Racial profiling. The hotel management sent the police to our room because they suspected my 47 year old long-time Filipino girlfriend was a prostitute or sex slave and potentially a minor. It took the police less than 4 minutes to determine that we are a committed bi-racial middle aged couple. She's an ad executive so no she didn't look like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. After the police left, I tried to complain to the hotel manager but he or she refused to speak with me. We then tried to leave the hotel for a concert but were accosted by an angry man who I believe is one of the owners as every employee deferred to him. He refused to identify himself. He then threw us out of the hotel for complaining about their racist, humiliating profiling. Imagine if any hotel or restaurant called the police because they suspected that your partner was a prostitute. Fight racial profiling and avoid this despicable place. Or stay there and support racism.

Loud drunken rooftop weddings/parties from 4pm-midnight, with loudly amplified live (bad, out of tune) bands. When I called down to the front desk (on my cellphone by the way, because there aren’t phones in your room), the clerk informed me that they would be stopping at midnight. I said, “It’s midnight now.” She said, “No, it’s 11:57. Would you like me to bring up some earplugs?” “For the next three minutes? No.” Apparently, they make more money from their loud, obnoxious weddings than they do from you, dear traveler. No elevators, three floors. No robes, motel quality towels. Noisy individual room AC units. Kitchenettes but no washer/dryers in rooms. Small disgusting laundry room - two machines, one machine moldy, broken. Laundry soap dispenser out of order. $2.00 wash/$1.00 dry per load. Bring quarters. The doormen/bellman are very helpful, housekeeping seems overworked but very accommodating, the front desk staff is friendly but I think they feel helpless to deal with the noisy roof parties and get irritated when you call down to ask about them. The saving grace: the beds are comfy, the bathrooms are clean and the decor is cute and trendy. My company put me here on a business trip, it’s not horrible enough to deal with packing and moving. But will I ever stay here again? No. Would I recommend this hotel to my friends? No.

We were traveling with a 10-month old. Very family friendly property. Stroller storage, pack & play and high chairs avail. You're 100 feet from GREAT coffee and 200 feet from a great corner grocery store with any kid related things you'll need. We used a 2-bedroom apartment with balcony. It was too hot to use the balcony but the apartment was great. Very spacious, not too much a baby could bang their head on. A/C was cranking. Singh the doorman was very helpful including finding us parking out front. This area of Greenpoint is safe (or feels safe) at night and there's lot of food/coffee options a short walking distance away. I was pleasantly surprised by how functional this property is.

Very nice hotel, friendly staff at the reception & bar . It was our first visit in the New York and after long journey when we arrived to the hotel we have been upgraded to the room with City view which was a nice surprise. The hotel is a bit walk from nearest subway station but the hotel offers complimentary taxi/ chauffeur service.

In town for a family wedding in late June 2022, The Box House had been highly recommended. We couldn't have been more pleased! Convenient to LGA, Manhattan, and all of NYC. Well maintained rooms and common areas. From Singh (the helpful, kind and courteous doorman) to everyone at the front desk, our stay was a complete pleasure from start to finish!

Disrespectful and expensive. I am a very frequent traveller who stays in hotels around the world. I have NEVER been treated so poorly. I stayed originally for 8 nights. This is the type of guest hotels need. Not one-nighters. It was a busy week in NYC and Brooklyn and rates were way higher than normal at every hotel. I checked in and went to my room and used the bathroom first thing. Toilet would not flush. OK. No biggie since I did not unpack a thing. Went to the front desk and they gave me a new room. Can't say I remember the first room since I was in there quickly. The second room was terrible. First thing was another trip to the bathroom. This time, a hair on the toilet grossed me out. Not a good start here but I was not moving again after 10 hours of flying. The room was a big dark, narrow cave with hardly any natural light. A couple small high windows and a skylight and that was it. DARK and depressing. Spend little time there except to sleep. My flight was cancelled and I had to extend a night rather than go through hassle of switching hotels. Went to front desk and price to extend (on a slow Sunday night) was also double online booking sites. They told me to book online and they would extend my room. The booking site upgraded me to balcony room. Probably because hotel was quieter on a Sunday night. In the morning I asked to keep my room, rather than switch for one night. They said not possible, I must switch. I have extended in hotels countless times over the years and never asked to move rooms. This place has great potential but people make the difference. I was treated wrong. NEVER AGAIN. And I am in Brooklyn at hotels all the time.

Had to book last minute and was thrilled to find this gem! Very quiet (at night--some sort of construction in the morning) and charming staff. Restaurant only open Thursday-Sunday which was fine as there are a lot of local options. Very nice, spacious room.

I was looking forward to staying here, I made the mistake of booking the wrong dates through Expedia. Once I realized my mistake I contacted Expedia and they allowed me to cancel without penalty. Unfortunately the Hotel had my credit card info and still charged me. The Hotel's website has a cancellation policy 48 hours prior to cancelation. The front desk agent told me Expedia's cancelation is 2 weeks! They are blaming Expedia for something they have control over. Do they not realize things can happen within 2 weeks. Once I contacted Expedia they said the Hotel is not refunding my money even though Expedia themselves allowed me to cancel. I would not trust them with your CC information.

We used to stay at the William Vale but a few year ago found our new BK home at the Box House. Rooms are spacious and everything you need such as shops, bars be and subway into Manhattan (1 stop on the 7 line) is in walking distance. Caitlyn was excellent on reception and very helpful and pleasant with any queries we had and offered many recommendations to us. As ever Dave behind the bar is an absolute gentleman and credit to the location. Hopefully back again next year. Thanks for having us Mark and Michelle

The Box House Hotel is a real Gem. During our extended stay, the staff went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our time there. The Front desk staff is exceptional, with special shout outs to Caitlyn and Brianna, always great, always helpful. The lobby pub, The Brooklyn Lantern is good for a beer, a burger or a story or two from Dave, who runs the place and keeps things lively. The rooms are nice and and the location feels safe, lots of good places to eat close by... we will be back!
