Love the history here and would’ve been happy with a mediocre burger, but we were so surprised with how good the food was! We came by just for dinner because we love seeing the lodges on the Gunflint Trail. We had meatloaf, ribs, and chicken and it was all delicious! The salad was fresh greens and the bread.... oh the bread, warm, fresh baked, and so good! Look forward to coming back for food and a stay!!
This was our first vacation at Loon Lake Lodge and we leave feeling like we discovered a hidden gem. To say we completely enjoyed ourselves is an understatement. So many wonderful things to share: All the cabins are the original log cabins and have character. We stayed in the well appointed Cabin #6. Beautiful views from the deck with a walk down to a grassy area for corn hole, games, fire and the docks. The cabin has a bed in the front porch which was fun to listen to the loons and wake up to the views of the lake. We also have a kitchen, living room area for our chats and a table for playing our heated card games. The lake is beautiful and the lodge supplies for guests use kayaks, canoes, stand up paddle boards, swimming dock and a lily pad. We also rented the pontoon for a day and enjoyed the time out on the lake. We heard there are lots of great fish to be caught yet too! 😉 Sunsets are beautiful! The Diamond Willow Dining Room was delicious, both for dinner and breakfast. We enjoyed delicious ribeye steak and walleye! Imagine 2 teenage boys enjoying as much as they can eat prepared fresh for breakfast. Derek is a great chef! The icing on the cake are the hosts and owners! We believe our experience was much in part to the environment Derek, Andrea, Dax and Otis have created here, a relaxed family environment. They feel like friends you’ve known for years the first time you meet them. We leave recharged and refreshed, and will definitely return! …
My husband and I enjoyed another great stay at Loon Lake Lodge. We've stayed at Loon Lake Lodge in the summer before, and this was our first time staying in late October... so winter up on the trail :) The Shack is super cozy in the winter - we enjoyed making a fire in the big stone fireplace each night. I also loved sitting in the recliner next to the big window overlooking the lake while drinking a cup of hot coffee every morning. The Shack is stocked with books, DVDs, and the wifi works great - but this is also a great place to unplug. It is a cozy, peaceful, and serene place to spend a winter weekend.
Starting with Location Location! and continuing with service, quality of meals!, sweetness of the children and parents, skies so full of stars that your eyes cannot take them all, everything was wonderful, perfect, amazing.
End of August was a perfect time to enjoy peaceful mornings and cool temperatures to start the grill for burgers. Cabin #4 best for a couple, as we laid back and plan out some hiking to Honeymoon Bluffs and visit the museum at the end of the Gunflint Trail. Enjoy the break from phones and TV and the city noises.
