The rating of excellent is based on the amazing staff. From Astrid who answered all my questions on the phone, Dia, the night innkeeper who gave me the key and welcomed me past the check in time. Tim, who oversaw breakfast and made sure that the serving plates were full. Amazing Claudine - went above and beyond - going across the street to provide my family with wine glasses for our private dinner in the Bertamn Inn's garden room, giving my dog an extra welcome box with more dog biscuits, provided a water bowl for my dog and providing extra towels and checking to make sure everything was okay! Breakfast is served in the lounge on the first floor and if you have a pet you can sit with your pet in their enclosed garden room which is off of the lounge. Food is a large offering including a hot dish - french toast or eggs - beautiful fruit salad, choice of cereals, breads, yummy baked goods, variety of coffees and teas and juices and milk. In fact the dried food and baked goods along with water (hot and cold) and coffee and tea are available around the clock! Rooms: Historic inn with historic furniture and design. Shower was strong and plenty of hot water. Older style bathroom but extremely functional. Parking -No issues with parking - they have their own lot behind their house off of St. Paul's street. You must tell them in advance that you have a car so they can advise you where to park and give you a parking ID. The other options are at their sister property across the street. I was also told that if worse came to worse, we could park on the street overnight and the Bertram Inn would pay for the ticket. Parking is an additional $20 per night. Only challenge was that our room on the first floor was not as warm as we would have liked. I did not want to bother the innkeeper in the middle of the night. We stayed for two nights and it was fine, I just did not know how to access the control for the heat in our room. Pet Friendly - call in advance to tell them you have a pet. They prefer that you do not leave your dog alone in the room, but if you do, to please have them crated. A welcome doggy box is given to each pet guest that included dog biscuits, a roll of poop bags and a guide to local dog friendly parks, vets and pet stores!

This place has a lovely, quirky charm, from the myriad staff members chaotically running about, to the old world atmosphere of the lounge and rooms. Everyone was very welcoming and the room I stayed in was very pleasant with an excellent bed. As long as you don't have a room on noisy St. Paul street I would recommend this place highly. The homemade breakfast spread was delicious (though very high in fat and sugar content!) It's a unique and charming place with offering very warm hospitality. (btw I mean Fawlty Towers as a compliment!)

We opted for the inn since they are pet friendly and enjoyed the experience. This 1906 residence was renovated and kept much of the period detail. Our room was quite large and had a canopied king bed. The cast iron radiators were incredibly ornate. The inn is on a quiet street in Brookline and dog friendly parks are nearby. The breakfast was tasty and snacks were around the clock. The common areas were comfortable. The manager was friendly and helpful. Parking was an additional $20 and was just across the street. The is no overnight street parking in the area.

A lovely, homely place full of character. Stayed in a nice room with a four poster bed and all the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Conveniently located for the tram making getting downtown and to tourist attractions easy. Breakfast is all home made and delicious with free snacks and tea / coffee all day. Alejandro was especially helpful in suggesing things to do and made two great restaurant recommendations, Barcelona and Shaking Crab. I would strongly recommend the Bertram Inn for a Boston visit even though the location is a little out of town.
