We arrived just as the coronavirus was "landing" in the US. We were only supposed to stay for one night but ended up staying for two. We stayed in the "family room" in the Lodge. We LOVED the lodge - it felt like a really big house with lots of bedrooms! The breakfast room (and all the lodge rooms) have phenomenal views looking out huge windows. Breakfast was generous and delicious. The family that runs the lodge couldn't be nicer. Everything was clean and "homey". There are so many "relics" of the past and Alaskan items, you could spend hours just looking at all the "stuff." There is a guest fridge and microwave for your use. The yurt is very close to the lodge which is great during Northern Lights times. Even though we were getting fresh snow, the owner kept a path shoveled all the time. This is a great place to "base" out of for activities in Fairbanks. We absolutely loved this place and considered it our "home away from home." We would highly recommend it to everyone.

We stayed here in March 2021 and saw the most spectacular aurora borealis nearly every night. Kory and his family are terrific hosts and I would highly recommend this place to stay. The rooms are very comfortable, the included daily breakfast is satisfying and there is plenty to do during the day here and in Fairbanks, 15 minutes away. Their recommended dog sledding at Paws for Adventure on their own property was a real treat. While March nighttime temperatures are near zero F, their very spacious Aurora Point building on their own 280 acre property provides a cozy place to sit and wait for the aurora to "show up". Wine, coffee and cookies are on the house. Kory is a fund of infomation about the aurora and generous with help for novice photographers. We would stay warm inside the building and dart outside whenever there was an aurora sighting. Certainly a luxurious way to catch this spectacle.

We just felt so comfortable from the first minute of walking in. The view from the huge windows in the family/dining room kept drawing my attention. The constantly changing light was fascinating. We were in room 4, and were very cozy, and felt like we were the only ones there. Bring your own slippers for that feel right at home sense, after you leave your boots in the front hall.

Room tip - stay in the main lodge during winter, so you don't have to venture out in the cold first thing in the morning for breakfast, from a cabin.

Kory has very wisely lined up with Paws for Adventure, making it very easy to go on a dog sledding trip. They head out just about a mile away from the lodge. His Aurora Pointe business for aurora viewing is top notch! It's about 0.5 miles away as the crow flies. As a lodge guest, you are welcome to take advantage of the amenities there (inside warmth, hot chocolate, coffee, fresh baked cookies from Debbie and a big screen allowing you to see when the aurora becomes active, so can stay warm until bolting for the show outside).

The breakfast served is fresh and fantastic, and quite filling, as well as nicely scheduled at 0900, for all the night owls who were aurora chasing. They offer snowshoes for you to explore the many acres of land surrounding the lodge. It's about 20 minutes or so to drive into town for dinner and check out other activities around.

Yes, it's pricey, but so worth it for the convenience if you're into the aurora.

We cannot say enough good things about A Taste of Alaska Lodge. Going on our first trip to Alaska, we were a little nervous to be so far from home, but as soon as we walked into the lodge we were welcomed in and felt right at home. We stayed in the main lodge where each room has its own private entrance through doors that look out over the amazing fields, flats, and mountains of Alaska. The rooms were warm and cozy even when it was -20 outside with comfortable beds and amazing antiques. Breakfast every morning was delicious with blueberry pancakes, eggs, bacon, and more. Each morning Lily and Debbie provided great tips and recommendations for our day ahead tailored to our interests. Kory taught use how to build a snow hut on a snowy day and Dave ran a snow mobile along all their paths so we could use the snow shoes they have available to explore their amazing land. An added bonus was the owner's Aurora viewing lodge called Aurora Pointe were we could warm up with refreshments and games in between stepping right outside to view the lights. You can also view the lights right from the lodge doors. The lodge and Aurora pointe are probably the best place to view the lights within 30 minutes of downtown Fairbanks. Kory (the owner) also gives lodge guests a call to let you know when they are out as well! The locations is so close to town it was easy to dip in and out for food and adventures while also providing enough distance for an escape and dark skies perfect for aurora viewing. 10/10 for food, rooms, adventures on the property, and true kindness from the owners. We will be recommending them to all our family and friends and hope to be lucky enough to go back some day. Great for anything from relaxing to adventure, there isn't a better place to stay.

A Taste of Alaska is exactly that! Great experience. We had a large group, with rooms and a cabin. It worked out perfectly for us. The cabin provided the kitchen for our meals when eating in, with breakfast provided by the lodge. Mornings after being up late into the night watching the awesome Borealis with the country breakfast and good hot coffee were VERY welcome! They prepared a meal with local ingredients as well for one of our nights, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Kory and Debbie were so welcoming, relaxed and funny! They had many helpful suggestions for excursions, and anything we needed. We were able to come and go as we wanted without any worries to chase the lights. We had our own beds, good hot water, warm comfortable beds. The log lodge is pretty cool, in a great location away from Fairbanks with great visibility for the northern skies. Beautiful sunrises from the lodge and a resident moose with her young one.

I would definitely stay again without question!

Stayed there two nights in early August in a cabin. The cabin was modern, well maintained and very clean. The place we previously stayed at in Fairbanks was no longer available so searched for a place that would provide a good feel of Alaska, but be very comfortable. Cabin had a kitchen, but breakfast was provided daily at the Lodge and highly recommend that opportunity for good food and an opportunity to visit with the manager about places to see and things to do in the area.
The cabin had a spiral staircase to the loft and the bathroom was on the main floor so mobility would be important for whoever is staying in the loft.

Gloria, Thank you for staying with us. I’m glad you enjoyed my old bachelor pad the Spruce House! Yes the spiral can be precarious if anyone has mobility issues. On the first floor there is a King bed a twin and the bathroom so guests can skip the spiral.

We loved staying at this place. From the delicious home cooked meals, to the funny stories that Debbie told, we were made to feel like part of the family. And Debbie and Kory both went the extra mile to make sure we had a memorable experience. And when the Aurora Borealis showed up, it was spectacular! We were even treated to a rare view of Mt. Denali. This was a bucket list trip and it did not disappoint!

We ended up at A Taste of Alaska after our previously booked location was inappropriate. We (two older couples) arrived really late and stressed, but Kent warmly welcomed us and immediately put us at ease. The rooms are cute and comfy, the setting is beautiful and the breakfasts are huge and yummy, but what makes this place special are the people…Kori, Debbie and Kent are great to talk to and will do anything to help you. A Taste of Alaska is a gem…totally made our Alaska trip special!

We had an exceptional stay at the Taste of Alaska Lodge last week. We were part of a tour with Gondwana Eco Tours (highly recommended) and enjoyed a 6-night stay at the lodge. The lodge is family owned and you can tell they put their heart into the business. They also have a great sense of humor and are very knowledgeable. The viewing cabin and alarm system in the rooms for viewing the Northern Lights were perfect. We were there during an extreme cold snap in the -40s and we still enjoyed every bit of our trip.

We were fortunate enough to see the lights, but I would recommend this lodge even if seeing them is not important to you. Beautiful area for hiking, snow shoeing and just enjoying nature. I wish I could go back this summer.

The pics were taken from the viewing area directly behind the lodge.

If you are looking for a cookie-cutter hotel, this ain't it. The lodge is an experience where you meet fellow travelers over eggs and bacon in the morning while catching a glimpse of alpenglow on Denali through the lodge windows. You can finish up your coffee wandering around the spaces brimming with lovingly curated collections of objects that all have a story - just ask Debbie, one of your hosts. The owners/hosts are generous with their time and accommodating to guest needs (let me borrow some hiking poles for a day trip). Each room is equipted with an Aurora alarm to let you know when the lights are out, but I'd highly recommend joining Kory down at Aurora Pointe (a short 1 mile drive) for an Aurora watch with warm beverages, Debbie's homemade cookies, photos, and a fun/informative talk about the Aurora. It was a highlight of my trip. All this and clean, safe for a solo female traveler. Highly recommend!

We don’t advertise a wake up call, but during Aurora season we have our sister company operating tours almost every night. The tour guides at Aurora Pointe will ring a door bell alarm in every room at the Lodge to notify guests. This can be handy, but I always recommend using the Aurora notification as a secondary system. If you really want to see the lights stay awake actively looking from 10pm-2am. Kory

The Spruce House is about 300 ft from the Main Lodge and has its own parking area. One note is the Spruce House has a driveway that needs and AWD car to access it in the Winter. If you have a 2WD the Main Lodge Parking lot is available.

I believe there are kitchens to the little cabins that are separated from the main home. If you stay in the main home, all you have is a room and bathroom. I hope this helps.

Yes you may. Each private outbuilding is about 300ft (100meters) away from the main lodge. In front of the main lodge (about 30 steps) there is an Aurora viewing area with chairs. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Kory
