Probably the worst hotel I’ve stayed at since 2014 at least. Stayed an extra night in NYC and decided to stay at The Brooklyn because it was less expensive, had 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor, and was near the subway line that I needed. The rooms are fine and the place has good bones, but the current management is not doing a good job. The 4.5 star average must be left over from a previous era. I wish I had looked at the more recent reviews before booking. Arrived at 1:00 PM and asked to drop my bag, which seemed like a hassle for everyone. Was told check-in was not until 3:00 PM, fine. Came back at 3:00 and the room was not ready until 4:30 PM. No apology from anyone working there. Was asked to wait with my bags in a dour, dark lounge area. One of the pieces of reading material was a fluid mechanics textbook from the 1980s. When I finally got to the room, there was a bag of trash lying directly on the floor in the hallway for several hours. The shower didn’t work well and the faucet and bathroom mirror were loose. The walls were thin and I could hear my neighbor sneezing all night (not her fault). Over the years, I’ve stayed at many different hotels in New York that cost $20-30/night more than this and had a great time. This place might have been an OK choice at one point, but it’s not being run well currently. Would not recommend The Brooklyn to anyone under its current management.

This hotel is awful. There is a train going by every 5 minutes by our room window. This is insane. The smell in this hotel is so wretched. Smells like someone smoked cigarettes and weed and then peed on the floor. Paper thin walls- the next door hotel room had people screaming until 2am. Literally the worst hotel experience of my life. Never staying here again.

We just checked out of two suite rooms. The building is in terrible shape- the sign going into the elevator warns that you travel at your own risk if more than 4 people enter or you jump. That should have been enough for us. The halls reeked of pot smoke- the room smelled like smoke. The phone was just filthy- broken bathroom fixtures. Worse, we were-three times- given keys that were to rooms already occupied. Very dangerous, very embarrassing. Further, there was no security lock on our suite when we finally got in. If is had not been so late, in a dangerous neighborhood, we would have left. After tax, our room was over 300 USD. Leave this one alone- a nice renovation of the rooms a few years ago has really gone down the drain.

Normally, I don't complain about anything online, but this place takes the cake. And NOT in a good way! I called to change my rez to eliminate our last night. Ryan at the hotel told me I had to do it through the site I booked it on. I wasn't able to do so because of technical difficulties (long story…). When we got to the hotel, I explained the problem to Ryan who assured me that it wasn't paid for yet and that I could use my receipt after we checked out and get the night eliminated thru the site and get my money back. This was just under $200! I asked him about it again when we checked out. He printed out a receipt and I stuck it in my bag as we were in a rush to get to the airport.. When I got home and unpacked I looked at it and it was ALL WRONG! I could see that he "mocked it up," using someone else's booking info (including their credit card, and different charges then we were charged) but with my name, address, etc. I finally got through to the site I booked thru and they said they had to call the hotel to confirm the refund? He did while I waited and was told that they had rejected it!!!!! I had NO recourse!!!! I called the hotel directly to talk to them. Ryan answered the phone and swiftly hung up on me when he realized who it was. I called back again was was promptly hung up on and then he just stopped answering the phone. I will NEVER go there again! The neighborhood was horrible and the room was fine but nothing to write home about. It was shabby, frayed carpeting, etc.

Where to start? Sketchy area, lots of garbage on the street just steps away from the front door. Indifferent staff. Many people just hanging out in the lobby, they were not hotel guests. The elevator always smelled of pot. Noise all night long. It must be party central. People/ guests coming and going loudly all night long. We had a room on the back side of the building and thought it may be quieter but many people hang out and play loud music from their cars at 3 am in the alley behind the building. No continental breakfast as advertised. I agree with another reviewer that I think they just don’t want to put any effort into this place.

The Brooklyn is in a great location and has some nice amenities. It just seems like it needs an investment in cleaning and updating things like the carpet and elevator. The rooms are nice with comfortable beds. It just comes across as a boutique hotel that has gotten a bit dowdy.

I stayed here because it was near a relative's apartment. I told the relative that the hotel is under new ownership and so many changes have been made. The web site is inaccurate: there is no gym and there is no breakfast. False advertisement right there. They say it is because of covid, but I think they just don't want to spend the $. The room is in disrepair. See the pic for the bathroom sink and the door lock. The closet has no hangers. the water puddles in the shower. The noise from the other rooms is quite loud (you can literally hear someone's conversation). The location, while convenient, doesn't feel safe. the security guard looks like he is asleep the entire time. The elevator was out, and I was assigned a room on the 4th floor. I hauled my suitcase up the stairs one step at a time. Given covid and how empty hotels generally are, I'd stay at another hotel where I could feel safer. A hotel under a national chain that might make an effort to keeping up a hotel room. oh... a side note: the coffee maker is a nespresso. we have no experience with that and there are no instructions anywhere. we tried to look up YouTube on how to run the thing, but it wasn't easy. How hard would it be to post instructions on how to use the darn thing? spend your hard earned $$ someplace else.

It pains me to give this place such a negative rating as we used to enjoy staying here. The clerk seems to be the only employee and sits behind bullet proof glass. There was a bum sleeping on the lobby couch and the entire place smells of Marijuana. The room was minimally furnished without even a chair for one of us to sit in, we had 1 glass for 2 people, 1 cup for coffee, etc. The elevator was broken so we had to haul suitcases down 4 flights of stairs. I know COVID was hard on the industry and do feel for them, but whomever owns this property either needs to invest or the property should close.

The entire hotel smelled of weed despite it being billed as a non smoking hotel. At 7:55am there was loud drilling noise coming through the walls as if a jackhammer were going off in the adjacent room (we were in 206). The room was not cleaned well and it had been neglected with stains and cigarette burns. We didn’t sleep well at all. Do not stay here.
