We had a fantastic stay! Andrea and Derek were the perfect hosts. The cabins and grounds were very nice, and the food was amazing!! The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and there are plenty of great hiking trails. We hope to make it back next year.

The experience was exactly as advertised. Derek and Andrea are amazing, unassuming, casual hosts. Their hospitality made the trip very relaxing. As noted the cabin was rustic w/ minimalist furnishings, clean w/ great view! The meals were excellent.

Andrea and Derek are great hosts and go out of their way for their guests. Plenty of things to do as the resort has a lot of options for its guests to use on the lake. The Hydro Bikes are really fun to use. We stayed in cabin #3. Perfect amount of space and items for two people. Cabin was clean and in order. Take-n-bake pizzas are really tasty. We did not eat at the lodge.

i enjoyed staying in cabin 1. The view was spectacular and i enjoyed 5 sunsets there. The owners and their kids were just the friendliest and very hard working people. i found the area there to be magical. The stars at night, with the Loons calling was perfect.

Whether your goal is to unplug, meditate, read and relax, or to hike the many trails on the Gunflint and swim or paddle all day, Loon Lake Lodge is the perfect respite. We stayed in Cabin Six with our wire hair fox terrier Riley who enjoys hiking, kayaking, and campfires as much as we do. The log cabins face the water and have all the amenities you want and need for a carefree stay. The lodge's newly-expanded gift shop is beautiful, and retains every ounce of the original rustic architecture and charm--returning guests will be blown away!

Loon Lake Lodge's only winter cabin-The Shack is a fabulous full log cabin built in the 1940's. Set high on a hill overlooking wild Loon Lake, it is a quiet and private setting that brings peace and serenity to it's guests. There is a wonderful wood burning fireplace with great easy to burn aged wood provided. You have Stunning views of the winter birds and Loon Lake beyond. Andrea and Derek Hofeldt along with their 3 boys Otis, Zak and Niles are the perfect hosts and very friendly. They treat you like family. Cabin has everything you need and is very warm even in subzero temps. There is a magical silence here that is hard to believe. You can ski right out your door as Loon Lake Road is groomed and leads to the Border Route Trail. Tons of winter activity options nearby on the famous Gunflint Trail. There is strong uninterrupted WiFi which is rare up here. The Shack is ideal for couples or families and it will rejuvenate your mind, body and soul.

We stayed in The Shack in August for four nights, and are hoping to return again this summer. Andrea and Derek were amazing hosts, and we all loved free unlimited use of the kayaks and canoes, etc. We had a wonderful time. We saw eagles, loons, and a family of beavers while canoeing. Although I had to do some work during the vacation, the WiFi was perfect, allowing for uninterrupted work and WiFi calls.

This was our second stay at Loon Lake Lodge. We are a family of four plus two dogs and we stayed in cabin 7. We saw fantastic fall colors end of September/early October. Our daughters used the water bikes and swam off the dock on September 30th! We hiked a couple of trails and had great food at Gunflint Lodge, Hungry Jack and Poplar Haus. The cabin had everything we needed to cook a few meals there as well. We missed out on breakfast at the lodge this time, which was our loss, but had delicious egg dishes and Swedish pancakes last time. My husband went grouse hunting with our dogs and we saw a ton of wildlife along the Gunflint Trail and the dirt roads off of it. I enjoyed happy hour on the private dock and cooking dinner and s’mores over the campfire. The beds were very comfortable and it was nice to have the windows open for that fresh fall air. The cabin has good WiFi which is super convenient but we also like that we don’t have cell service while we’re out exploring so our kids aren’t glued to their phones. Both times we’ve stayed here our teenage daughters have asked us rebook before we leave. During our first stay this spring our girls got hooked on Scrabble (it was provided in the cabin, along with puzzles and books) so we had a good rematch this time. Loon Lake is a quiet, relaxing getaway in the woods for us. The cabins are almost 100 years old so it just creates a cool atmosphere but it has all the conveniences….like a nice, hot shower. We will definitely be back.

Unwound over a nine-night stay in Cabin 4. The cozy comfy bed seems to float in the water with the fantastic view front and center along with calls of loons, fresh breeze, and beautiful sunset. Comfy sturdy and perfectly rustic cabin furniture. All appliances worked great. Nice shower. Wonderful deck and private dock for cocktails, cards and games, and ukulele playing. Bag of fresh ice awaiting in the freezer. Superb breakfast in the lodge (order ahead/extra charge). Played all day along the shore with our pup, kayaked and watched beavers playing near their den right on Loon Lake. The lodge also has a decent c library of books for both adults and kids. Came home with a jacket, t-shirt, coffee mug, and other finds from their gift shop. Trail Center is so close with awesome dining, and Honeymoon Bluff is just one of many great nearby hikes. They have a wonderful repeat clientele whom we always enjoy conversing with. Overall this is a historic property --- the real deal -- run by a super friendly and professional couple. This was our 6th or 7th visit, and will not be our last!

Just returned from a weeklong stay at Loon Lake Lodge & cannot wait to return! Derek, Andrea, & their sweet boys treated us so well during our stay. Our cabin (#3) was extremely clean & ready for our stay. The bed was very comfortable, the water pressure was strong & the water was hot (when needed). We had all the dishes, utensils, pots, pans, towels, & dish clothes we needed to make our stay seamless. We also appreciated the binder which provided suggested things to do, a history of the cabins, & menu options. We took one of the two fishing boats out one morning & were impressed with how user friendly it was to operate. The boats and motors are new & do not require priming/choking so nothing to fear about flooding the engine, getting stuck, & having to wait before trying to start the motor again. The pontoon is new, too, & is a beauty. We’re happy to say we accomplished our goal to disconnect from the noise & busyness of daily life & to plug into nature thanks to the location of the Lodge & cabins. As a sidenote, the Lodge provides free WIFI which we found to be very strong for the few times we used it. While the cabins & Lodge do not have AC units, we found this charming & in keeping with the character of these nearly 100 y/o cabins. Besides, we spent most of our time outdoors: hiking, fishing, reading, canoeing, & sitting on the porch. We highly recommend staying at Loon Lake Lodge while exploring the beautiful nature of the Superior National Forest & the Gunflint Trail!
