My first experience occurred on January 14, 2012. My daughter held her wedding there and I stayed overnight in The Black Memorabilia Room. I loved the décor and the overall nostalgic feel of it. Four years later; just last week in fact, I returned there to celebrate with family for my daughter and son-in-law's first baby-shower. All of our party... More

My mother in law and father in law stayed in the Ashante suite for 6 days during their fourth trip to New York. My wife and I live in the neighborhood and we were delighted the Akwaaba could host our parents. It is a beautiful mansion and we enjoy walking by it on nearly a daily basis. It is a... More

I had a great time revisiting Brooklyn as a traveler rather than a resident. The Akwaaba makes you feel as though you are far from the hustle-bustle of city life and envelops you in historic majesty of the neighborhood. It was also very nice to be greeted by Sherri, the best hostess ever! I can't wait to visit the other... More

My husband and I opted to spend our 12th wedding anniversary (4 kids later) at this charming bed and breakfast. Although we lived in Harlem for years, we had never really done a staycation in this way. The house is beautiful and cozy. When you enter, you feel immediately like you have stepped back in time, the decor is seamless... More

Akwaaba was wonderful. The house is historic, room was great, and the energy of the home was splendid. The proprietors was kind, caring, and efficient. We made friends with the most wonderful couple from the UK during our stay. We had an early departure and the host prepared a to-go breakfast for us--the nicest touch. We highly recommend and will... We had a lovely two night stay in this beautiful home with all it's charm with each room having it's own style and decor. The suite we stayed in was spacious and we had all we needed to make our stay comfortable with coffee, free wifi and a fridge available. The host Monique and family were friendly and very helpful... Fantastic warm retreat in the heart of Bed-Stuy Brooklyn. Beautiful old restored home with 4 rooms and private baths. Service is especially good with very warm and friendly owner and innkeepers that elevate the stay from very nice to excellent. Breakfast is over the top good. Location is ideal located less than 5 minute walk from the Utica subway station... More

If you love historic architecture and design, a warm environment, a delicious home-cooked breakfast (and welcoming snack), and friendly, knowledgeable hosts, this is the place for you. One of the first and largest homes in this area (built around 1860, I believe), it sits in a neighborhood of lovely, well-maintained brownstones. And while it retains many of its original features... Monique makes you feel right at home and the location was perfect! I was close enough by to spend some quality time with my son who lives in a tiny studio not large enough for Mom! It was quiet with beautiful yard and the most lovely old large tree out my window. The breakfast was excellent and the company very... More

We spent one week at Akwaaba Mansion in Brooklyn and were cordially welcomed by Glen and his daughter Glyn. Very warm people who are obviously and justly proud of their mansion and go to great lenghts to make you feel at home. Glyn cooked a different and hearty breakfast every day and Glen informed us regularly on nice restaurants and... More
