfortable place to stay very close to the park we came to see. A dead bolt on the door would have been preferred. And the fan was greatly appreciated!
