Detailed Reviews
I've wanted to visit a ranch to ride horses in the mountains for a few years and finally got it together this year. After searching the internet sites of ranches in Colorado and Montana, a friend recommended Lost Creek Ranch and its site seemed well suited for my wife and I. After the first 2 days there, I emailed my friend and told him the recommendation was great and I was going to sell my house to stay the summer! Seriously, we couldn't have had a better experience and will definitely go back. The horses were well behaved, the wranglers a hoot and very helpful, the trails seemingly endless, the scenery unmatchable, the food fantastic in every respect and, most of all, the staff was very friendly, welcoming and fun to be around. We rode, white water rafted, shoot skeet, ran through the mountains, swam in the pool, lifted weights in the fitness center, slept really well and continued to marvel at the country side and hospitality of the folks at Lost Creek. As an aside, the quality of the staff is not an accident - the management of the ranch, wranglers and kitchen are all 3 well accomplished professionals who really understand what makes a difference to their guests and make it clear they really care about their guests having a good time. We are both 60 but noticed the younger guests and children were all enjoying themselves too.

Our annual mother/daughter trip landed us at the Lost Creek Ranch in June of 2012....a trip that has been in my "bucket list" for some time. From the time we got off the plane - to the time they dropped us off to get ON the plane, out experience was first class - simply superb. Food was exemplary, chef and wait staff absolutely excellent. Management, wranglers, spa treatments, housekeeping....entire staff was accomodating with a "can do" warm and friendly attitude that made us feel very special and pampered. We had the time of our lives. Our horseback adventures to the top of Shadow Mountain, including the team penning, to the disco dance at night, magical and just a lot of fun. Whew....what a time we had!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! This trip was the best vacation I ever had. Sheri from Wisconsin

Something for everyone, and every age ... and each and everything offerred done at top quality, with sweet sensitivity, and tremendous competence. From the horsebackriding (Thank you, Marv, for getting me - an 'older' generation grandma happily on a horse after 40 years!! - AND for imaking sure that the entire rest of my family got their own individualized and perfect Wranglers, horses, and riding experiences..), to the Spa (Thank you Amber, for your wonderful body work, as well as your attentiveness, responsiveness, and flexibility - and all the time with that wonderful Spa 'addition' - your sweet smiling baby, Iris....), to the management (Thank you, Cookie, for your reassuring support in trying new challenges - or not...), the kitchen staff, the room cleaners, maintenance, John, our hiking guide, Ashlee, the photographer (We thought we had enuf pictures on our own, but her expertise, and, fortunately, our decision to work with her, added even another dimension to our being at Lost Creek).......
And this doesn't even speak of the majestic Tetons, and the incredible environment - doesn't mention the setting, the buildings, the cabins, the furnishings, and certainly doesn't mention the surrounding area (Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, etc.). WOW.
Lost Creek gave us a beautiful and incrdible way to mark a special occasion with our family - the stuff memories are definitely made of. Our group couldn't think of a singel negative when it came to filling out a
final evaluation. Only one we could come up with - offerred by our 11-year-old Grandson, was that we had to leave. All the rest of us agreed wholeheartedly.

We stayed here in August with our 4 children. I must say this was one of our favorite all time trips. Lost Creek Ranch was beautiful with superb service. The guests were all very friendly and my children bonded with the other children. When we left we exchanged phone numbers and email addresses with the the other guests. The horseback riding was incredible. There were many different trails and the scenery is breathtaking. The food was good but not gourmet. We did enjoy almost everything we ate.
The only negative thing was that we had to end our trip! My children cried and are still begging us to go back.

Went to Lost Creek during an adults-only week with 15 women. Wrangling us was harder than wrangling the horses, and the staff handled our group beautifully! Friendly, warm, knowledgeable, and FUN!
The cabin is basic but very comfortable (it's a dude ranch after all!). We wanted the "real deal" and we got it. We had experienced riders in our group and some who had never so much as sat on a horse. A HUGE "Thank You" to Kayla, Meg, Patrick (amazing photographer. Buy his pics!), Anthony, Dylan, Spencer, Emily, Maddie, Izzy, Hazel, and all the others who made our trip exceptional.
We are a well traveled group and we all left saying that this was in our top 3 adventures of a lifetime. The staff, food, activities (Team Penning is a must), scenery, line-dancing, hiking... it was tough to leave. Working on going back with my family next summer so they can experience the magic!
Thank you!!!!
P.S. Note to upper management: please get a new hot tub!

I really hate having to write this review because the staff and wranglers at LCR were almost uniformly sweet and hard-working but after a week here, with my husband and three kids (6, 7, 9) my headline is: avoid.
First, the good - as mentioned, the staff is super super sweet. The food is excellent and almost too plentiful, though they aren’t totally equipped to handle allergies (or perhaps just a dairy one). And the plant walk, country dance night, and Snake River Float (the last even in driving rain) were great. And most importantly, most of the wranglers were lovely with the kids - in attitude, and in making room for them to stretch their riding abilities.
(Also, one of the wranglers doubles as the house photographer; we had already gotten pictures done this year but even so, purchased his set. If you are able to, wait for him. His work is great.)
But - the ranch is very disorganized. Multiple times activities were canceled or the times were changed (sometimes due to totally foreseeable weather) without a heads up, which makes planning a day with kids difficult (this meant we were actually showing up for activities all suited up and ready to go only to be informed they were canceled, rather than receiving a phone call, text or visit to our cabin to let us know). Even activities that were on were changed - eg my kids kids and I arrived at one ride, that was supposed to be intermediate (trotting) and they placed a beginner on it so we did a slow walk instead. After several episodes like this we spoke to the general manager who was relatively responsive to the problem, but we shouldn’t have spent half our vacation like this first.
And while the riding may be great for beginners - my kids have been riding for about 8 months and learned to canter here - as a rider who has logged many hours in the saddle (some on Equitours recommended trips/ranches), it was disappointing. There is a limited amount of trail appropriate for cantering. Each person is assigned a horse for the week; mine was ok but most of them were sway backed and slow. Rides that are advertised as two hours almost always took an hour and a half.
Which wouldn’t seem like much of a problem if there was other stuff to do - and perhaps when there isn’t a pandemic there is. But the ranch is not mask mandatory, so if you have unvaccinated kids, and are cautious, that means no spa, no sauna, no meals inside, no kids club. (They have outdoor dining but only if the weather holds so we ate a bunch of meals around the coffee table in our cabin). There was one kids club that was all outside, a Junior Wrangler program. It was billed as three hours of lassoing, tacking, bareback riding, and had to be modified for the rain - but ended up being a few minutes of lassoing and tacking and then about an hour of kids mucking stalls. (For context, my kids go to a kind of dinky riding camp and on rainy days, in addition to barn work, they do horse related trivia, arts and crafts like making mop horses and painting horse shoes etc.) The night of the kids cookout, though it didn’t rain, they did it inside because it was forecast to earlier in the day, which meant that our kids couldn’t participate (and we didn’t get a break). Again, they didn’t let us know in advance that they changed it to be inside, which means we pumped up the kids only for them to return to our cabin disappointed 20 minutes later.
There is a hot tub, which would have been great, but it was broken the week we were there. When we asked a staff member about the tub they said it would be great if we asked the ranch managers/owners to get a new one because it was 40 years old and always breaking down. This brings me to the facilities, which are cozy but bare boned (e.g., uncomfortable mattresses and mice in the cabin.) This (the bare bones; not the mice) is what we wanted but I mention it because this ranch is about 30 percent more expensive than its peers and other guests may be looking for more up to date digs, especially if they will be spending a lot of time in the cabin with their kids.
My understanding is that the ranch’s owner died a few years ago and the current family trust that owns it is trying to sell. It feels like they are cutting corners to increase profitability but that’s speculation.
There are a number of options in the area; next time we will, unfortunately, look elsewhere.

Best family vacation we’ve ever taken! The service was impeccable! The staff was so sweet, helpful and went above and beyond for our family. The food was exceptional...I was really impressed by the quality of the food and dining experience. The wranglers were awesome and so patient with our kids. My spa experience was top notch. And my son LOVED Miss Hazel and the others at the kids club. Lastly, Kayla was wonderful at helping us plan our activities and making sure we made the most of our time there! Oh and the scenery...GOD’S COUNTRY...looked like a green screen...unbelievable. We will be back!

Wow, where do I begin?
Upon on our arrival to Lost Creek Ranch we were met by Stacy and Shannon at the front desk. We received a very warm welcome.
Stacey carried our luggage from our vehicle to our cabin and made sure we were totally comfortable.
The meals were mostly off a menu, THE BISON FILET was outstanding. All meals were exceptionally good. Lost Creek Ranch employees were not only friendly, professional and caring, but made you a part of the ranch , not just a 5 star quest. Never in our 53 years of travels have we ever received such a warm feeling of being a part of something. WONDERFUL is not close to disguishing Lost Creek Ranch. Employees from the front desk, to the wrangler, to the kitchen and spa, all hand picked by Dylan King, the manager were first class. We take our hats off to all of you at Lost Creek Ranch and look forward to staying again. EVERYONE should add Lost Creek Ranch stay to their BUCKETLIST!

We took our family of 5, including a 16 yr old boy, a 15 yr old boy and a 12 yr old girl, to the ranch for a week and had a fantastic vacation. The staff was terrific and the food was outstanding. For folks from the east coast, we got into the cowboy scene pretty quickly and were able to have some great experiences: toured Yellowstone, hiked in the Grand Teton National Park, whitewater rafting on the Snake River, shot skeet, went horseback riding up to the top of Shadow Mountain for a cookout, went to the Jackson rodeo, rode horses on trails, went fishing, got a massage, learned how to pen steer, and saw lots of wildlife (bear, bison, elk, eagles, coyotes, etc.). The real difference in our trip was the staff at Lost Creek. It's small enough where we got to know the staff and their hospitality was exceptional. It was the best vacation we've taken to date. We can't recommend it enough!

Lost Creek is a most beautiful ranch! The staff was exceptional; getting to know us and treating us like royalty, yet family. With late night access to the pool/hot tub we saw the most amazing night skies with more stars than you could ever wish on!
