This was truly a southern experience in the heart of Brooklyn , New York. The room was spacious and well it and furnished with turn of the 20th century antiques. It was clean. The hostess /owner was accommodating and helpful. The breakfast was lively and yummy but a little disorganized, which added to the charm. There were too draw backs...

Black dress...white pearls...a warm smile-Debbie, charming and welcoming, is greeting us on the porch of that special 1880s brownstone, filled with memories and music. We knew right away that magic rules in this house even before we met Debbie, when we caught a glimpse of the musical instruments in the massive dark window. Away from glittering crowds and canyons of...

Wonderful experience at Sankofa Aban /Brownstone jazz The rooms are beautifully decorated, the beds are firm and the bedding is plush. They offer Real Deal classic jazz performances on Fridays and Saturdays with top notch musicians, cultural and historical points of interest and amazing music while the proprietor is downstairs frying fish, mixing cole- slaw and baking cornbread for the...

What can we say about Debbie, Eric and the Sankofa B&B other than "it was like staying with old friends...". The house, glorious, the food, glorious, the hosts, two wonderful, beautiful people who are happy to sit and chat for hours, the jazz and Miss B, beautiful. We were made to feel like we were their first ever guests we...

Please stay the fun loving people you are. I hope on your last night in NY that your continued honeymoon NYC trip had you feeling just as special once you checked into the Plaza Hotel. They made us love them too scooby doo, scooby doo. That's for being such gracious guests. Till next time

The owner wasn't there to greet us (only saw her twice very briefly). No breakfast (should remove the word breakfast from the title). Keurig was available with powdered creamer. Communal bathroom (EVERYONE used the same bathroom/shower, including the owner). Shower was more of a dribble than a spray. Received one bath towel at the beginning of our stay and had...

Recently I removed my first response to this review. Clearly I had written it in a defensive tone. My webpage designer warned me against ever answering reviews. He believes that the majority speaks louder. That people can draw their conclusion from what most write. I now totally agree with him. I went on and on and on in my earlier...

The Sankofa Aban is a beautiful brownstone on a tree-lined residential street in Bed-Stuy -- quiet but only a 5-minute walk to the subway (and about a 20-minute train ride into Manhattan). It's also only minutes away from many cool restaurants and bars, and a slightly longer walk to attractions like the Brooklyn Museum (mummies!). My husband and I stayed...

It is an absolute pleasure to read so many happy reviews. The reviews helps me to learn so much about what makes our guests comfortable and what doesn't. I need to let my guests know that they are just as amazing as they think we are. They must be or they wouldn't be so open to our very different style...

My wife and I had a thoroughly enjoyable time meeting people and enjoying great music each weekend night at Sankofa Aban. Our hostess, Debbie, and her partner, Eric (also the bass player) were engaging, knowledgeable Bed-Sty tour guides, always eager to help us get to know them, and the local culture. We plan to be back soon. Rooms were filled...

Why to stay: Comfortable and cozy. Debbie, the owner, is hugely friendly. The building is a historic brownstone that maintains its historic charm (NOT a euphemism for run down -- it's clean, has modern amenities, feels like a nice home). About a two minute walk from the subway, easy to find. On a residential street. Much of interest in Brooklyn...

This is a lovely old brownstown on a quiet street in Brooklyn. The house has been in the owner's family since the 1930s. Most of these kind of houses have seen unfortunate "improvements" over the years. This house is largely untouched, with all of the molding details and flourishes that characterized these great houses. Obviously, that comes with some compromises,...

My wife and I spent four nights at this Macon Street Bed and Breakfast, in the heart of Bed-Stuy. The owner and operator, Debby, could not have been more friendly or more chill. It was like staying in Brooklyn with the sister of a close friend. The house itself, a 19th century brownstone that has been in the owner's family...

“I took the Honeymoon Room which was the most costly, thinking we would have a private bathroom. Altho the bathroom was next door, it was on a shared basis. The juguzzi tub was just a shower in a tub. There were no juguzzi controls altho the vents were in the tub. The stairs are very creaky so you heard everyone coming and going.”
