We booked 3 excursions through Chandalar Ranch on the same day. Our first stop was dogsledding. The gentleman who took us on the excursion was very nice, but it was rather short, about 30 minutes. The next stop was to the Chena hot springs which was a 45 minute ride away. We were driven an older gentleman, he was very...

A great place to view the auroras, especially when it was overcast in the city. George also clicked few pics of us with the auroras! Good transportation facilities & ambiance.. it was a wonderful experience!

The owner of this ranch, Maggie, obviously cares nothing but money. This place was overbooked. There were two shuttles already there when we got drop off at 10.30 pm. When I said drop off, literally meant dropping off. There were no instructions. Maggie used her phone at all times. The rest of the staff were either talking among themselves or...

Management response:

I’m not sure where this animosity comes from. We are one of the oldest aurora viewing spots in Alaska, and have been hosting guests since 1967. This is also the only Aurora viewing place run by Native Alaskans. I am Siberian Yupik Eskimo, and I’m proud and happy to share my culture with visitors. For me, travelling is about meeting...

There were two roads that could arrive Chandalar Ranch. At first we chose the branch on Chena Hot Spring road. We found it a disaster for us because our car could not get on the hill and got stuck in snow. The house owners were really nice. An elderly lady borrowed us a shovel to get rid of the snow....

Really terrible attitude. We'd rather throw our money into sky than giving to the host of this ranch. No service and no welcome. Just need the customer to show their money. The view is also not that good.

The location is about 40 minutes from Fairbanks. We were brought here by Alaska Northern Lights. The lodge is also a youth hostel so others were also there but it wasn't too crowded. We had a great night with clear skies, a light breeze, and a FABULOUS aurora show complete with dancing lights and multi colors. We also met some...

we weren't nickel and dimed! My husband, my teenage son, and I booked an ice fishing trip, dinner, and aurora viewing! As a package option, you are allowed to rent a parka, bib, and shoes for the day. The ice fishing was pleasant, with George, one of the owners drilling holes, and making sure everyone was catching trout. When we...

We came upon this place because of its reviews. Not after taking another look AFTER our own experience with this place, we noticed that the raving reviews were all written years ago. Please read the most updated reviews guys. We learned our lesson. Just like many of you, we came here hoping to see the aurora. As advertised on their...

I went there to see the northern lights with my friends. The stuffs were very unfriendly. They only want the money from you and never to give a smiling face and even don't want to talk to you. You can go to many places like Chena hot springs or any dark place to see the northern lights. Just don't go...

Chandalar Ranch is great for aurora viewing, the view is not obstructed, and you can see aurora from a wide angle. However, their staff was very rude when we joined their organized trip to ice fishing and dog sledding. During the ice fishing trip, they did not tell us which lake we were heading to, leaving us wondering during the...
