We’ve stayed here many times. We love that is is on the lake and that they are dog friendly. The staff is always exceptionally friendly and helpful. But this year our suite was SO filthy…I was really shocked. I totally understand that it is hard to retain good help right now and that they cannot deep clean every week but yikes. Dead bugs and mud in the door track…so gross. Dirty dishes in the cupboard, so much dirt and dust around the beds. Plus, the screens to the balcony were so full of holes we could not have the doors open without bugs coming inside. I will say, the bathrooms were very clean. These are expensive accommodations. For the price I expect more. We were really disappointed and I’m not sure we will stay here again.
My granddaughter and I stayed four nights. We loved the room. It had a great view of the lake and was very dog friendly. There was even a washer and dryer which came in handy. We will definitely go back again.
My husband and I rented a one bedroom suite for a long weekend and loved it. It's even doggo friendly. Located right in downtown Grand Marais! It was clean, quiet and there was a sunken tub in our bathroom, which was great. Literally, can't beat the view and being able to walk down to the water from our front door (we were on the ground floor). Will definitely stay here again!
We stayed for 3 nights in a 1 bedroom suite in Feb 2022. Loved that it was more like an apartment than a hotel room. Full kitchen was awesome & a super comfortable sofa & furniture to watch TV/movies & sleep. Don't find that very often! King bed was also very comfortable! Beautiful views from the bedroom & main room. Very close to food/gas & snowmobile trail system. Check in/out was very easy. We've been coming up to Grand Marais/Gunflint trail for 21 years.... this is the most comfortable place we've ever stayed!
We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite for 4 nights in late January. The suite was clean and comfortable, and seemed recently updated. The view of Lake Superior from the balcony was gorgeous, the full kitchen was well stocked. We even had a washer and dryer in our suite! They are following Covid protocols, but have a great system for contactless updating of amenities within the suite. The hotel is conveniently located in downtown Grand Marais. We could easily walk to the grocery, restaurants, and stores. Within 20 min drive of hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and skiing areas.
I've stayed here before and have always been completely satisfied. But I did wonder how in the "Time of the Covid" things had changed. Actually, everything was about the same. Good people and good organizations rise up in times of stress and that is what we have here. I showed up 2 hours early and asked if I could check in anyway. The courteous young lady in reception did some checking and told me with a smile my room was ready and waiting. Not only was it waiting it was absolutely scrubbed and spotless. I've seldom found cleaner accommodations. If you are looking for a quiet, slightly up scale place to unwind in a beautiful location, look no further. Full disclosure, Grand Marais is always quiet, but it is exceptionally quiet right now. I like that.
Location: The property is located in downtown Grand Maris right on the shore of Lake Superior. Lots of free parking directly in front of the hotel. Easy walking distance to most of the downtown shops and restaurants. Public areas: The front desk doubles as a gift shop and also had snowshoes and other recreational items available for guests. There’s also a nice lobby/sitting area with a fireplace. The front desk staff was very helpful with questions and recommendations. During our stay, some of the exterior siding was being replaced, but it didn’t cause any disruption to our stay. Very dog friendly with paw cleaning stations at the doors and food and water bowls in the room. Room: Our room was a three-bedroom suite which we were sharing with another couple. Two of the bedrooms were furnished with twin beds and shared a common bathroom. The master suite had a king bed and its own full bath. The couch in the living room also could be converted into a bed. The kitchen was nicely equipped with serving items, utensils, and most of the commonly needed cooking implements. The entryway closet also had a washer/ dryer combination unit. Our suite had stone floors with underfloor heating, which makes sense for keeping the suite clean, considering that a lot of guests would likely be involved in outdoor activities and tracking in dirt. Wi-fi worked very well with no connection problems. We enjoyed our stay so much that we made another reservation for the same time next year. …
Our stay at East Bay Suites was absolutely wonderful. The room was full of all the amenities we needed (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, coffee maker with coffee, waffle maker, dishes to eat and serve). Definitely exceeded expectations and took efficient steps to ensure the room was clean and to reduce contact during the pandemic. Will be returning.
Nichole at the front desk is always so gracious and positive...such a nice welcome after the drive from the Twin Cities. We've stayed in both a one bedroom (without the kids) and a two bedroom (with the kids) and the accommodations have been excellent - very clean and very equipped - everything you need to cook meals in, full sized fridge, dining table, cutlery and glassware - even stemmed wine glasses. Plenty of room to stretch out and relax after a day skiing and the tvs are great for movie viewing. It's quiet, peaceful yet in the heart of beautiful and quaint Grand Marais. We stayed over the New Year and I'm calling now to book another ski trip in February. Thank you East Bay Suites (and Nichole) for a great stay!
Lovely studio overlooking the big lake, brought up plenty of food & beer so we could relax and not worry about take out. We actually had the Fireside room both nights to ourselves and sat in front of the fireplace with a couple of beers and enjoyed!
