This is a B&B associated with the Richard Johnston Inn down the street. There are 3 rooms here to stay in; I recommend getting the big room, that has a huge seating area. There are so many cool antiques, I really enjoyed the eclectic decor here. The bed is comfortable and there is a large bathtub. Sometimes breakfast is served at this location, but if there aren't many guests they'll have you walk down to get breakfast at the Richard Johnston. The food was fantastic as was the stay, and all of the staff is very nice. It's pricy but worth it.
We recently stayed at the 1890 Caroline House in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It is probably the most beautiful Inn we have ever stayed at! The common rooms are beautifully decorated and our guestroom was perfect. Nothing was overlooked to provide the most comfortable stay. The breakfasts were delicious and filling. We will definitely be returning for another wonderful stay at the 1890 Caroline house!
We were a little disappointed in our stay - maybe our expectations were too high. The first morning's breakfast was scrumptious - French toast with bananas, pecans, whipped cream, and bourbon syrup. And the afternoon treat was some chocolate peanut butter cookies which were good. We did enjoy the 2 sided fireplace in the William Riley suite immensely which operated with the flip of a switch. The street traffic noise was a bit loud for us, the second day's afternoon treat was the same cookies from the day before, and the last day we had exactly 4 small oatmeal cookies for the 2 of us. We had to leave before breakfast which was a huge disappointment missing breakfast so they put out 2 muffins and the same fruit and yogurt we had all 3 mornings. We had difficulty making the DVD player work and called and left a message, but no one ever acknowledged our call. Thankfully my husband was able to figure it out. The toilet paper was single ply which is really not satisfactory for an expensive place. All in all it was a nice stay and I'm not trying to be hurtful but these things were kind of important to us and thought they might matter to someone else.…
We had an amazing and relaxing stay at the Caroline House! The Inn was comforable and very inviting (I wish I could take that kitchen back to my home :))The breakfast(s) were delicious and filling. We stayed in the Luke Henry room which was generously spacious, extremely clean and pleasantly quiet. The Inn is near a vibrant collection of shops and restaurants, all walkable. We parked our car upon arrival and did not use until we had to leave! This city is full of history and offers an array of activities for everyone. We cannot wait to come back and stay at the 1890 Caroline House again!
Spent 2 nights in the big suite and really loved everything about this place. The staff was amazing and provided a special touch to our stay. Home baked snacks at the end of the day was a special touch. The rooms were very posh. The breakfast was out of this world. Highly recommend this great B&B.
