Created by Lyon Porter, the Urban Cowboy Bed & Breakfast is a place where guests arrive as strangers and leave as friends. It is a peaceful oasis in this urban jungle… yet steps to everything one wants out of Williamsburg. The Cowboy is the definition of a passion project. In an area starved for authentic short term housing options, we provide an opportunity to experience Living in a Modern Luxury Brooklyn Townhouse, with an Industrial Williamsburg/Adirondack/Cowboy Sensibility. There are 4 bedrooms in the freestanding townhouse, a cabin in the back yard with a hot tub and an open parlor floor that boasts operable garage doors on both ends, pot belly stoves, exposed joists and brick, wide plank rough hewn white pine floors…..and a lot more. The Cowboy is luxury with a local sensibility. In the morning, breakfast is delivered from our local hospitality partners, so one can decide between an almond chocolate croissant, biscuits and gravy, or keep it healthy and have an organic green juice. At night, guests can mingle with the native Brooklynites during the various dinner parties and events hosted by the owner. If one wants to venture out into the wild….Inn keeper Jersey Banks is happy to give suggestions or coordinate reservations for the guests, much like a concierge.

We stayed at the "Tree House" in Brooklyn its a sister property of the urban Cowboy. Its a cool place for sure, the layout is amazing, the decor everything about it looks wise is fantastic! The people are super nice and lovely! It was missing a few basic things like a clean bar of hand soap and kleenex. And it was very dirty/dusty. I would certainly try out some of their other properties!

I must preface this in saying that I did not stay here, and only saw the ground floor, back yard and cabin out back. What a unique space! I love the design and feel of the place. There are interesting nick knacks throughout, without being cluttered. The back yard patio is a relaxing area complete with jacuzzi. The cabin outback would be perfect for a peaceful weekend away from the kids, or a special weekend getaway. It's a short walk to the L train for those wishing to get to/from Manhattan.

Like most guests of the Urban Cowboy, I was drawn to the place by the many great reviews in architectural and design magazines. Don't worry - as far as design goes, the place will leave you in awe. Lyon Porter, mastermind of the Urban Cowboy, obviously has an eye for detail and has created an outstanding space that fits perfectly well in its urban surroundings. However, the place seems to function in terms of "form over function" - design is indeed everything. This manifests, for example, in a total lack of useful details like shelves, trash cans, etc - all left out, it seems, because they would disturb the general esthetics of the place. In the same way, the owners seem much more concerned with accommodating photo shootings and journalists than actual guests. Unfortunately, perfect styling does not result in anything resembling actual hospitality... I'd be surprised if they can keep the place up and running for more than a year or two. My recommendation: Swing by the place for a photo or two, or look at their Instagram. Then, book another room, in a hotel that's not quite as hip - chances are you'll feel just a little more welcome there...

What a chill concept!! Classy and refined, but low key and mellow.. Fantastic beds, cool staff and guests, eclectic nicknacks scattered about. Healthy and tasty breakfast items, great coffee, and we loved the double garage door idea in the living area….Thanx to all the ladies for a great little hideaway weekend in the 'burg !!!

I booked a room at Urban Cowboy as a special stay-cation surprise for my partner after stumbling upon a stunning photo of the place on Instagram. The photos absolutely do the place justice -- the interior design is lovely. However, our experience was very disappointing. The staff neglected to mention that a pop up dinner was being hosted in the lobby the night of our stay. So, when we arrived and there were 40 people in the main room of the b&b, I was a bit disappointed that I wasn't told this in advance, since it prohibited us from hanging out in the space. But the staff said there was a hard stop to the dinner at 10pm. We left for our own dinner and while out texted the staff asking if we could still use the jacuzzi when we came back. They said "absolutely, we close it at 12:00am, but you have to whisper--literally whisper." Yet when we came home at 10:45 and the party was still in full swing, and needless to say they weren't whispering. It continued until around 1am, and the noise was frustratingly loud from our room on the second floor. We were told breakfast would be served at 8am. We went down at 8:20 to find the place covered in dirty dishes, wine bottles, even peoples' shoes scattered around. The cleaning woman had just arrived and was clearly in shock by how much of a mess was left for her, apologizing for not having breakfast out yet and saying she just had to clear off the counters to find a place to put it. So we came back a little while later to find stale croissants--no option of biscuits and gravy or green juice as the website describes. While sitting at a table in the back garden eating breakfast, the cleaning woman actually encouraged us to take off the table cloth or eat inside, saying that she couldn't imagine eating in such a messy environment. I expressed my disappointment to the staff, saying we loved the charming decor and atmosphere but that we were disappointed with our experiences and the overall service. The staff member acknowledged that the place was exceedingly messy. When I mentioned the disappointing breakfast, she became defensive: "But I just got fresh ones yesterday!" Bakeries never sell day old pastries, so I'd expect the same service from a place where I'm paying $300 a night. Thankfully, they took $100 off of my bill. I'm grateful for the discount and wouldn't have written a negative review if the staff had been gracious in acknowledging that my dissatisfaction was valid, instead of being defensive. A genuine "We're really sorry" would have done the trick. The people running this business are clearly very talented at interior design, but really need to work on their service.
