My husband, grandson, and son-in-law spent 5 wonderful days at GBCI at the beginning of July. Curtis and the staff (especially Jana) went above and beyond to make sure our stay was "the trip of a lifetime." Looking forward to returning for our 3rd annual trip next summer!
When I first read about Glacier Bay Country Inn online, it sounded almost too good to be true, but now I've been there and I can report that our experience even exceed our high expectations! The difference here are the people who run the inn, including the owner Curtis and his family, and everyone who works there. We felt so special! You feel like they've just been waiting for you to arrive and they do everything in their power to make your time in Gustavus wonderful. We enjoyed the firepit and covered patio every day, visiting with other guests and just relaxing, and the food...oh the food is something I will always remember! Everyone looks forward to the three-course dinner and the fresh homemade bread every night! And then the breakfast with the fresh homemade donuts, oh my goodness! We also enjoyed the tours that were part of our package and oh by the way, the staff at Glacier Bay drives you there and picks you up/drops you off at the airport! We stayed 3 nights and we wish we had booked a longer trip at this lodge. So yes, believe all of the amazing reviews of this place, and don't hesitate to go!…
If you are looking for a way to unplug and get in touch with nature, this is the best place to do it. Located in a tiny hamlet called Gustavus, AK about a 20 minute plane ride from Juneau, the Glacier Bay Country Inn is the perfect base in which to begin your Alaskan adventure. The family-owned inn takes everything into account. We booked the 4-Day Combo Adventure Package and we didn't have to plan a single thing. We were delivered and picked up for every excursion. The guides were all experts in their fields and so engaging. Natalie was our fire-cracker, fresh-water fishing guide, Steven took us on an amazing kayak trip and hike and Allen was the bomb on our halibut trip! We spent our 4th day on a National Park guided tour through Glacier Bay NP! Breakfasts are made to order, homemade donuts, fresh bread for toast and literally the best bacon I've ever had. Lunches are usually brown-bag as you will be off on some adventure in the National Park! Fresh-baked cookies, chicken salad with crunchy bits of apples and veggies in the mix, all on sandwich rolls made fresh by the in-house chef! Dinner... where do I even start??? During breakfast you will find a small card with the nightly dinner menu on it. Everyone is given 2 choices of an appetizer and 2 choices for dinner. They were all nothing short of spectacular. The roasted mushroom bisque and crab bisque rivaled soups I have had at some of the best restaurants in Orange County, CA. The Halibut Rockefeller was probably 2 inches thick and cooked to perfections. Other options we enjoyed were Dungeness crab, shrimp scampi, and prime rib. The piece de resistance were the desserts... all homemade, delectable and the perfect ending to dinner. (The caramel sauce was to die for!!!) Book a trip here... the memories will last a lifetime.…
We had the privilege of staying at the Glacier Bay Country Inn in June of 2021. My father and two sons went with me. The staff is second to none. We really enjoyed the extremely comfortable accommodations. The on-site chef created extraordinary meals that we all devoured. The itinerary they planned for us was perfect to maximize our time. My boys loved the on-site game room that entertained us for hours. I still laugh to think of my dad playing my boys in ping pong. If you want to blown away by impeccable service, amazing food, extremely comfortable accommodations, and the most beautiful scenery on earth then do yourself a favor and book your trip ASAP. You will not be disappointed. We were able to catch our limit of halibut and salmon, which we now pull from our freezer to cook up and it is delicious!!!! There is no better option and I’m already looking forward to going back. Brad C.…
I went to Glacier Bay Country Inn for my 40th birthday and it didn’t disappoint. The Inn is located in a small Alaskan town thriving with wildlife and opportunities for adventure. The accommodations were comfortable, the staff was attentive and welcoming, and the food was phenomenal. The staff is very knowledgable about the area and willing to help with any adventure. Alaska has always been on my bucket list; Glacier Bay Country Inn made my experience remarkable and memorable.
I just returned home from GBCI and I can honestly say that I'm sad to go. I stayed two nights in the lodge and three nights in a cabin with my dad and two brothers. The lodging is great and the staff are very accommodating. To ask for more than they deliver would simply be unreasonable. Thanks to all the staff who remembered our drink preferences and had them at our table at dinner time, who brought drinks and ice to our room without being asked, specially packed our fish, shuttled us around on trips to the store etc. etc. Everyone at GBCI made my family fishing trip extra special. Then there's the food...you'll be well fed. Dinners are gourmet and breakfasts offer a variety of great food to get your day started. In my case, lunches were packed to take fishing and include a sandwich, chips, fresh cookies, a fruit, small candy bar, granola bar, condiments and a box of donuts. It only took a single day for boat captains to figure out that my group was staying at GBCI as they obviously covet the donuts.…
Husband and I stayed 4 days this week. We halibut and salmon fished 2 days and toured Glacier Bay one day too. Glacier Bay Country Inn is in a spectacular natural setting. Bears and wolves are frequently spotted behind the beautiful dining room overlooking a long meadow. We stayed in a small cozy cabin for two, and other guests stayed either in the main lodge or in other various sized cabins to accommodate different group sizes. The buildings and grounds are wonderful. This is an all inclusive lodge. All meals are provided and the food is wonderful. There are always 2 choices for 1st course and main course in the evenings after you come back from fishing or activities. You are provided delicious bag lunches for days away. The lodge is staffed with polite friendly young men and women who really take care of anything you may need. They drove us and picked us up, waited on us every meal and really added to an already wonderful experience. You will NOT be disappointed if you stay with Curtis at Glacier Bay Country Inn!!!…
I can’t recommend this enough. The friendliest and most helpful staff, outstanding meals, and amazing excursions! Also a great way to get away and unplug. The lodge and cabins are cozy, clean, and comfortable. We are already planning our next visit.
We stayed in one of the lodge rooms and could not be more thrilled with our stay! Curtis, his dad, and his staff are so friendly and welcoming. The meals were out of this world! Chef John’s pastries are to die for! Our room, the lodge, dining room, library, theater room, and fire pit gazebo were clean and very well kept. We had a wonderful time on our excursions and the scenery was second to none. We are already planning our return trip!
Incredible staff! Curtis does an amazing job running the lodge. He sets up all excursions for you and the cost includes all meals and transfers so you literally just arrive and relax-they handle everything! Coming back to the hot tub and fire pit at the end of every day is just wonderful, and the game room is so much fun! They’ve just renovated the dining room. It has amazing floor to ceiling windows overlooking the huge meadow where bears and moose walk nearly every day! They’re also adding a gorgeous fireplace to the dining room and porch out back overlooking the meadow! You’ll be so glad you chose Glacier Bay Country Inn!
