The Lodge was awesome, the rooms too. View absolutely amazing. The only - was the train at night. They were letting us known, when they passed, very loud. Smile. But, what can you do as hotel, simply nothing. We can just recommend this beauty.

We stayed in cabin #4 a 1 bed with 2 queens & futon. Beds, pillows & linens high quality and very comfortable. The cabin is spotless, kitchen well stocked with all supplies including paper towels, dish soap, coffee, sugar & creamer. Nice front porch with gas grill & seating. Full bath with plenty of towels, shampoo, conditioner & soap. Fly fishing clinics on site with 2 stocked ponds. So close to the West Glacier village & park entrance. We will definitely be back.

We stayed in the lodge. What a beautiful view we had from our room. We stayed on the 2nd floor in the lodge. The lodge was very clean. We didn't have maid service in our room every day, which was fine. They supplied trash barrels outside that we could bring our trash to and they supplied us with red bags to put any dirty towels in and leave outside your room, and they were replenished. It was peaceful and relaxing. We were visited every day by a deer, prairie dog and humming bird. Every. Single. Day. Which was very cool.

Listen folks! I normally don't take the time to write up reviews because normally it's a preference on how they feel at the time or some other motive. I'm writing my review totally based on my wife and I experience. We are outdoors type people but nothing like this with the wilderness, etc.LOL! When we first pulled into the 3-BR Homestead we're like ok just is something out of a movie we've seen before (btw we live in Dallas, TX) and normally its someone running for their life. The setup is is soooo freaking quiet/open range. Me and the wife we're not used to it since we live right outside of the city (plus we were the first to check in). Only thought racing through my mind was when it gets dark its just going to get much more scarier haha. As it turned out more folks started checking into their Cabins and we began to settle in after unpacking (4 nights stay). OMG! This is where the City Boy inside me started to enjoy what Mother Nature had to offer outside the City and what else was out there. What we thought originally was going to be some straight out of the movie "Texas Chainsaw" (me out running the wife) turned out to be a Tranquility Oasis away from everything. Wife even made a statement that she will never stay in a hotel again if all Homestead's are like this (seemed pretty serious about that statement). Cabin had everything, I really mean everything, that you can think of as if you were at home. Me and the wife used the grill/kitchen (saved a lot on eating out) and built a beginners fire in the pit while we danced around it. Our kids (both adults) made comments about their Mom's Face Book posting and us dancing around the fire pit that it couldn't have ended soon enough! Last thing or comment I like to say if you get a chance to stay here. Definitely reach out to my new friend for life (part owner) Tony. Not only did he serve our country (retired Air Force) but he was like coolest person I met on this trip between GNP/YWSTN/GTETON. Tony and his wife made us feel so at home in fact my wife said we acted like we knew each other from a previous life lol (being only 2 days apart on birth). Read a previous comment about some possible bed bugs. Whats funny is I saw the date of the post and we stayed right afterwards in the same 3-BR Homestead. Maybe a Texas thing because we didn't get a single bite but again (just saying) it is outdoors with mosquitos. So, we did have mosquito repellent and candle. Only negative I do have to say is that wish we had meet Tony and his wife sooner!

We were so lucky to get a reservation at the homestead lodge house. Our group of 10 didn’t fill up the house, there were several empty beds (very comfortable!). We were able to cook meals (huge fridge and separate freezer, two propane grills), eat together (multiple choices of tables inside and outside), and play yard games in the evenings (patio with picnic tables and small grass yard), which was wonderful. Tony was very nice and stopped by while checking on his horses the first night to show us how to turn on the outside lights and answer questions about the animals and where we could walk on the property.

The only small negative was the lack of air conditioning, but it was 95-100 the week we were visiting, which is unusual. It cooled off to 60 at night so we opened windows at night and shut everything during the day to try and keep it cool inside. I don’t think this would normally be a problem, and the basement stayed cool the whole time so there was a place for us to hang out when we needed a break from the heat.

We were more than a bit confused when pulling off the highway into what is an Outfitters/ gift store. At least the large sign said Paddle Ridge. After bypassing the store via the gravel road towards the cabins, we found what looked like an open air patio and building that said it was closed for a private event. So back down the hill we went. Asking at the store, we’re directed to a check in desk around a corner. Once arrived , checked in quickly. Asked about the bar and restaurant on premises ( “bar closed, open Tues-Sat?, restaurant mentioned in connection with the place is actually down the road). Picked up some snacks at the store and back up the hill we went to a newer collection of “lodge rooms “. Just rooms with a central hallway, but large, very clean, with a larger fridge and no coffeemaker ( but there is a coffee truck down the hill).
So this collection of rooms, cabins and event center is in a pretty place (albeit right off the highway and within earshot of an active train), but it has location and comfort. Would be great for a family or groups making day trips into GNP or doing the variety of rafting and fly fishing etc activities offered through the store front desk. Might be a bit less expensive ( and certainly more available) than the historic lodges in the park. Could fit more people in, and do a bit of cooking on your own. ( Kitchens in the cabins, a single outdoor grill at the “lodge” rooms).
What it has that the lodges inside the park don’t have: Modern decor, bigger beds, bigger rooms, AIR CONDITIONING, TV, tad bit less expensive ( and more varied) dining options, ability to make
semi -last minute reservations, Lodge rooms still conducted sounds from neighboring rooms, just not as loudly as the historic lodges in the park.

We rented out the entire property for my son's wedding and it was fantastic. The cabins and lodge were all very clean and had everything you needed to stay, including a washer and dryer in the deluxe cabins. The property is beautiful and well maintained, however you need a car to get up and down the hill if you are elderly or have limited mobility. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We completed a wonderful half day scenic boat ride with Bob as our guide. Bob was professional, knowledgeable, safety conscious, and very funny. It was an incredibly relaxing scenic boat ride - thank you for sharing your immense knowledge with us Bob! We also completed a half day white water rapids ride with Kirby as our guide. Like Bob, Kirby was incredibly knowledgeable, full of fun, safety conscious and just an all round nice person to have as our guide. The rapids were a whole lot of fun, and Kirby endured that we maxed the experience on the rapids and the river. Our only regret was that we didn't do the whole day raft - next time!!! We will definitely be back, even coming from Texas! The whole organization and set up is incredibly professional from check in, learning what to do, feeling safe, buying gorgeous apparel in the store (yes, they have fabulous stuff!). All the people working there appear to be well organized, profesional and knowledgeable. We Highly Recommended Glacier Raft Company, Montana.

The propane bottle valve for the grill was overtightened. The burners were wrapped in foil that floated when the burner was lit. There was no screen on one window. The coffee maker didn't work. The light over the stove didn't work. Bring ear plugs as the train whistles can be very annoying.

The cabins are about a kilometer south of the Amtrak station. If you have more luggage than a pack, that might be a problem. They might possibly pick you up if you request it. There is a car rental place in the gas station/diner across the road from the station.

Hidden Lake in Glacier National Park leaves from the Logan Pass Visitor center. You have to drive up going to the sun road or take the park bus, it us about 1/2 drive. Check with the park on the bus schedules

The lake is very long, but if you are asking about the Lake McDonald Lodge/village, that is on the east side of the lake and is roughly 15-20 miles away from Glacier Outdoor Center.
